DocP91B Fair enough, we don't really do much over here, but sit inside and drink tea. Hell even our tanks have kettles in them. Im not even joking they do!
I would rather watch someone give honest, critical feedback on equipment than hear all sunshine and rainbows fluff on gear that is not up to quality. It has been very helpful, seeing as I am just stepping into survival gear. I especially like how you are getting your boys involved. I am doing the same with my girls and wife as we are getting into it ourselves. Keep up the good work, sir.
I remember last summer when you were doing a 5k giveaway and you shot up to 10k that same week and now you’ve tripled that in less than 6 months! Great job dude!
I know I'm late to the party but for those wondering like he did about the utensils, Lexan is actually superior to most plastic utensil sets, and that previous set in the basic box was trash. It makes sense they'd throw the upgraded ones in their Pro box and $6.99 is about average for a set of Lexan ones on Amazon (although Trail Blazer is a lessor brand that most on Amazon). So toss the metal ones in the bin and enjoy the Lexan ones. ;)
You know. I think it is SO cool that your son likes to show off the things that he thinks are cool just like his daddy and that you are cool with it. He's been featuring in your vids so much lately, it sortta feels like an Adden's item of the week segment Adorbs!
There's a much better version of that "boot" knife, made by Smith and Wesson. Its the SWHRT9B boot knife. Nice leather sheath, clip for a boot (or belt rig), and is double sided. Sharp out of the box as well. I've had mine for 4 years now, used it for a throwing knife on many occasions. Kept up on the edge with maintenance and its still sharp to this day. Tough knife, but I really abused it and broke the metal guard in the rubber. Still usable.
I got the shtf box this month and the collapsible cup is the cup you pick up at the end of the review of the mess kit you pull the the tab out and it starts to un fold
Thumbs up for the video, I laughed my ass off through the entire thing and my favorite part was: "The hunter becomes the hunted" LMMFAO, I guess i'm gonna get hunted to death. LOL,
I busted two of the tabs of the spice bottle off. Major surplus used to sell another version of the spice container. I highly recommend getting the knife of the month subscription. The January knife was a Ridge Runner Montana Toothpick Bowie (See BudK). Feb knives were a set of three Shadow Warrior knives (Blue, gold, and grey). Also can be seen at Budk.
I get the $20.00 box I think I will be happy with it. I do like the idea of the wise food it has a 25 year shelf life super light for camping or hiking. MREs are faster but much heavier also and only have a 5 year life. This stuff looks like it could be a big hit on your sons scout camp outs bunch of utensils and little mess kit. Great review thanks Doc!
DocP91B Depends completely upon the temperature in which they are stored. In extreme heat they last less than a year. In cool temps much, much longer. According to data I saw online some time ago.
I suggest getting the knife of the month option. The January knife was a ridge runner Montana Toothpick Bowie. The Feb knife was a set (3) of extremely sharp shadow warrior knives. How sharp? I managed to slice open the inside of my left thumb using the knob on top to open one. Metal blade and metal handle. 19.99 value for the basic 10 buck cost of the club.
Not great but not bad, I was content with my box. The fishing kit is nothing to write home about, but it could work if that’s all you had. I do get what you say about the wise food, but in a shtf situation, if you don’t have water your kinda screwed already. Good review, thanks as always.
I have 2 questions that are unrelated and probably pretty dumb, but 1. What does Molle stand for (like the snaps on knife sheaths) and what are awls used for?
Never a dumb question - and this is asked pretty often actually. MOLLE stands for Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment, and is the newer generation of gear that replaced ALICE in the late 90s, and really became widespread in the early 2000s. Awls are used for punching holes in stuff.
That 3rd silverware set, we always call them nylon silverware, Their deal is simple, easy to use, easy to clean, and you have to try pretty dang hard to destroy them (assuming it's a even mildly decent set). Use em to stir food in boiling water without transferring heat, just don't leave them in the container, they can melt. That said, you can get good ones with a carabiner for around $6, $13 is way to much.
MSR 1.6L camping pot is the best you can fit another stainless steel cooking set from Amazon inside it. With a wood burning stove and other stuff you are ready to go. Amazon travel fishing rod for backpack knife axe and ready to go.
You should do a spearhead comparison video since all these boxes keep having them, and definitely throw in the OKC Army knife as well. That would make for an Interesting and undoubtedly funny video. Keep it up with the awesome vids :)
I got this box today, I’m pretty sure we got 4-5 of the same items in other months, kinda upset. Actually canceled them today and just gonna keep going with battle box other then battle box and SHTF
First off, thanks! As for low budget knives, I usually recommend looming into a few different brands. First if all there are two brands out if China that actually offer you pretty goid value at low cost. Kubey (I have quite a few myself) and Ganzo. Kershaw and CRKT also have some pretty good knives at the lower end of their price lines.
the value on those lock picks is actually closer to $29 if you bought them separately. be careful that you do not lose the tensioning rod, ( put some tape, or a RANGER band over it) the picks are decent, and can be carried somewhat covertly, for emergency use. lock picking is a critical skill, I even did a video on lock pick sets, and lock picking on my channel.
