#pokemon #pokémonGold #pokemonchallenge - Hry
Do you ever imagine someone looking through the old records of the hall of fame and doing a double take at the sight of a single Shuckle?
There's probably like 130 mdb runs lol and he probably goes "oh it's this guy again"
@@Pikachu_25_ At what point does a Hall of Fame council look into MDB's successes as a possible performance enhancing 'product' scandal?
"The Pokemon League council prides itself on the legitimacy of the Hall of Fame inductees. We are dedicated to reviewing and confirming that all entries are legitimate, or we will deliver legal recourse as necessary. While we do not have any updates at this time, MDB is cooperating with league officials to confirm he competed in good faith." haha
@@Pikachu_25_ I specifically remember a phanpy run comment where a defeated elite four member walks over to the next elite four and goes
“It’s him. He’s back.”
“Oh god what is it this time?”
“A phanpy… a goddamn phanpy.”
I am sad there is no fossil to take on your way so that I can ask you which one you took.
lol
Now that you mention it, ask anyways. Comments are good for the CZcams algorithm.
What are you talking about?! There were some fossils to pick up. (Wink wink nudge nudge, funny comments help the algorithm joke)
do you think people will ask about it anyways in the comments?
Could he get the Old Amber from Pewter City? 🤔🦕
Don't Fuckle with Shuckle!
As stupid as this thing is I can't help but love it.
Fuckling with Shuckling is bad for the CZcams algorithm
"Then Espeon came out and put the fear of God into me" This single line had me laughing so hard I had to pause the video. God MDB your scripts and writing keep getting better every challenge, absolutely loved the whole ride.
Same!
Agreed.
Absolutely, has me laughing out loud for real.
absolutely same
I was coming here to say the exact same thing 😂
Shuckle got a massive power boost in Sword and Shield. He can now get Infestation as an egg move. While it does do a little bit more than wrap on the initial hit, it is also bug type which nothing is immune to.
And it's also same Type for the bonus damage!
Crack it's health up to 50 and this thing will strike fear in the hearts of millions
Or better yet, give it an useless evolution just let us use an eviolite set
If Rhydon never does anything to you maybe you should consider doing a run with it.
A Rhyhorn-only challenge would be dope, tho. Like the Onix challenges but less agonizing.
It's time for *Cyrus voice* RRRRRRRRHINO!
It's really not that weak.
It lacks stab early on the in the early gens, and it's super weak to specially attacking water and grass types, but it's got great attack, high defense, and great STAB moves.
There's certain bosses in different games that would be hard for it, but overall it'd make for some pretty easy challenge runs.
JRose, Squidgy and MDB all doing Shuckle in the same week..? Can't be a coincidence! *X-File Theme plays*
JRose's Shuckle video was 2 years ago.
Man, you really missed out on the Defense Curl + Rollout combo. You definitely wouldn't need to reach level 100 with that.
It is a delight with a shuckle run, I did mine a few weeks ago and that was half of my strategy LOL! I wish I could remember the end game level but it was under 90 for sure, hard to believe Shuckle was fun for me.. and togepi made me pull my hair out against red LMAO
You might want to look into damage thresholds for more efficient attempts at bosses. According to Scott's Thoughts, the most important levels to change damage calcs are ones that end in 3, 5, 8 or 0, so if you are going to just grind attempts hoping for good RNG like you did on Bugsy, those levels are the best ones to do it. In at least a few of your runs you have actually noticed the jump because you mention how you 'randomly' do a lot more damage at those levels occasionally.
MDB - "Don't worry Shuckle! We can do anything with the power of -Return- Friendship!"
JROSE11 - "Rollin' Rollin' Rollin'..."
I cannot imagine doing shuckle and avoid rollout, I just cannot LMAO it's SO slow..
Struggle and Rollout are key to this run
It was a hell of a sight to see that sailor transform into a pidgeot at 20:04
MDBAMA
What's been your favorite Pokemon challenge run so far? Or, if someone's all ready asked you that, uhh... do you have a favorite candy bar, or other preferred snack?
Wow, Squidgy and MDB posting Shuckle runs almost in unison, love when that happens, because we get to see how different/similar the approaches to finishing the game are.
