At like this point what is the justification for top pro leagues and series not being co-ed? We just don't wanna give money to anyone not a dude or what? Only material "determinant" of pool ability is money/class to begin with (advanced tutelage, pool hall memberships, entrance fees, leisure time) and whether interest in the sport was cultivated as a kid (far more encouragement for boys then girls).
Race to 5 in 9ball for pros is pretty much a gamble. The game is a boring routine and the only "exciting" part for them is the good roll on a break. This has no future.
The pockets are tighter, but they need to make them tighter still, there's no way you should be able to have the object ball hit the rail 1 foot from the pocket and still go in.

Hey. I'll throw my 2 cents in. I think the pockets should be 4 3/4 inches with a deep shelf. That way it's just slightly over 2 balls width. This isn't snooker and isn't meant to be. There gets a point where the pockets are to tight and the cloth to fast and balls to reactive. When the pockets get to tight there are several niche shots in pool that no longer go. Like in One Pocket it becomes almost impossible to do ball extractions from the other guys pocket. The balls are so reactive and the cloth is so ridiculously fast you don't need the stroke to play well like you used to. You can stroke so much slower and easier now. Of course the harder you shoot your accuracy drops. 40 years ago when breaking, hit it and hope was necessary bc of the equipment. Now you can blow on the ball and go from end rail to end rail. I agree with Jason about the shelf depth. Had a Diamond at my pool room. It was deep shelved. All the others had same pocket width and cut. But that deep shelved one, you had to shoot pure or it wasn't taking the shot. Players have gotten so good, 9 ball is a joke at the pro level now. Rotation, straight pool and One Pocket are much better games imo. Yes I'll say it, get rid of jump cues. It takes away from the defensive aspect of the game. Yes it's great skill to use one, but ruins the defense and kicking aspect. I'm 49 years old. I'll crawl back to my cave now. Lol
