If the DS and 3DS games come back on the Switch, the settings will be similar to the Wii U when it had DS games. I can understand why not many people know about this because Wii U... but there are screenshots and videos that'll show what I mean.
If the next console has 2 screerns then yeah I think DS/3DS 100% will come to the Online
I think the 3DS would be a really nice addition to the online service.
I think it's wishful thinking, but could be a possibility. Thing is, GBA on Switch Online has been out for pretty much a year, if the info on the page is correct, only 14 titles have been released with just 1 coming soon. What's more, I don't see a pokemon game in there, and GBA was a platform that released many great pokemon games, like Emerald. Most attempts of nintendo to release titles and consoles on the online service have left me bittersweet.
Making a good way to deliver 2 screen games is going to be tough, and I don't see Nintendo doing much on the service department. Maybe in the future, but my hopes are low to none. Good take on the video tho.
Logistically how would that work though? Like you’d have to have two screens to play?
They had a few DS games on Wii u as you had the pad & tv screen which worked fairly well.
Handheld would be nearly impossible unless the top screen was less in weight?
The extra cost for having two LCD style screens in switch size would add extra cost to the console price which is what puts me off them actually doing this.

I just don't think the featureset is there. Even in portable mode the type of touchscreen is just MASSIVELY different than the DS' touchscreen (reflexive in DS and 3DS case and capacitive in the Switch's case) and the Switch doesn't have certain other things like a microphone that a lot of DS games shoehorned in at various points. Think about Phantom Hourglass that needed you to blow into the microphone to clear dust off of something. That's just not something you can do on a Switch.
It sucks because the DS has a fantastic library. I just don't think they'd have an easy time given the difference between a capacitive and resistive touch screens (there's a reason the DS needed a stylus). If you think of the DS' screen as something akin to an ATM machine's screen while the Switch's screen is akin to a smartphone screen you get how differently the two read inputs. The Wii U had a resistive screen just like the DS so it was a much more natural pairing.
The 3DS is a different matter in that Nintendo hates offering recent systems for something like this. Most 3DS games are not heavy in using things like the microphone or the camera even though those are options. But I really doubt they'd want to offer it.
If it does that would suck for me cus I bought a 3ds 3 months ago