Glad I’m not the only one who noticed! It was interesting to see MDB not use struggle early on. Would have made the start somewhat easier
Watching Squidgy's run before this run has me extremely confused why rollout wasn't utilized in this run lol
MDBAMA
Has there ever been a Pokemon Challenge which you have thought of doing a few times but never actually went around doing it cuz its either extremely time consuming or you genuinely believe it to be impossible ?
I wonder if he's scrapped any Pokémon challenges he's worked on
Wanna see Heracross only run.
Heracross is actually pretty cracked
It’d def be fun to see preburn strats with Guts in a Heracross run
I doubt we will get a proper "Heracross" run but its a possibility that we will get a " First form Bug pokemon run " in gen 2 like we did for Kanto and Heracross would be a great candidate for that
I doubt he has, but a good question regardless.
No Toxic until Kanto... Ouch.
Don’t fuckle with the Shuckle
Shuckle runs are always so good because of just how niche Shuckle's stats are
This is BRUTAL. Later generations he gets a move that swaps his defense and attack turning him into a beast.
There's also Body Press, Gyro Ball, and either Curse or Contrary Shell Smash.
@@drascia mhm. shuckle in gen 2 may look weak but he gains strength later
MDB: Is there any TM I want in Johto other than Return?
Me: Well Headbutt, Rollout, Dig and Sludge Bomb are all nice enough moves available there.
sludge bomb would have been kinda nice just for the 30% poison up until he got toxic
Yeah I was thinking sludge bomb would have been good too.
Rollout would have been great for Lance, he really missed out
On our way through, I battled Youngster Joey. I knew if I didn’t say what I took, you’d all ask. Actually, now that I think about it, everyone asks anyway. Comments are good for the CZcams algorithm.
"Why do we even learn Bide?" --I think that classic pokemon were given movepools that would represent their typical, on-theme, animal behaviors. Behaviors which are often entirely redundant if not useless in combat. An infamous example of this design philosophy would be how the hyper-quick Zapdos learns Agility.
Every time I see Shuckle, all I can think of are these sprite animations I watched a while back, that had a super self-confident Shuckle who'd proudly announce himself every time he appeared. He was also rather unfortunate - he ended up in Hell at one point - but he never lost his cool, mostly because he was so dim =P
it's so fun to see how differently one can apporach exactly that type of challenge. did it 2 years ago and and man did i follow a way different approach, especially with miltank and timing the rollout against the ghost's curse so the curse cannot trigger any damage between turns :o
I'm glad you pulled through in time to release this on my birthday. It makes it that much better to watch.
Fun story; as a kid I played one battle against another kid in Gen2 and sent out my Shuckle first. It bore Roll Out, Toxic, Sandstorm and Swagger.
It swept.
Always awesome watching your content man.
I got into your videos back when Covid first started and I got hooked. Keep up the amazing work 😊
I haven’t watched the video, but for the final set I can see it being
Toxic
Wrap
Protect/rollout
Sandstorm
Item: leftovers
The question is not "Can I beat", but "How FAST can I beat all puny pokemon with the best of bois".
I'm really hoping you'll eventually do a Combee only run! Combee is my favorite bug type pokemon, even though it's unusable in Diamond.
(7:14) Actually, Fury Cutter has 95% accuracy, so only a 1/20 chance of missing. (You might've been thinking of Rollout's 90% accuracy when you said "1 in 10" there.)
(8:06) Oh, geez... 47 attempts when you're at more than double Scyther's level...
(10:16) If you're already Cursed, then you do take damage from it on turns that you're underground. But, Curse can't hit you if you're already underground when it's used.
(16:05) 348 Def and 340 SpDef are certainly something.
(23:17) And that's game!
hey MDB
thanks a lot for your challenges, it's always fun to watch them.
As for the dv chart, you were right that it was a decent shuckle, but ideally you would want high dvs in the stat you are already good at, because it makes a bigger difference. If you look at ranges your stats can get to, you realize that the range for higher stats are greater than the ranges with low stats. Even if you need your attack and speed for the challenge, you should keep that in mind. The same goes for natures in later games
MDBAMA
So, I'm curious - what is your stance on accuracy debuffing moves for solo challenges> This is written on your Shuckle solo - when I did the run, I ran into the same challenges (stopped hard by Scyther) and decided Flash was a perfectly acceptable alternative to avoid overleveling. Compared to evasion strategies, it is difficult to use in a large Pokemon battle (not enough uses to debuff entire teams).
