    Just picked one of these players up along with 25 discs. Thought I was buying laserdiscs so I was a little confused. Thank you so much for the detailed explanations.

    I remember back when these were brand new, now just as old school as 8-Track tapes. 8-Tracks were before my time but I was alive when they had video discs.

    I never knew these existed until I saw someone post about them on Facebook. We grew up with VCR tapes. My mother had a music record player. Of course cassettes. But no one I knew had one of these.

    Marion Ravenwood was a spunky, street smart character in Raiders of the Lost Ark(1981). It was a "mixed blessing" when she appeared in Crystal Skull in 2008.

    We had about twenty movies back in the day. I remember an RCA store near my boyhood home that would display the movies from floor to ceiling! Very impressive. There were so many I wanted to buy as a kid!

    Oh my gosh, my family use to have one of these. Ive not seen one in years. Brings back so many wonderful memories as a child. I think I was 10 or 11 years old when we first got ours. Dad bought several movies but the one we watched the most was Elvis Presley's GI Blues. Thanks for posting this video.

    Cool. My late uncle had one of these. He bought it when it first came out. This was before VHS tapes. He bought a bunch of movies. Me & my cousin used to go to his place & watch movies. He'd make popcorn & we would drink ice cold soda. He said he later sold it after it was discontinued.

    This is way interesting. Ive never heard of these until now. I saw some Disney movies in packages like this. Initially I thought they were laserdiscs. I thought that the big media battle involved only VHS vs Betamax, not this. I feel as if history didn't tell me about these, but they seem to be an important prelude to DVDs. I remember the VHS 📼 switch to DVD 📀. Im curious what titles you have for this media format? Anything Disney that's unusually rare? The cover art is great.

    Don't forget that some players could also be resumed from being powered off or reinserted and it would resume the movie. Atleast the ones we had could.

    the issue with your color is actually a player problem. i had the same exact issue on the same exact model. you just need to adjust the tone arm slightly down until you fix the problem. i guess the stylus just isn't getting enough tension on some of these old players.

  • @Christophersanchez1326

    Rebuilt a realistic ced player. Belts and a lube. This one uses RCA cables. Through video and sound. Sadly. Not stereo. My machine's stylus is about 75%. Wish could find a affordable extra needle

    • @sam_loomis
      @sam_loomis Před 5 lety

      Eric Thomas No, you can not. The grooves are microscopic compared to record grooves. However, I have seen someone cut grooves in a CED and played it like a vinyl record with the music they cut in it.

  • @scotthogan755
    @scotthogan755 Před 5 lety +1

    Just an FYI, you cannot touch a CED disc with your fingers. The discs have a special coating on it. Like when you said the stylus/magnetic shows you the images on the screen. Just imagine our greasy oily skin all over it. Lol. If you go in touch it your fingerprint will automatically be left on it LOL because it really does have a coding on it to keep it good for years to come unfortunately they don’t last very long because of the way people store them most people not knowing this they lay them flat and that’s the worst thing you can do for it because it’s going to tend to bow in the middle from all the weight being piled on it and it’ll rest upon one side of it so some of them actually the coating comes off inside of the cartridge caddy. If you ever look inside you’ll see there’s two felt strips right at the top soon as you take that top part off that is so the disc won’t get scratched and it cleans the discs too!
    I own a stereo model that has a remote lol. And there’s actually a website where they repair old styluses for a price of course I think it’s cheap to it’s like 30 or 40 bucks? Are you do is Google it stylus repair for selective vision and it comes right up in the feed on Google the first couple on the first page LOL anyway hope the info helps you have any questions feel free to post and I’ll answer! Take care everyone! - Scott

    Can the discs be cleaned? Will cleaning or wiping discs and player improve sound, skips or stops? Any information will be greatly appreciated.

    • @mdsvideos9620
      @mdsvideos9620 Před 3 lety +1

      You can’t touch a disc. There’s no way to clean a disc either.

    • @VideoStore64
      @VideoStore64 Před 2 lety +1

      The discs have a silicon lubricant on them to prolong stylus life, so wiping the disc surface will take off the lubricant, and thus will cause greater wear to the stylus when played back. You can rinse a disc with distilled water to get any gunk off of it, but it doesn't necessarily reduce the skips. Fortunately, more often than not, skips are an indication that the disc needs to have the stylus run through it a few times, as that's how the disc is normally supposed to be cleaned (dust and the lubricant can settle into the grooves, so the stylus essentially redistributes everything). There's at least one video on YT that shows how to inspect a disc prior to playback (to ensure that the disc isn't damaged, as a damaged disc risks damage to the stylus).
