Antennas are vertically polarized, hold the radio straight up and down. Not horizontal or Ground level.
These radios to me are only meant for on site operations or around the house. Liked the range testing though.
think of a circle which is one mile if the other person is beyond that circle
you are out of range
and yes that's right hold the radio up
This videos deserves likes
Joshua Kirkland thanks! This comment deserves love.
Thank you and Lucy so much for taking the time to do this test and make the video. Invaluable!! I am desperately searching for a solution to having no cell signal in a rural residential area. Your setting is a great comparison. Really helps me KNOW that there are big pitfalls with this approach. I don’t think my older partner would be able to make out the garble at all. You just saved me a tonne of frustration.
but you have ZERO alternatives, without getting a REAL "GMRS" radio, which requires a license.........anything bubble wrap like Midland, Cobra, Motoral will be Exactly the same as this, period........You will NOT be able to get more than 2 mile range in Wooded/Urban area without programming your radio to a Repeater.....like I said, which requires a Real GMRS radio, not these bubble wraps.
the bubble wrap has two sides f r s right out of the box 2 miles or line of site
the G M R S channels are the next group up on your dial there are 8 tied in to a group of towers around you with a 20 mile range I do that all day every day
and I do that everyday and when the east coast G M R S club does
there talk around I talk to Chicago iLL through a tower link up.
How high the antana is makes a difference. So with it on the ground is the worst way to use it. I think that they test them in perfect conditions and if they can get it to work once at a range that is what they say.
the radio has a 2 watt transmiter with a range of two miles line of site the more buildings you louse( I had a block long mall and my apartment between me and my base I could not transmit between both buildings at one block so line of site know I run G M R S only with a license
it is a job site radio 12 floors up and 2 thousend squar ft on ground.
Thanks!!! finally a review which helps describe how it would work in my town.
Very nice video :-). Thanks for sharing. Mine just arrived yesterday after buying them from Costco online. Tested yesterday evening, and again half an hour ago with me (driving in car) and my daughter at home (watching TV). Got a good range of 1.1 km (1100 meter) on channel 15, that is from my home to her school on all the 3 radios. There are 60 homes and 2 parks in between. Air distance is 1 km. I have applied different colored (red, green, yellow) 5 mm diameter circular stickers on them (near root of antenna) to identify them. Same stickers on their battery packs too. I purchased them to use on cruise ship. Hope they will work well :)
Thanks for the comment. It'll be interesting to see how they work on a ship - I'd imagine interferece due to the steel walls... but out and about should be fine.
@@hamstergraphics Going to cruise in March break. Will share the results then 👍
@@pinakoza Great. Have fun! (I worked on cruise ships for over 10 years... Those were the days!)
@@hamstergraphics Wow, great work! Just thinking of that makes my heart smile :)
check in with the ship first to see if you can without coming over them
I just got mine also from Uline as free item. 😅
This is the best review video I have ever seen.
Could haven’t ask for a better partner.
I did purchase these same talkies.
haha, appreciate the comment.
Great video, I love you added your daughter to help. She looks like 6/7 there so she should be like 9 now, same age as my daughter. At that age my daughter was daddy little girl, she's slowly not having time for me anymore these days😔
ha, thanks, actually turned 13 yesterday...
Your on ch 1 which is the family band with limited range....try this out again but on channel 15 you'll thank me later lol... Basically anything ch 14 and up extends the range on these little radios..oh i know i know you need a fcc license too talk up there cough😂😂 do it anyways wooptie do
No way?! Really? Ok, I'll look into this... Thanks!
@@hamstergraphics yes sir lol

Ok, so apparently we don't need a license here in Canada. I did read that GMRS is capped at 2 watts, while in the States it is 5 watts.. I haven't tested the different channnels but it looks like Channel 1 is FRS/GMRS 2 watts, so I pressume that's the best I'll get anyway?
@@hamstergraphics Yes, you are right. Page 14 of manual says that channels 8-14 are low power FRS, so I guess channels 1-7, and 15-22 all are high powered channels. So channel 1 or 15 shouldn't make much difference in range.
20 mile plus range on a hill top or mountain good video post....we upgrade pur Midland radios to 3 watts most can be modded....
Sex
family service is two watts 20 miles requires that the radio be programmed to a tower
with a G M R S license to go with it.
the f c c has them locked in at 2 watts and line of site only
I do 20 miles off one tower there are 6 in the systum covering three county's
and IT requires a G M R S license for that priblage. there 35 dollars and
no test.
2:52 she was just sitting there staring at the camera
Can’t get good help these days
EXCELENTE VIDEO. :)
Great kid!
I love that you took the time to make this review could you give me the max range?
completely depends on obstructions, with zero obstructions it could probably do a full 2.5 kilometers maybe even more.
out in the suberbs maybe a mile.
Nice radios, but took mine back!.....they don't cut it for prepping or communication around town........And you can get REAL "gmrs" radios for $25 all day long!(baofeng, retevis, BTech).....and connect to Repeater towers for Serious range!.......you NEED a license for these.......However, these midlands are good for kayaking, or hiking, events........but if you live in Wooded areas, or want something for prepping, GET a real Gmrs radio....there's more of a learning curve, but you can hit Towers, and talk 60+ miles away
So it was you who I could here through my TV set last night.
Haha, do you copy, copy
I need one so I can talk to my girl friend across the lake..Is there a weather alert with your radio?
I have to talk to my girl friend on the other side of Lake of the Woods when I am fishing . Also my Grand Daughters will get them in the Spring....Good by winter..Did you see the weather for the next few days?
@@keithsage7258 Yes, one of the channels (don't recall which) did have a detailed weather report announcement.
yes there is and it will work well happy boating
Nice review
Lucy looks like a freaking ninja!
Thanks for making this video. I'm at Sam's Club and just saw your video while watching them for sale. What was the farthest you were able to get good voice quality? Are they really worth it?
So far I only used it with the kids. Right now they biked to the park about 500 metres away.... sorry, haven’t used in open areas, but other videos show they are not bad, but nothing like the 28 mile range they say
@@hamstergraphics thanks for the update. Enjoy!
Lol., I am at STAPLES watching this review also,
Luis G haha, are you pulling the trigger and getting?
thay are 2 miles or line of site
I’ve got the t295 and they really don’t go far. But what do you want for 100$ bucks.
there range is only two miles for family service
What's best for city use? I want something good for 7 to 10 miles. Thanks.
GMRS and GOING to need a repeater for sure........or get a HAM license.
@@94SexyStang do they have private channels you can when you have a license?
Would these be good for kayaking?
Joe Avery I don’t see why not. You’re likely to have a clearer view on the water.
care full around water if thay fall in it might be a trip to store for a new one
My walkie talkie that says 3km range but i can do a 100m range
Child talking with The Radio on the Ground? Training...
1 Kilometer = 0.62137119224 Miles in case your wondering. So this isn't an impressive distance.
Approximately.
Wrong.....this IS impressive for LESS than $100 walkie talkie....threw dense woods.
Ok that’s exactly how I got mine lol
Children have to be instructed in operation of any Transmitter. The Roger Beeps can be turned off on these. Annoying. Most Adults without. Experience have enough issues.
kilometers...omg
Lucy can yo hear me ova?
Legend has it that Lucy is still waiting in the grass to hear back. Ova