I just wanted to comment and say that I love your videos, and am quite looking forward to this one since Shuckle is my favourite Pokemon
It’s 1 AM for me. I should be asleep.
But then this video popped up in my feed. The Fire Red Shuckle run is my favorite of your videos, so I HAD to stay up and watch this.
Who's ready for an insanely slow challenge? I am
I'm surprised you never used rollout, it didn't seem to matter since you did super well with what you had, but given how early the game gives it to you I was expecting some rollout sweeps
Khimyra has great shorts! They're comfy and easy to wear!
Some time ago a poketuber by name of Scott's Thoughts released a program that allowed for solo runs like this to be more easily customisable. I'm not aware of exactly what it entails but it may help you set up your solo runs as EVs and natures go. Or you could ask him directly, man to man, he's a very nice guy.
MDB: we’re coming up to another nightmare scenario
Me, nodding: fury cutter
MDB: Gastly
Me: OH NO
Thank you for the comfy videos :)
Good ol' Shuckle! Shuckling up a storm here! If Shuckle had an evolution, I bet he'd get a ton of spoons.
MDBAMA while you were away I tried to watch lots of videos to help suppose you but I want to know. Does sitting through the whole ad help get you paid more? Other than Super thanks or patreon what helps more- watching more mins of videos or letting ads play through?
Your strategy with Shuckle at the end there reminded me of my first Moon playthrough where I had to do something very similar with one of the kahunas. My entire team was extremely weak to the kahunas ace and kept getting destroyed in one hit, save for my Pyukumuku. I Toxic'd, Rested, and Countered until that living hell was finally over. I don't remember how long it took, but it felt like eternity. Before that, it took me around 45 minutes to even get the Pyukumuku to spawn so I thank the gods I found my Friend (his nickname).
Shuckle and Pyukumuku are Toxic & Rest strat buddies 5ever.
Also, "Then Espeon came out and put the fear of God into me". Amazing. 10/10
Great challenge MDB. You should take it easy on yourself next week after 2 brutal challenges
For the F3 run you'll want to do "the pit" to get the infiltrator. Its a silenced scoped assault rifle. There is also a unique version by collecting steel ingots that's a buffed version.
MDB hearing your voice brings me so much joy ❤
I like to imagine that last battle is going on in a stadium, and the entire audience is watching that shuckle go to sleep over and over and over again.
Riveting.
Shuckle is one if my favorite pokemon :)
He's gets allot better once he gets stuff like infestation
On the Lance fight did you consider holding a MysteryBerry for the PP restore?
sweet run, Shuckle is cool.
What an amazing run. Well done again for another Shuckle run. Shroomish in Fire Red/Emerald?
Missed a chance to grab a Qwilfish for the awesome combo of "Juvi and the blowfish"
That got pretty thrilling at the end. XD
Bro I love this video!!!!
2 seconds in this video and I'm already thinking, aight defence curl and rollout it is 😂😂😂
Not only is it a heatwave, but here in Alaska it’s also fire season, so cheers to staying inside so I don’t die to the smoke lol
A Shuckle run without rollout? Blasphemy
You beat red?! Wow Shuckle did what I thought impossible. Stall tactics work, shouldn't have been surprised
Would love to see you do a Gen 1 run with your favourite/preferred team. I know you would beat iteasy. But think just be a nice easy run for you to complete and actually enjoy it. 😂
MDBAMA !
are there any games / game series that you want to do challenge runs for but aren't sure if there's an audience for?
i've been loving all the elder scrolls and fallout challenges and i'm at the very least aware of Dragon's Dogma having interesting challenge runs, and your pacing has always been excellent with introducing new games to do for challenge runs, so it'd be a joy to see :)
We've been having to deal with workers in the house a lot recently, so I feel for you there. It took forever to get our carpet replaced upstairs cause they wouldn't respond to my parents' calls in a timely manner, and then when they DID install the carpet they could only do part of it because only part of it had arrived...😅 Glad that's over.
