- Creating Strong Lines Using Colour Pencils
This video shows one of my favourite colored pencil art techniques- creating artwork with strong lines. This is an amazing techniques to create expressive and artistic drawings, which can be really useful for art beginners. The video provides six easy steps for you to draw using coloured pencils.
Step 1: Draw initial shapes using 'soft' lines
Step 2: Use strong curvy lines to improve the lines
Step 3: Apply shapes using the same colour
Step 4: Change colours
Step 5: Strengthen lines using a contrasting colour
Step 6: Apply a ‘soft background
You can greatly improve your sketches using this technique.

Chamil your bold and strong lined portrait of a shoe in colored pencil is stunning! I love this style you have created. Really beautiful and powerful.
Thank you so much, Dena. I really appreciate the comment. This is one of my favourite approaches. Thought I should share it 🙂
Thanks for breaking this down into steps. So fresh and inspiring. I love your channel because you are different from the rest.
Thank you so much for the comment. I really appreciate it. I've never had formal any training in art. May be that's why my work is different 😊
@kaliopinikitas5821 Just wanted to tag you in this week's video :)
Thanks for tagging me, Chamil! Great video and love your strong lines! I'll be trying this out later today. Love the final touch of the soft background. Perfect!
Very nice work. May I ask, why do you use Derwent inktense pencils for this kind of work? They are water-soluble ink pencils. Have you tried Derwent procolor or Lightfast, or Caran D'Ache Pablo or Luminance pencils f ex.?
Yes, I used Derwent Inktense pencils for this. I like them because we can create really dark values using Derwent Inktense pencils. Never used procolor, light fast or Caren D'Ache 🙂. What would you recommend for creating dark values?
@@chamilrathnayake dark indigo from either Derwent Lightfast or my favorite Caran D'Ache Luminece. You can bye it separately and try out. Wax/oil based
If you happen to drop water on inktence, they will bleed as watercolour.
I realised that by accident actually :) @@hannemarielorenzen3428
Thank you so much. I'll definitely try. I use only a few colours. So, it is great I can buy them separately.@@hannemarielorenzen3428