So you did not really miss much with the January Box there was a handful of good things in it but most of the stuff was crap. The December Box however had a decent sleeping bag and wool blanket in it along with a mask that would be pretty warm although it's illegal in Virginia to wear a mask if you're over 13.
Hey dude. I'm enjoying your unboxing videos quite a lot! But do you know if any of these subscription services ship internationally? I've communicated with a few of them, and it seems that the admin potential is too much for them to want to explore. I understand that. I would however love to find someone in my budget ($40 to $80) willing to ship to Johannesburg, South Africa. (Recent political changes in both of our countries make that budget possible)
The Spear head take out that crappy rod, add a screw in the side pouch. if you put on a shorter stick it could be used for hacking or chopping without feeling the force of the strike. just a thought. Great review though
I like your videos! My only though would be on the dehydrated food. You said you don’t like them because it assumes you have water. I would argue that you better be finding a water source before a food source. You’ll die from thirst long before you die of hunger. So it can go both ways.
I see your point, but at the same time if you are depending on a found water source for your drinking water, do you really want to use some to make your food. If you've found a large source like a lake or stream i guess it's not such a big deal, but assuming you only have access to a small amount I would rather use it all for drinking.
DocP91B Very true. It would be a decent waste to make that food. MRE is definitely the best way to go. It does add significant weight and take up a lot of space for one meal though. I guess it comes down to balancing your bag out.
I think I would put that spear head in the meh pile as well. I do see what all is wrong with it, but if I were actually in a survival situation I feel like I’d be more inclined to fastening it to a stick as a spear, than I would my knife. And for saving my primary blade, I think it’d be a great item to have in that scenario. The packaging and info on the knife was pretty shitty, but for $9 it’s better than a sharpened stick (hardly, but still). My issue with it though, is that I’m never going to be stranded on an island; and if I am, the chances of me having this specific item are slim. I think this would be alright in the box as a basic item, because the only people getting any use out of it are going to be kids buying the basic box just to have some outdoors gear to play with.
Great video! I just ordered the same lockpick set. I am curious... can you take a pic of your filming setup for me? I am thinking of setting up my own CZcams channel. Clearly you have a tripod of some sort.
You don't even need a picture of my "set up" for real man, I have a Sony HD camera on a full size collapsible tripod I bought at Target. Nothing fancier. I use Power Director 16 software to edit and render in 1080p 60FPS. Don't get too wrapped up in the 4K thing. Most people are watching on devices that don't even display 4K resolution, and for the majority of videos 4K is overkill and just sucks up memory and time while uploading and stuff.
That mess kit is a clone of WILDO camp-0-box (made in Sweden), but plastic on this one looks much cheaper especially the folding cup. And it's not like original one is expencive, full kit costs around $20 and there are cheaper versions with less items.
Yeah that lockpick set is one of the better "travel/ edc" options, however it is a blatant ripoff of the original Southord Jackknife set. The Southord one runs around 40$ on most sites, so 20$ msrp is a good deal.
I still have my original southerd jack knife set in the black frn handle from when they first came out forever ago. It's not bad, it's not great but it's not bad. Still prefer my custom titanium set that I carry every day because they are thin handle less and I can have 8 picks and two tension wrenches full size hardly wider than the cross pencil that rides next to them. The Jack knife set is fine for learning and if you have nothing else but it's never my first choice.
I didn't know they ever made an frn handle version. I really like my Southord nps-2000, it's very compact and it clips onto my pocket like a pen. I've tried to avoid carrying any full sets because I'm always afraid of being careless and bending them.
Redpillow2 I keep them all stacked together in a carrier I made for them that holds my pocket comb my ruler/protractor and my pencil. It holds them well in the stack so they can't flex and take up almost no room.
For your don't like it stuff you should donate it to boy scout troops if you don't want it. I'm sure they'd love it. I loved camping out in the woods building my own shelter when I was in. Glad I got my eagle.
Hey Doc, are you still sending out the giveaway items? I never got any notification from you that you sent the pen. It's fine if you are still sending them, just want to know. Thanks man!
I love that you don't tell your kids to go away while you're filming
The boys will ALWAYS come first!
Ah you see here in the UK our mess kits are mandated by law to come with a tea cup.
I think I knew that. Everything I knew about the UK I learned from Dr. Who.
DocP91B
Fair enough, we don't really do much over here, but sit inside and drink tea. Hell even our tanks have kettles in them. Im not even joking they do!