Anyway, gotta admit, watching this was brutal. I knew Shuckle had some bad stats but holy crud. Like only having 100 HP at Level 51, when most Pokémon would have twice as much at that point. Not a challenge I would enjoy.
It also occurred to me you could counteract having to rely on Rest so much by having Shuckle hold a Berry that would wake you up immediately, so you could still attack. But there's only one such Berry in Gen 2, apparently, called the Mint Berry. And it can only be found on Route 39 and in Pewter City. So probably not that helpful. Besides, if you aren't using items in battle, an item like Leftovers makes much more sense.
That was surprising, I thought shuckle would have struggled more
I'm surprised at how smooth that run went after the early game hurdles.
Ah, shuckle=) Thank you for a great video=)
So, a bit of explanation as to how Pokemon handles stat buffs and debuffs. Essentially, it takes a fraction and increases either the numeratornor denominator as you accumulate buffs and debuffs, with no buffs or debuffs being 2/2. If you gain a buff while the denominator (bottom number) is 2, the numerator (top number) increases, up to a maximum of 8 (8/2, or a 4 times modifier). Meanwhile, if you get a debuff and the numerator is 2, the denominator increases, to a maximum of 8 (2/8, or a 0.25 times modifier). Note that, if a buff is used while the denominator is not 2, the denominator is decreased instead of increasing the numerators. The same is true for debuffs and the numerator. Accuracy and Evasion are a little different, using a 3/3 modifier at neutral.
To show an example:
-Shuckle starts a battle with 28 defense and a 2/2 defense modifier.
-Shuckle uses Defense Curl, increasing its modifier to 3/2. Shuckle's defense is treated as 42 (unless he gets crit, where the modifier is ignored).
-If an opponent uses, say, Tail Whip, it would decrease Shuckle's modifier back to 2/2.
-If Tail Whip was used again, the modifer would become 2/3. Shuckle's defense would plummet to 14.
-Of course, using Defense Curl again would increase that back to 2/2.
As for why Pidgeotto did 2 damage regardless... Well, the way the formula uses Attack and Defense is also in a fraction- specifically, Attack/Defense- which is then multipled and divided by other values (I'll show the Gen 2 one below). Assuming Pidgeotto's Attack stat is, at least 10, any value rolled would be rounded to 2. Even with a critical hit.
((((((2 x Level)/5)+2) x MovePower x (Attack/Defense))/50) x HeldItemBoost x Critical + 2) x Other x Random
HeldItemBoost is the bonus for type-enhancing held item.
Other is anything that applies a multiplier to attacks, like Weather, STAB, badges (if you have a badge that is the same type as your Pokemon), type effectiveness, and move-based modifiers (such as successive hits from Triple Kick or Rollout's bonus from consecutive hits and Defense Curl).
Random is a random variable between 0.85 and 1, though it is always 1 for the moves Flail and Reversal.
HA! juvi... cuz hes got the juice. as a wrestling fan i chuckled hard at that
“Beat the biker on first try and only lost 2/3s of our health”
This is gonna be fun
You should pay attention to levels at damage rounding thresholds, levels that end in 3, 5, 8 and 0 will round to the higher integer thus doing more damage.
I haven't finished watching yet, but you earned my like at 47 attempts at the 2nd gym. Not sure why I said that way when you frequently get my likes.
20+ years playing this franchise and it's the first time I've heard gym leaders referred to as 'bosses' and levels referred to as 'skill levels'
MDB reinventing the lore.
I do refer to major fights as bosses, but I wasn't talking about level ups when I said skill levels
There are no EVs in GSC, there is Stat Experience which cap at 65535 for each stat, even at lvl 100 they're often not maxed out.
Thst run went better than I expected. As for suggestions I'm still holding out for Pokemon gold/silver with a single Murkrow
SHUCKLE!!! Its everyone's favorite Pokemon! I wonder what he's going to evolve into....yeah.....maybe i'll have three heads.....any time now.....just waiting to evolve......
I was thinking about a run idea. Only using multi turn moves. Examples; Bide, solar beam, sky attack, dig, ect.
