I am picking up my new AD60 on Friday. It will be my first guitar and it was highly recommended by the sales person at Guitar Center. I can’t wait !

I have an RD8 that I inherited from my Aunt in 2019, it went untouched, Retaining Near Perfect Condition. it even had the tags wrapped around the tuning pegs and the Original Strings on it when I sadly and carefully wrapped my arms around it , the first time I got to fully inspect and touched my hands to feel the textures of it. My Aunt was trying to teach me how to play guitar from across the country, but about a year or so later the lessons came less often than usual and a year later she was terminally ill. This was a purchase she made for herself and her joy of playing music on the instruments. I knew I’d be taking care to preserve it and I would be doing some updates with intentions to make sure I learned how to play it and finally could put music to the years of songs that I’ve written. It’s been updated and cleaned correctly, despite my efforts…the ability to retain the necessary information somehow eludes me. So I keep it safely displayed in the proper environment and format. ❤ My only Nephew is learning to play and really enjoys it. So I’m trying to learn as much as I Can about the RD8, while observing his progress and contemplating passing it down to the next generation. I’ll want to give him the knowledge of the Guitar’s Make and model as well as it’s history, should I chose to give it to him…. I don’t know yet, but I’m sure hoping for a lifelong love and passion for playing the guitar is developing swiftly within him. I’ll keep admiring it as it’s hanging and thinking of my amazing Aunt who passed it on to me ❤ all information is greatly appreciated!

Same here!! My grandma gave me this guitar and I went to a shop to get the strings replaced (since it’s old of course)
They told me to toss this one and buy a better instead and I honestly felt sad. It has sentimental value and I just need to fix the action & bridge and that’s all.

@@Aaron-kp6kp What shape is it in if you don’t mind me asking? I know very little about the make and model, most other things like when manufacturing began and ended, when these peaked in their sales, etc. If it’s of any help, I DID fix the action, replaced the bridge, bridge pegs, and strings, and I did a careful restorative cleaning to all of the woods, including the fret board and I’m telling you this looks BRAND NEW and SOUNDS great, I’d be happy to offer any helpful information or advice. *please know that I had no prior knowledge or experience in doing anything like or close to all that I mentioned. Through some helpful tips from my friend in the music world and some self taught education as well, I’m confident that I can at the very least get a grasp on what’s the potential outcomes depending on what you’re willing to commit in time… not really costly and I split it up into a few weekends. And if you’re really serious, I bought triple the parts when I was doing these things so I could definitely get you at least some, if not all of the things needed to be replaced and repaired…..lemme know

      It’s in very good shape
      Nothing damage and no scratches
There is glue at the bottom where the straps but it’s not a big deal. How much did you pay to get it replaced?

I've had my AD60 for about 8-9 years and it's by far my favorite guitar I own. The sound, feel and overall construction are amazing. For about $400 you get a guitar that competes with Martin and Taylor at a much lower price point. Go get yourself one and see!!

Thinking of getting the AD60 on sale in UK for £269 as my second guitar. My first was a much cheaper electro-acoustic Fender (all laminate). Edit: just got my ad60 from Andertons UK and I'm blown away by the quality, sound and looks. Very happy with my choice

I recently purchased the RD26CESB acoustic guitar and I am very satisfied. It is a very well finished instrument for the price and the sound is spectacular.

Bought a late-2020 model AD60L back in March of last year (similar 12th-fret inlay as the one featured in the upload above, but with the "prototype" MST1 bracing instead of the current FS6). It's the second acoustic guitar I've picked up so far (Yamaha FG820L was my first), but clearly the one I keep going to the most as of today. Noticeably deeper body, slightly larger nut width (1 3/4" to Yamaha's standard 1 11/16"), MUST-HAVE 2nd strap button at the base of the neck, genuine bone nut/saddle (total game-changer right there), and the fact that it sounds AT LEAST as good as my FG820L at about $40 less than what I paid for the latter at the time were the main reasons why. Solid bookmatched Sitka spruce top on my AD60L not only has an extremely tight and near-perfect straight-grain pattern running throughout, but unlike the one on my FG820L it also features one of the most exquisite silking patterns I've ever seen ! No doubt Alvarez fully backs their claim in hand-selecting and grading their tonewood tops independently of their own supplier(s). Even in their Chinese factory where their standard "non-Yairi" guitars are made, they simply refuse to skimp on quality and it shows.
Still blows my mind that one can honestly afford a guitar built on THAT scale in this day and age, but "outside-the-box" types like Alvarez sure as heck found a way (lol). Now there's no excuse not to find a decent guitar that successfully caters to your current budget anymore!

I decided I would restring my AD30 I bought recently and removed the strings and made sure the neck was dead straight and checked the frets with a fret rocker. I was surprised how high some frets were but as the guitar had a high action I didn’t have any fret buzz.
Obviously frets don’t get levelled in the factory???
I levelled the frets and recrowned and polished them. I then oiled the fingerboard and lowered the saddle by a couple of mm’s on the treble side and restrung with Martin 80/20 12’s strings and also fitted bone saddle pins. It sounds really bright and full of life which I know 80/20 does and they lose that super brightness and mellow down after a couple of weeks which I prefer.

Just ordered my AD 60 what an amazing sounding guitar! And that low end base!! How did you make mahogany sound that low end base?

  • @kevincozens6837

When I wanted to get back in to playing guitar my local music store had very few left-handed instruments and most could be ordered but weren't in stock. I didn't get the cheapest instrument as I wanted one of decent quality that would last but didn't want to spend a ton as I wasn't sure how much I would be using it. What I read about the Alvarez RD26L said it was a good beginner guitar. I took a chance on it and wasn't disappointed. The only thing I've done was modifying the saddle to lower the action to a little less than half what it was OOB.

I sometimes wonder if you have to have a trained ear to hear the difference between these guitars and their expensive cousins. My MF60OM sounds as good as any Martin 000 18 I have heard. I've owned many guitars over the years, including a Gibson J200 and J 15 but that OM, my AGE95CESHB ( second hand £255) and the amazing little Delta00TSB are my favourites . Extraordinary value. Congratulations.

I have been very impressed with the Alvarez guitars and I've been trying to decide, quite literally, between the AF60SHB and the AP66SHB, so this was a great video. I think the obvious answer is that I should get both. 😁 Although if I can swing it the MF60OM is on the radar.

I have a AP66SHB that I'm happy with. I like 12 fret parlors and I love the classic slotted headstock, which is a hard-to-find combination- Would like to have some advices on strings though... Love your shows, but its a bit hard for me as a no-native english speaker to follow your chit-chats. Maybe you could slow down a bit,,,??

Your problem is probably caused by the guy on the right who has a “Geordi “ accent. The accent comes from north east England and can be difficult even for other English people.

Could someone answer a question for me about the construction of the neck joints in the Masterworks line? I'm trying to find out what kind of glue is used there. It's been mentioned that epoxy is used but I was under the impression that basic guitar wood glues, like hide glue or even something like Titebond was used.
Could you please clear this up for us. I am huge fan of your products and have my own MD60HD.

It's not always about price. Yes more money will buy you better woods. But for the budget conscious consumer like myself, I want something good that isn't going to put me in hock. So it comes down to sound, playability, comfort, and looks. If you're happy with your choice, then who the hell cares what other people say. I'll put my AG60 Alvarez against any Martin model below D-18 and smoke them! HPL and Micarta? Are you kidding me? Hell, my Alvarez RD20 a/e will smoke them evenly. Like I said before, yinz guys build them right! Thx again for the informative videos and the great guitars!