I've worked with a handful of Challenger IIs from the Dragoons. I guess that super impressive armor is really to protect tea time.
DocP91B
Yeah, I mean someone sneaking up on you is while drinking tea is the last thing you can, also it's just plain rude.
I like how in depth you go
I would rather watch someone give honest, critical feedback on equipment than hear all sunshine and rainbows fluff on gear that is not up to quality. It has been very helpful, seeing as I am just stepping into survival gear. I especially like how you are getting your boys involved. I am doing the same with my girls and wife as we are getting into it ourselves. Keep up the good work, sir.
Kreiger knives are pretty great knives. Most have decent steel and come pretty sharp. Would recommend their straight edge razors and their stilletos.
I remember last summer when you were doing a 5k giveaway and you shot up to 10k that same week and now you’ve tripled that in less than 6 months! Great job dude!
Thanks! I owe it all to the viewers - they are the ones who made this channel!
So glad this box is back!!!
My favorite and the best bang for the buck.
Nice video.
That Amazon Jungle Spearhead looks a lot like Cold Steels Bushman
I like this box because it surprises with some good items too ! Cool !
The only thing ridged about that “boot knife “ is the guy who sells them at the flea market.
Another great video thanks again doc..God bless you and your family..
Thanks!
I love the random. Cat 🐈
I got the shtf box this month and the collapsible cup is the cup you pick up at the end of the review of the mess kit you pull the the tab out and it starts to un fold
Holy fuck I lost my ahit with the hunter becomes the hunted
Thumbs up for the video, I laughed my ass off through the entire thing and my favorite part was: "The hunter becomes the hunted" LMMFAO, I guess i'm gonna get hunted to death. LOL,
“The hunter becomes the hunted” LMAO
Love your videos . i like that you say what it really is
I busted two of the tabs of the spice bottle off. Major surplus used to sell another version of the spice container. I highly recommend getting the knife of the month subscription. Great review thanks Doc!
Military issued MREs last 12 years.
DocP91B thanks guess I saw wrong on the ones I have had.
DocP91B Depends completely upon the temperature in which they are stored. In extreme heat they last less than a year. In cool temps much, much longer. According to data I saw online some time ago.
The price for the paragrenade is spot on ,I paid for some before and gave out as stocking stuffers
Thanks for the suggestion. I will definitely look into it.
There is not one single item in that box I would buy. There are far better out there then that crap. Like the videos please keep them coming.
Not great but not bad, I was content with my box. The fishing kit is nothing to write home about, but it could work if that’s all you had. I do get what you say about the wise food, but in a shtf situation, if you don’t have water your kinda screwed already. Good review, thanks as always.
I got myself something like the practice lock, level got up pretty good at picking it, definitely a useful skill to have
Spear knife needs a wooden handle to make into a throwing spear.
Put a nail, or screw to hold it in.
fast forward music was the best part! Good box this month.
I should start contests to see who can be the first to ID the fast forward music, when I use it.
Not a bad box. Thanks for the info
I think the us style means our measurements
Good call! That makes sense!
FYI The dbl sided knife can be used for making a pole-arm for hunting
This subscription box is so bad it’s good always look forward to your shtf box review

DocP91B you learn something new every day, thanks for the response. Great content keep up the great work!
That lockpick set (which I like very much) sells on wish.com for AUS$19.00 + shipping. So that's probably US$10-15, yes?
The kriegar knife is a straight otter Mercator knockoff
As a former postal person they deliver only packages on Sundays,no mail ..... bad kitty😂
The pocket knife looks like a copy of a Mercator which are made in Solingen, Germany.
You have great reviews, I really like how you break down every item
MSR 1.6L camping pot is the best you can fit another stainless steel cooking set from Amazon inside it. With a wood burning stove and other stuff you are ready to go. Amazon travel fishing rod for backpack knife axe and ready to go.

Out of battle box, shtf, and alpha outpost and others you've tried. Which is the one you'd recommend ( best value, highest quality)?
Always BattlBox.
Say hi ethan
“Hi Ethan”
Lmao he’s funnier than you
You are great.
I'm looking for a decent low budget knife any suggestions?
First off, thanks! As for low budget knives, I usually recommend looming into a few different brands. First if all there are two brands out if China that actually offer you pretty goid value at low cost. Kubey (I have quite a few myself) and Ganzo. DocP91B thanks
Tension or torque wrench for the lock pick
I think that plastic utensils are better then the metal ones.
The lock pick looks good not sure unless I was holding it. And the bar for turning the barrel is called a tensioner.
the value on those lock picks is actually closer to $29 if you bought them separately. be careful that you do not lose the tensioning rod, ( put some tape, or a RANGER band over it) the picks are decent, and can be carried somewhat covertly, for emergency use. lock picking is a critical skill, I even did a video on lock pick sets, and lock picking on my channel.
the para-cord survival pod comes apart quickly by pulling a string on the other side lol its also called a para-cord survival grenade
I love how everything or one want to be on the vid... cat and kid are prieceless
The tinder in the fishing pod can be used as a lure for certain types of fishing.
