    Im from NYC and I have to say our food is pretty darn delicious! I do think however a lot of Asian american millenials (from both coasts) are opening a ton of new spots with a lot of ideas that are popular in asia and bringing it to the USA & I think that's really cool too because its gapping a bridge that we all wanted and needed (fresh new ideas for food that takes ideas from asia but americanizing it to asian american palettes. Whether it be NYC or LA, this is the new "American Chinese food wave" and i am living for it.

      They’re definitely bias on some stuff tho. I lost some trust in their reviews after they compared this other weak chicken sandwich place to Howlin Rays and said it’s a good alternative. Prob got paid to say that.

    They "almost" equal now.
    Back then, NYC did have more Chinese regional styles than LA, but I think since the last 6 years or so... you can find them in SoCal too.
    SoCal has a ton of variety with other Asian cuisines...Korean, Thai, FIlipino and Vietnamese...but you can find it somewhere in NYC metro now.

    Great review and observation between the two. I’m in LA and I’m very particular about the Asian food culture. I appreciate your thoughts and you’re right that It is very different between the two cities, however, IMO, it’s mainly about great branding and the story behind it, but mostly it’s about region. Nice work.

    Gosh! I would love to follow you guys around on a "food day" just to eat the same delicious meals! My mouth just waters when I see you try all of those different restaurants. It is the comfort food I grew up with as well. ;) My maiden name was Wong. Canadian-born Chinese...a CBC. :) My father owned a restaurant which was the best Chinese food in town 40 years ago. So much competition now...it's a different time. Restaurants have to be more creative & have delicious food to keep them coming back. Those drinks look fabulous! We don't have anything like that here. We have many "bubble tea" shops but nothing like that. I love ice cream even though I'm a little lactose intolerant. I would love to try that bakery. Ramen is my absolute favorite...:) The noodles are very different looking in each of those bowls.

    I will have to say California. We have the largest pan Asian community in the US. From Torrance/Gardena/Little Tokyo (Japanese cuisine), Chinese cuisine (SGV west side)/Taiwanese cuisine (SGV east side), Thaitown (Thai cuisine), Koreatown/Diamond Bar/Rowland Heights/SGV east side, Little Saigon/OC (Vietnamese cuisine) etc. New York has Chinatown and some borroughs with regional pan Asian foodie items. However, this is not the case in LA. SGV alone is about 25 miles wide, and if you include the OC area, that is easily another 30 miles south. We do not have "towns," we have suburbs of amazing Asian cuisine. The volume is on the west coast by a long shot. Also, LA is significantly larger by area than NYC. No comparison in my opinion. I don't know if people realize just how large the Metropolitan Los Angeles area is.

    L.A. seems to be creative risk takers, they tend to have a lot of fusion and blending of food styles and cultures. It reflects the people and region and times. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. But I appreciate that. I haven’t explored much of New York but it seems that they are good for cheap eats and more traditional and some modern styles, but it seems it can get stagnant. They are kinda like a time capsule of people who immigrated. But I haven’t explored New York as much (due to Covid) so I could be missing stuff.

    • @quason9889
      @quason9889 Před 3 lety

      Pretty on point take tbh. It generally is the case for NYC if you're talking about Manhattan's Chinatown. Flushing is kinda heading towards where LA is at now with the influx of different regional Chinese cuisines and hipper spots. Never been to LA before, but as a New Yorker, LA looks hard to beat.
