As an i8 owner, I would buy another with no hesitation. It's unique having a completely separate electric motor. So you can use an engine swap, but it's still a hybrid. You engine swap any other hybrid and it's a petrol engine.

I always chuckle when people call the current Minis gigantic or houses. I remember the crying when I had my 04 r53 about how it was too big and now look where we are.
The mini has been super fun to play around with. I made an off road version that is amazing in linkups and the hot pursuit online racers. Nice for cutting corners and getting off the road for safety.

WHAT IF: their next hero car, would be a properly modified i8? with an engine swap and everything. they can try to keep the essence of the M3 GTR with a livery and a wing, but this car with the E60/E62 generation V10 would be something potentially iconic IMO

I8 has two independent engines, mate. In sports and manual the petrol engine works with the electric, and it goes pretty fast.

I had an i8 a few years ago before getting my E63 and the I8 actually was not a bad car to drive combined when tuned with about 550hp was wild

I'm sticking by what i've always said. It's gorgeous from the front, god awful from the rear and sideview. And i wouldnt have minded a 3cyl aslong as the 3cyl was actually doing something and didnt have like 150hp. A for example turbo'd 3 cyl making 300hp with an extra 200hp in electric engines would have been good imo
I like both. The rear is a pain to clean, you have to use an air blower to dry around the lights and all the hard to reach areas. The boot is cool.
The Prius is an economy car because it's I4 was an Atkinson cycle engine. It made like 80hp where the mini turbo 3 pot made about that much with just the EV bits and I think 200ish from the engine
I'm still so disappointed that they made such an awesome looking supercar only to decide that it needs the most poo-poo of engines.

They made it in line with a vision and stuck to that in production. The concept and real life cars are similar.

I love the i8 for the idea of pulling together hybrid tech to make a sports car. it was aiming at the 911, not the Ferrari F40. It missed, obviously. But like the i3, I love what they attempted, how unique it is in every way. The i8 is a respactabe weight, small, drives well, looks phenomenal and has a battery the size of the one in my citroen Ami. The only comparisons it has are to the NSX, which was a LOT heavier, more expensive and cannot be plugged in or drivern pure electric, and the Corvette E Ray which literally JUST released. IDK. I have a turbo Megane RS, i love it. I have an electric Ami, I love that too. That DERANGED torque response that is only possible with EV Motors must make the i8 so interesting. and thats sorta why i love it

I need to clear the misconception that Theo said in around 5:08. I first heard Mat Watson from Carwow say that, and now this guy. The engine in the i8 was not from the Mini because the i8 was the first car to use the B38 turbocharged engine. The Mini was the second car to use this motor. I'm sure some people knew this already, but for the people that don't, here you go.
The BMW i8 was actually the car that completely broke my game for an entire two Volumes, and I couldn't play again until Vol. 4, so needless to say, I absolutely despise it.
