@@therealOXOC I click the link and all that shows up his main page of the youtube channel. There isn’t any clear page showing any perks like asking Adam questions. Or anything that says join. Do they mean subscribe to this page? I already did that. It doesn’t highlight anywhere saying now you can ask Adam a question. It also doesn’t show any other perks or access to anything else....So yeah not that straight forward.

Back in 96 or 97, I wrote to ILM asking how I could work for them. I can't find the letter, but I got a response telling me to work hard and one day it might come to fruition.
I started working for them last month.

2. Find work to help you build a name and prepare tord your goal (Theater and Working with Jamie)
3. Have the energy and ego to know your the right for the job you want (calling every week for months and keeping in contact with people you have met along the way)
4. Get there and delver!
5. Understand that something's in life are more important then the job.
Thank you Adam for all your constant words of encouragement and insights!
6. Be proud of the awesome work you do regardless of the overall outcome of the end product that you do not have control over.
And make sure to leave extra early for your first day!

He really IS great at encouraging people. I find his videos really brighten my mood when I need it, and help me maintain good feelings when I'm feeling good.
@@everydayman2 Encouragement is not as important as self-discipline ... because "great art is 99% transpiration and 1% inspiration". You NEVER see the "frustrating and boring HOURS" where you try and fail, but those make up most of the time.
There was an episode where Adam and Jamie were building a "christmas Rube-Goldberg machine" with Coke & Mentos ... and they kept a few failures in, but in a rather shortened version. Going through all of them as they were failing in sequence so it would do one full run was probably rather annoying and tedious and took wayyyyy longer than the actual 2-3 minute final run.
The hand of Adam Savage touched Galaxy Quest. This does explain a few things. What a magical movie.

@@Serveck Correct! My boss recently told me that what put me ahead of the others was that I was 15 min early to the interview. I've always been early since I got burned one time when I had to fill out 10 minutes worth of paperwork before the interview.
Whenever I watch your videos and I hear your Westminster doorbell chime it brings a smile to my face. My grandparents had the same chime in their house when I was growing up.
Mine too. They had a large grandfather clock that chimed like that.

Wonderful. I worked for ILM many years ago as a commercial producer. A gathering of immensely talented, wild, wacky, 😂devoted and hard working folks. Every day with them was a adventure
I saw a video where the model makers for A New Hope thought they were working on a terrible low budget movie until they saw an early cut of the film. Always give your best effort and you'll be surprised by the results.
Was that from the _piercefilm productions_ channel and his documentary on model makers “Sense of Scale”? Tons of great anecdotes from those interviews.
Chrystene is such an interesting and talented person. We are very lucky to have her working in Regina, Saskatchewan.
I'm sorry about your dad. I watched my mom die from thyroid cancer and a few years later lost my son in an accident. I know the pain of losing a loved one.

My little company does that every day. We take a bunch of engineering "output" and make it into something resembling intelligence.

Braindead, Meet the Feebles & Bad Taste were amazing. Also, I've had an Opinel #10 for about 12 years now and it's still my favorite pocket knife.
As an actor I loved the Props people it was great to be given a thing and use it then give it back as a producer it was so great to have great props people that worked for just food on this crazy film that did not see the light of day. Props rock
My memory is terrible and I was sure I'd heard this before, only to realise I had, just before Xmas. Always fun to listen to Adam though.
Did he miss out the matrix? I'm sure i saw him in behind the scenes footage working on the crane in Zion for the second or third movie of the matrix. Maybe thats the crane he talks of.

If it’s your life’s dream to work at ILM and after constant rejection you finally get a gig. YOU DON’T BE LATE and you do what it takes to make that happen. And you did. I got a job at an airline and crew parking is always in some weird place and the walk to the planning offices and crew room is always so convoluted, so a week before I did a dry run and timed it, then added an hour. So I feel you on that one.
In VFX it’s the same. I worked on three features (I mainly do TV and commercials, and yeah that’s really fast paced! Idiotic deadlines!)
But those films I personally don’t really like that much either.
But making a good movie is so damn hard! And takes so much time and effort. I have respect for every director. But especially for these indie directors that do 5 or 6 jobs and fund their project with their own money; or go and find investors on their own. Man!!! Incredible!

Films you personally helped make don't need to be awesome, to still be awesome. Regardless of it's quality they are part of a persons life, parts of some people's childhood, and they have nostalgia for that part of their lives which that movie is a small part of. They will always remember them. Have fond memories of the Denzil Washington movie Deja Vue? No? Will I do, because of what was going on in my life at that time. I watched it a MILLION times during my working as a theater usher lunch break because it was the best movie we were showing at the time. The rest of the movies were completely uninteresting, so it was the best. Imagine having working on the film a couple who were married for 50 yrs had watched in a theater on their first date.
I worked at Lucas Digital from 97 to 03. Before it went corporate. The model shop was the coolest thing I have ever seen. It really was a magic factory.
opinel knives are awesome - they are affordable, so you can actually use the things - do not have to worry about running them. It is a tool that you can replace.

No.8, with a carbon steel blade. If you work near the ocean you might need the stainless steel (inox), but I've never had a carbon blade go rusty & I've camped all over Scotland.
I live near the ocean and I had a No.8 carbon steel blade - it has an amount of surface rust as much as I do my best to keep it clean. If you're near an ocean I would opt for the stainless

I worked at the beginning of commercial TV, Luxemburg. Rolled into it and it did nothing for me..
Most movies are just ok that is how the bell curve works.
I think I may have found my path in life.. I have been a ranch hand for the last 13 years since I was 12 so more than half my life and i think this must be the best way to use my set of skills

I work in a model shop. From scratch I've made magazines for a new Remington rifle that never got to production and all sorts of wonderful things. I make 4x as much as all the teachers who said i wouldnt amount to shit. Study trades folks. College is nearly useless.
I think you were right on the nose for that feel of working on a movie. I used to do visual effects for a living and always asked myself "When am i going to work on a movie i like?" It just never happened.

I worked at an educational channel when I first got out of school. My brief was to do a drawing of a lobster. I went to get supermarket and bought a frozen lobster. I made good progress, ahead of time. Left the studio, put the lobster in me drawer. Next day I came in and all the designer in the studio.... finish this story)))
On one hand i am glad you didn't go to Weta because we probably wouldn't have had Mythbusters and Tested but on the other hand: Oh boy, to turn down a Job with LotR... And no offense but Episode One vs Lotr is just no contest.

@adam Do you think your first task at ILM was a test? I know you have talked in the past about how replicating an object is a better test of a model maker than creating something from an idea e.g. unique new spacecraft or whatever
