- This week with a demonstration on the 'Arpanoid' by EarthQuaker Devices and an improvisation over the music track 'Subliminal Influence' by Palmerlake (Weymouth, UK), from his EP 'Sōlus'. / palmerlake
To take part in this project, comment or send me your suggestions for an improvisation. This can be:
a) a word or sentence
b) a photo, a drawing/sketch or painting of yours
c) a recording of you playing your instrument
d) a video of you playing your instrument
I choose one suggestions every week to play an improvisation in the end of the video.

Always keep it on, run it through an effects loop with a quiet switch to turn on and off
Hey I recommend replacing the switch with a Soft touch switch, that will eliminate the click. It is a easy swap, and all you need is a Soldering Iron. If you don't fancy doing the swap your self it shouldn't be to hard to find a friend who has soldered before either. Good luck!

Martin Diesendorf Why not a noise gate, designed to remove the noise from your signal chain without affecting the tone. Tour pedal keep the specs intact together with its warranty. Cheers!
Ich würde das Pedal umbauen. Der Knopf ist so richtig traditionell für Gitarrenpedale :-) Man könnte ihn mit einer Klinkenbuchse ersetzten und per Kabel mit einem externen Fußschalter (die von Boss sind ganz ok) ersetzen. So kannst Du das Teil auf dem Tisch stehen lassen und es mit dem Fuß bedienen.

Hmm... No expert on theremin pedals but one idea to mask that clicking pop when you turn it on is to put another cheap volume or tuner pedal in line before amplification to cut out the signal temporarily. I'm liking the channel.

Hi Carolina, completely in love with your works! Marvelous! Now here's my recommendation since I've been playing and listening to lots of Tárrega's works lately, and, I'd actually love to hear (if possible) your performance of one of his works. "Estudio en Mi menor" would sound intensely emotional.
Great stuff. I love watching people that really know how to play it. I have a theremin that I use to augment some mostly acoustic guitar based compositions. I've used harmonizing pedals, shimmer type reverb pedals and a synth bass pedal with great results. I've also used an older Antares Autotune rack unit to "cheat"... :) You've got another fan... cheers !

Awesome stuff! I'm sure the EQD people would do you a soft switch Arp or you could use a Boss LS-2 to silently click in the effect when you need it.

Very cool. I was just thinking about using my Arpanoid again but putting it after the Raster pitch shifting delay so I could have evolving arpeggios.
some of this is heavily reminiscent of Larry Fast, some of my all time favorite instrumental music. enjoy this very much.

Im thinking for a long time to purchase this guitar effect. I will do it one day. I have some guitar effects when Im playing the theremin and I love how it sounds.
In terms of your click issue, maybe leaving it "on", and plugging the power supply into a dimmer switch, so that you can gradually turn it on. It may be possible to just put an on/off switch between the power supply and the socket (or the extension chord). There is a millisecond delay as the power supply "warms up" that might be enough.

Just make sure you won't be harming the power supply or pedal by going into a dimmer switch. The pedal my be unhappy not seeing its correct operating voltage and might not behave the way it is designed to.
I would recommend asking a certified electrician about the dimmer switch application. That is a creative idea, but as another commenter noted, it can be bad to supply a device with too little power. Beyond that, it may actually damage the pedal. (Maybe, maybe not, I'm not sure.)
Perhaps you could create a complicated series of pedals and jumper cables, all run through a board that allows you to silently switch the path of the signal leaving the theremin. Like A-B-D, then switch it to include A-B-C-D (C being the Arpanoid pedal). Hope this makes sense.
It would be a cool option if Earthquaker offered momentary switches by request to any of their pedals. I like the clicking one but I play nonsense at loud volumes so the clicking isn't an issue but I totally get what you are saying.
Hey +Carolina Eyck, if you are using the Arpanoid for a concert, I suggest you can turn it on when the instruments are tuning and switch the knob to the dry signal. When a special part comes in for the Arpanoid, you can switch the knob to the wet signal then return to the dry signal when you have a normal articulation.

Your Welcome, Carolina! BTW, why is it called the Arpanoid? Also, I'm planning to write a composition for Theremin w/ Arpanoid, Loopstation, Digital Delay pedal, Super Octave Pedal, Hummingbird pedal, and the Harminist Pedal, and chamber orchestra (by using "MuseScore"), so make sure that the Arpanoid is on and set only to the dry signal before starting the piece. (You will get that message in the beginning of the score in your part, also for the other pedals.) There are also some parts where you have to sing/vocalise in some parts of the piece. The Theremin Part name will also have the words "ad lib" with Expression as you feel. I hope you will enjoy it whenever I'm finished.

At 6:36 what is your settings in the Arpanoid ? how did you produce the melodic sound without altering the tonality of the random arpeggio sequence? are you using a looper? I cant figure it out. planning to hook this pedal to my DIY atari punk console and Otamatone. Am also planning to replace the loud foot switch with a quiet tackless foot switch. You could try keeping the pedal on at all times and turning the wet signal all the way down when you don't want the effect. Not sure if turning it down all the way will turn the signal completely off, but it may work.

Hi Carolina. You can actually remove the existing loudly clicking switch in pedals with a much quieter throw, or rotary switch for concretization purposes. :)

I've used the Ernie Ball before. It's a physically heavy pedal but good for situations like this
You could simply put the pedal in a loop and use a silent switching system.... Or a small mixer.
Swap the noisy switch out with one for a Moogerfooger. They are dead quiet.
If you call Moog Music they might be able to provide it or direct you to where to get one.

The click could be eliminated by inserting a volume pedal between the Arpanoid and the rest of your set-up.
