Ray is an inspiration.
He is indeed inspirational, I just wish he'd update his presentations. I'm guessing he must not be able to talk too much about what he does at Google as he must be involved with some very interesting stuff (unless his job is focused almost entirely on promotion, in which case what a waste) as he gives almost the exact same talk in every presentation I can find of him. If you've read his books and/or seen more than one of his other presentations you probably didn't pick up anything new from this one, and at this point I probably could have stood up there and given the talk for him with just an index card of the talking points he wanted covered. I feel like a sad prospector sifting through kilo-liters of water for a few flakes of new information. That said, I still love Ray and can't wait for his new book.
This seemed to me to be quite different than other talks he's given. He went into more historical details about his origins (and those of his teachers and contemporaries) and spoke less about exponential doublings, etc. (Not that refreshers about the rate of technological progress aren't appreciated -- by me, anyway!)

what is the mathematical problem ray talk about for deeper neural network (more than 4 layer Perceptrons) that solved?
I have come to the conclusion that people just don’t get this..... I’m what you would call, “far right”. And you bring up some interesting issues that nobody wants to even begin to dispute!!! Because I have thrown some stuff out there among my peers and everyone clams up!!!! The left, the right, it doesn’t matter!!!! And I know most people here are leaning left. Personally I feel we need to transcend the right and left thing. We know where we are going and if we don’t decide, then we get left behind!!!! It’s that simple. I would like to see people realize this future. It’s almost like they just don’t get it. Or are they in denial? Either way, thank you for putting these videos out!!!!

I've watched most of his videos his speeches interviews etc are the same.
sadly i have to agree with you. i like the guy a lot, but all the speeches are the same. Nothing new. But i hope for the best in the future

Aron Carvajal of course, but the fact is that with computing technology the predictions are much more accurate. But they are still only predictions

I ask myself : can't we make variations of the same picture to have more data ? You make for example 10 variations for each picture (cut, zoom, change colors and angles...) and then you don't need 1 billion but "only" 100 million pictures.
Easy to do it. Lot of libs doing it.

In 1976 when I was three, there was an old typewriter in my grandfather's burn pile, with a dollhouse rocking chair stuck in the keys, I wanted it! I grabbed it with my little hands and yanked! Pop! A spring was holding it. The spring stretched and broke. The spring shot forward and ripped into my little index finger. It entered the top and wrapped around the bone up to third knuckle. Ouch. My uncle came running up and retrieved a pair of wire cutters. My mother and grandmother grabbed me up and rushed me to the hospital. I had six inches or so of spring sticking out the end of my little finger. No pain, just a bouncing slinky hanging out of my hand. I remember telling my grandmother that I would be brave. I was, until i saw the six million dollar man strapboard. With straps. They were gonna strap me in. I still remember the nurses name. It was lois. Blah blah my story is still better than this
The stories of people far away of talking about this AI Stu are the best to hear..Hearing about this is so boring..Like they believe fully in humanity needing to be completely guided by a robot father they created!
Some bold claims about cognitive neuroscience.
Bold claims about the structure of the brain. He claims that most of the cortex follows a connectionist pattern. I am not sure cognitive neuroscience agrees with that. Anyway, after an evolutionist hype in the 90s and early 2000s, connectionism came back and is very fashionable these days.
with all the scandals in hollywood right now, i dont think its a good idea for this guy to admit to touching Future.
It’s a big idea, a new world order……..sorry Mr I have no intention of being enslaved by AI, I’m not a serf class.