Finally, a new fridge!!!!
"if the strategy I have in mind works out" vs "if the strategy I have in mind ends up working out".
I see you going off script, MDB!
YAY SHUCKLE! I know he isnt that good, but I still adore the little guy ❤
Remember kids, in the immortal words of Dookieshed don't fuckle with Shuckle
Thas nice and all, but which fossil did you take?
A fun, but also different challenge. Try playing through a gen 5 game with only pokemon that start with vowels. So start with Oshawott and find more pokemon starting with vowels.
*_SHUCK._*
Requesting Pokemon B2W2 With Only One Chinchou.
The other day I saw someone doing a HGSS Shuckle run 😝 It was much easier than this run because of Shuckle's better learnset in Gen 4.
Challenge idea Sleep only run.
You have to use rest or another way to go to sleep and attack with either snore or sleep talk. I'm interested in wat kind of strategy you'd use to win with those restrictions.
Finally a new video
MDBAMA
What's been your absolute favorite runs in your career of challenge runs? Fallout/Oblivion included. I can never get enough of going back to watch your "Poison Type Moves Only" or "Restoration only"
Many surprises here
Squidgy just did this run the other day. So much pain.
i'd be interested to see what you would do with shuckle in hgss, specifically against red bc that fight is VERY different. if you were to do it my suggestion would be to get the tm for sandstorm to replace probably earthquake. i know it's definitely possible to beat hgss red with shuckle using sandstorm bc i've used that strat to beat half of his team with items just bc i felt like it, yes it was the shuckie from cianwood. for those in the comments here who don't know, one of the major problems with red in hgss is at the top of mt silver it's snowing and a whopping 3 of his mons know blizzard which is guaranteed to hit in hail (on top of the constant chip damage you get from hail up there). however, using sandstorm once not only clears the hail away for 5 turns for sand, the hail doesn't come back and nothing on his team knows hail so getting rid of it once solves the problem entirely. i chose sandstorm for my run bc it also boosts shuckie's defenses for a little bit which buys even more time. the trouble though is bc rest and toxic are necessary, what between eq and return do you replace?
You know what they say; "Don't Fuckle With Shuckle."
Man I love Shuckle runs
This Shuckle made me chuckle
YO, I get to explain Gen 2 IV's (DV's in Gen 2)! In case nobody saw me explain it in the Munchlax video (I don't blame you), I did a whole breakdown of how to read a possible IV's chart and this chart is largely the same as the one on Psypokes website. There are a few things to point out:
1. Gen 2 DV's only go as high as 15, so 15 in every stat is a perfect pokemon.
2. Gender is tied to the Attack value in that the gender ratio determines what attack values make it male or female. For example, a 1:1 Gender ratio means any attack value that is 8 or higher is a male, while starter pokemon (7:1) can only be female if the attack is a value of 0 or 1.
3. Not important but I'm a nerd so I'm sharing this. HP is dependent on every other stat to determine it's value. Every other stat needs to be an odd value to get a perfect 15 in HP. Odd attack gives 8 HP, Odd defense gives 4 HP, Odd Speed gives 2 HP, and Odd special gives only 1 HP.
I hope someone reads this and finds any of this actually helpful info or they appreciate seeing this in the comments!
"Trying to make a level 2 Sentret faint" is one of the saddest things I've ever heard, and I don't just mean in Pokemon.
Great video
What abou an Emerald run with beedril and butterfree?
While on the topic of slow pokemon how about gold/fire red with slowpoke. I know you already did red with it but i just like slowpoke
Somebody tell him that Kingdra doesn't have rest. Surf, Dragon Breath, Hyper Beam, and Smoke Screen is what it has.
Maybe he messed up with Juan's Kingdra
@@leonardopapareli5185 That's what I'm thinking
One of my favorite Pokémon
15:48 Yeah, in Gen 2, with no EVs, grinding just gives you more and more stat xp without having to worry about 'maxing out' the wrong stat. That, and all AI 'mon have 0 stat xp, so your trained pokemon are always going to be better than an otherwise identical opponent's. This would be much harder in Gen 3+
if you put the save into pkhex you can see exact ivs/dvs
