I am Black American and had never heard of akara until last weekend when I met up with a large group of friends, four of which are Nigerians. A Nigerian woman brought akara to the gather and boy was it good. She also brought moi moi. I've heard of moi moi before but I had never had it until last week. Another thing that I've heard of but never had was puff puff. One of the Nigerian men brought some that his wife had made. It too was very good.
I enjoyed everything so much that I'm planning on making all three next month when I visit my mother and sister. I will probably find some other African dishes to make like jollof rice.
