  • This aria is from Act 2 of Gioachino Rossini's comic opera The Barber of Seville (Il Barbiere di Siviglia) and happens just before the finale. Count Almaviva tells his opponent Doctor Bartolo to give up 00:01 and realize that his greedy wrath will not TRIONFERAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAA 1:35, then he assures his bride that she will now have a happier life 2:28, and finally he has a moment of quiet self reflection 4:51 in which AAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAA 7:27 DELLA MIA FELICITA FELICITAAAAAA AAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAA 7:43
This aria is notoriously difficult. The thing is, the first 2/3rds are not really that hard in a technical sense, but this aria is eight and a half minutes long and if you're not careful those easier earlier passages will have you wiped out by the time the very difficult final third of the aria even begins. Another insidious element of this song is that if you practice the sections in isolation, you won't have the level of exhaustion you'll actually have when you arrive, so your carefully planned breaths may turn out to be impossible during a full performance. If you aren't visibly suffering at the end of your aria, you didn't sing Cessa di più Resistere.
The audio you hear is my vocal performance as it was when I was recording the video -- this is what you'd get if I sang this for you in person. If you want a nicer-sounding version you can check out • Cessa di più Resistere... , in which I dubbed over my mistakes after the video was recorded 😅
I am an amateur with no training and sing just for fun; this video is part of my project to sing all of The Barber of Seville by myself; you can check out the rest here: • The Barber of Seville