That's cool info. I really need to learn more about fishing.
So you did not really miss much with the January Box there was a handful of good things in it but most of the stuff was crap. The December Box however had a decent sleeping bag and wool blanket in it along with a mask that would be pretty warm although it's illegal in Virginia to wear a mask if you're over 13.
For real?!? A law against wearing a mask?!? What if it's cold???
I guess you just suck it up and curse whom ever made that stupid law
26:22 that knife is a knockoff or a copy of the cold steel bushman.
Whitch is a garbage knife to start 😂😂
the boot knife is for stabbing and stabbing knives are supposed to be blunt
Lexan is a great plastic very strong.

3 utensil sets.. Yay
What was that music from? I know i have heard it before.. I'm thinking NES video game
Katie Pio Contra
The return
Maybe they meant the Hunter as being an animal that normally is the hunter. So therefore the Hunter, lion, is now The Hunted
Im pretty sure that theplain key is to make a bump key.
I think they mean the predator chasing you becomes prey. Still doesn't scan though.
Agree except I would have put the fishing kit in don't like it pile.
The lock picks price is reasonable for what you got.
I'd grind the handle flat and fit handle and scales.
Watch! As this ordinary sheet of paper cuts this knife blade! See it fall to pieces! And whats this? Wonderful! Another FUCKING BOTTLE OPENER!!!
Love the vid
The hunter becomes the hunted means, the person hunting you becomes the hunted.
But it's stupid and grammatically awkward. It should say the hunted becomes the hunter.
the fish kit can catch blue gill and other sunfish
Worth it
That fishing pod is worthless I could make one that fits in a dip can
William Becker hey that’s not a bad idea. Dip o fish.
The spearhead knife I think is great u get a six to eight foot pole and use it for protecting yourself from a charging animal
The blade steel on united cutlery, knives is really bridle
What happened with everything having bottle openers but nothing has can openeres anymore
How else you gonna get your bottle of beer open after the zombie apocalypse?
I like your videos! My only though would be on the dehydrated food. You said you don’t like them because it assumes you have water. I would argue that you better be finding a water source before a food source. You’ll die from thirst long before you die of hunger. So it can go both ways.

When packing your bug out bag redundancy redundancy redundancy

Great video!
I just ordered the same lockpick set.
I am curious... can you take a pic of your filming setup for me? I am thinking of setting up my own CZcams channel.
Clearly you have a tripod of some sort.
I'm sure I wouldn't be a competition tho. Lol.
That first knife looks like an otter messer/knife. It is a German style but I stick with otter. Verdammt gute Marke👌
The only thing I will defend from the dining set is the knife was not meant to be sharp just good enough to eat with
The cats so cute i want it
That mess kit is a clone of WILDO camp-0-box (made in Sweden), but plastic on this one looks much cheaper especially the folding cup. And it's not like original one is expencive, full kit costs around $20 and there are cheaper versions with less items.
get a refund?
yass, you have noticed we want more tato XD, love dogs so much, ma uncle has 3, i walk those like 3hours the day ill go there
The animal was the hunter, now you are
To me, from an English writing and grammar standpoint, it makes more sense if it's written "The Hunted becomes the Hunter".
DocP91B I can agree with that, but I can see what they were going for
The spear looks like a flattened garden shovel
You should do a whistle gear test, You've gotten a lot of them so far.
That is something I haven't thought of. Nice!
Overpriced stuff I can get a lot of it at dollar stores.
Roughly $65 of "like" items for $160 Elite box? Does that sound about right?
No. The box only costs $89. You are looking at the MSRP, of the items, not the actual cost of the box.
the steel is 1085
For your don't like it stuff you should donate it to boy scout troops if you don't want it. I'm sure they'd love it. I loved camping out in the woods building my own shelter when I was in. Glad I got my eagle.
That's usually what I do with most of the stuff in general. use it with the scouts, friends still in uniforms, whoever can put it to use.
DocP91B that's awesome!
For the spear thing look up implied facepalm tommy lee jones with a newspaper you'll understand ;)
Hey Doc, are you still sending out the giveaway items? I never got any notification from you that you sent the pen. It's fine if you are still sending them, just want to know. Thanks man!
Actually I literally packaged yours 10 minutes ago in the batch going out tomorrow.
DocP91B ha, guess I should have waited a bit longer. Thanks again!
Because tactical boot knives should always be carried on the shoulder bahahaha
It's a tension bar.
What branch did you serve in.
21 years in total, 8 years Army, 13 years Air Force.
DocP91B thanks for the great videos, and for serving the country.🇺🇸
