- Our righteous, reckless... TWITCHY little man. Who is the "real" Will? Is he good or bad? Neither one nor the other: we shouldn't label him (he's both).
Think of Will's mind as an antivirus (an impenetrable fort), he wasn't going to just let some lame or random killer seep into his mind, was he?
I used to think it was all because of Hannibal (and yes, at first) but then it was Will's doing. He kind of saw an opportunity for that long-awaited change with Hannibal and took it. That's fucked up, I know. But now I get why Hannibal said: "I can feed the caterpillar and I can whisper through the chrysalis, but... what hatches, follows its own nature and is beyond me." Back then I believed Hannibal was being delusional, but ohhh- it made sense.
This was definitely made by hannibal.

I loved this straight off the bat. I think it’s a mixture of the lulling music + typography. Haven’t ever seen anyone used this style for an analysis before.

The devil is in the detail. I love the fact that you can "notice" these things, even if it wasn't done on purpose or if its all made up... I completely believe it LOL. The theme about the series is about seeing. Being seen, etc. "What do you see?". Art can be interpreted in many ways. It's beautiful.

Interesting, interesting. My theory was that he wore them as a barrier to people potentially seeing his “psychopathic stare”, as he was concerned that he might be a psychopath and didn’t want to be seen that way by others. Except those that he chose to be vulnerable with and let them see him, psychopath or not. I don’t think he actually is a psychopath, I just think that he thinks he might be due to ‘absorbing’ so many psychopaths. Hanni forced Will to confront this fear when he set him up and he subsequently wore his barrier glasses a whole lot less after he leaned into people seeing him as a psychopath.

This is exactly what I've been looking for. I noticed whenever Will began experiencing lost time that he didn't make any realistic accommodations. He didn't start buying a cab or something to travel, or ask someone to pick him up or drop him off. He just continued to drive around as if it were perfectly safe, as if it isn't possible for something to happen to him or someone else as a result of his condition. That's passive suicidal ideation; he's actively allowing death to give him an out. I thought it was illogical writing because the show just doesn't seem to address his choice whatsoever, but I suppose it's just a character subtly descending into self-destruction.
Certainly. There are acts or decisions where we hurt ourselves, not considering or putting our safety and integrity first and foremost. Will doesn't self-harm physically, but emotionally. And this often goes unnoticed...
Adding his savior and martyr complex to the mix. I'm not surprised by the "end" of the third season. In fact, it's very fitting regardless. Like: naturally, I'll throw us off the cliff. We might not survive, but that's the thing. ☝🏻🤓
The music makes it so relaxing to watch and the analysis my god the analysis just showcases the complexity of Will's character. William derived from Germanic Wilhelm means "resolute protector" or soldier. Will putting on his glasses in an attempt to shield himself fits his character.
Ohh I didn't know that! It's very fitting. He's an incredibly strong and stubborn character. He had encephalitis and went through a lot but he fought back. His main focus -and major struggle- was protecting himself (and his loved ones too).

Thank you so much for this video. Personally lately I've been so fed up with the current level of content published in fandoms in general that doesn't go beyond memes/edits or such as. I really appreciated this analysis, it was so well done. I also liked how the video was edited, with the scenes being shown just with some text and music, it really highlighted what you were describing. (maybe sometimes it was a bit too fast, but some already addressed that)
Being reminded of such details in the show makes me remember how much effort and thoughtfullness everyone put into it.

I love characters that think they're a better version of themself (i.e smarter, more presentable, more fitting in) when they wear glasses or any other article of clothing as a coping and they feel they aren't that person when they take it off they arent even though that is a placebo. I myself wear glasses when I'm outside but when I'm comfortable mainly at home I don't, mainly cause my glasses only help me see far away things. I also struggle with eye contact and can't remember peoples eyes or their face properly
I love seeing analysis like this, it really just gives the show so much more meaning when fans debunk little hints in the show.
I really liked this in-depth analysis. But i had difficulty keeping up with the reading, because the writing was a tad too fast-paced for me (despite being a rather fast reader). The pace of the clothing analysis worked better for me. I hope to see more hannibal content from you.

I wish people made more of Hannibal analysis somewhat in this style. Maybe just mainly more of them. Even though of how much I luxuriate in fucking my brain out doing it myself, seeing someone look and care deeper for the show than just viewing it is the thing I'm looking for.
I wish it too! You may be missing noticing something important that someone else may make you see. On tiktok I have seen several accounts share their knowledge and open discussion about it. I personally love analyzing what I'm watching... the story being watched might be enjoyable but the experience is enhanced when the viewer can interpret and draw their own conclusions rather than having everything explicitly spelled out. It highlights the value of personal interpretation and real engagement with the narrative.

Thank you! I couldn't grasp my mind on this and it bothered me SO MUCH. It bothered me always when I rewatched Hannibal. It was a mystery to me, how? How he can see without glasses? Does he need them? And if not what is the reason? I finally understand, "see" >D It was perfect analysis!
I can relate. As a person who has to wear glasses permanently, I was invested 😅 For example, our vision gets even worse at night, etc! You could tell Will wasn't affected (wasn't his case). He needed the glasses at first as part of an "identity" (old and good Will) until he didn't (S3 Will). I read somewhere that Hugh intentionally wanted to portray an "innocent" Will (as the lamb) in the first season, who progressively broke out of his shell. Thanks u for watching!

Will's constant taking off and putting back on the glasses immediately struck a nerve, and i was like "is he short sighted maybe??" But WOW this video does make an amazing insight into the real reason he wears them!! Acting as a physical and also mental barrier, and the fact that he takes them off for those who he cares for / those who understand him; the only ones he can actually "see" 🙌🏻🙌🏻
