Doctors are so worried about risks yet not at all worried about the risk of living with NO QUALITY OF LIFE. It's so difficult to carry on when the impacts are so devastating on life. I told my endocrinologist the other day that "what I have right now is WORSE than cancer, because it is almost killing me every single month when, I am at my worst." Treat what I am coming to you for please. Your information is the best and has definitely helped me advocate for myself and feel knowledgeable in what I am saying.. ❤️❤️

I am so grateful to doctors like you who are bringing this knowledge to the public. It's shocking how little education is provided on this...I can't help thinking that if men suddenly lost all their testosterone when they turned 50, the medical community (and society in general) would have taken the topic seriously a long time ago! Thank you both again...

I agree and we shouldn’t have to seek to be able to find this information, it should be actively promoted and available on the NHS. This is vital information to enable us to live our lives with health and knowledge that taking HRT is safe and the health benefits outweigh the risks. I will be writing to the health secretary as this needs to be on their health agenda!

Testosterone and Estrogen have both been traditionally demonized due to their association with analogous compounds that have been used for cheating in sports and some debunked but popular studies. I'm on feminizing HRT and my endocrinologist has me on estradiol patches and cyproterone; the standard of care requires that I have to take a liver toxic testosterone blocker to mitigate the risk of blood clotting due to Estradiol 17 Beta absorbed slowly through my skin. And I'm not sure if crushing my testosterone into the ground this way is necessarily healthy either.

It is a disgrace that you had to bully your doctor as NICE guidelines are that if you request HRT from your doctor that it should be prescribed that benefit outweigh the risk. I cannot stop HRT as each time I do my symptoms comeback with a huge whoosh. The first time I stopped my young female dr pushed me into stopping, I tried to stay off but my symptoms did not stop after almost a year and I was almost 60. I heard about NIce guidelines and of course requested and quoted NICE guidelines, she reluctantly prescribed them My equilibrium returned. I am almost 70 now still working for necessity but do wonder will my symptoms of sweeping boiling hot flushes from my stomach and then almost immediately temperature dropping feeling freezing cold that would then leave me feeling faint, ever stop.

I’m 49 and have suffered awful peri-meno symptoms (ticking off most of the long list) along with very heavy periods for several years. Feeling like my life was over and like id aged 20 years in 5! No more joy is the perfect description of how I feel. I had no idea you could get HRT before the ‘official’ menopause starts when periods stop. That could have prevented me suffering all these symptoms for years. I wish you were my NHS drs! Have been back and forth reporting to my GP and even a Dr with menopause specialism at a local gynae clinic for past few years, but still have learned more from this one video and having watching Davina McCall’s Channel 4 documentary on menopause that I watched in May this year. Highly recommended viewing btw. Thanks so much to you both and Davina for bringing this into the light and helping so many women to understand and improve their health 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Thank you Dr. Newsom, for these informative videos. I am 51 and have been suffering since April with non-stop hot flashes and merciless drenching night sweats that had been robbing me of 3-4 hours of sleep each night. I eat super healthy, mostly vegan with no alcohol or processed foods. I lift weights twice/week and run 10 miles/week. I am the picture of health, but my GP said no HRT for me because my sister had breast cancer (I’ve no other family history of cancer). I toughed it out for 8 months. After seeing your informative videos, I asked for a referral to a gyn, who took one look at the dark blue bags under my eyes and put me on the climara patch a couple weeks ago. it’s starting to kick in. My mum died at 66 of a heart attack and I have been worrying about that so the fact that it reduces the risk of heart disease is great. The main thing for me was when you talked about the health benefits because I had never thought about that and that we are living with a deficiency which is easily remedied. We think about the symptoms, not realising there is more to it than that. I have now spoken to my gp and am due to see her to start my treatment. Same in Ontario (Canada) only certain private “alternative” healthcare practitioners, naturopaths, integrative medicine doctors or gynecologists who specialize in hormones provide such care, BUT at a VERY STEEP PRICE. Most people cannot afford their services so you’re stuck fighting with your GP or regular gynecologist who are covered under our Healthcare insurance for visits, not the actual hormone prescription.

3 years post TAH and every menopause symptom going. I’ve never complained about it though, just believed that I needed to get through it naturally without HRT because of the breast cancer risks. Well, I know what I need to do now and I will definitely be doing it. I look after my body in other ways, such as eating a healthy diet, exercising and keeping my mind stimulated and I wish that I’d had this information straight after my TAH. So glad this came up on my feed today, hopefully this will be a game changer for me. The brain fog, forgetting words, hot sweats, night sweats, will hopefully be a distant memory in a few weeks. Having hormonal symtoms for some 5 years, tried many holistic treatments, which I do feel have helped, I convinced myself not to seek medical help due to the fear surrounding HRT. Now I am in menopause, although symtoms around hot flushs, mood, vaginal dryness have reduced due to my lifestyle and holistic choice, my joint pain has not. looking at this medical advice makes me so happy that there are HRT medics that are sharing this information. These two GP’s put most other GP’s to shame. I had a Gp who flatly refused me HRT several times. Even though I was super suffering. How many other women suffered at the hands of these doctors. All doctors should be forced to do a crash online course to bring them up to speed on this subject matter. That how serious I take the menopause. My EX GP prescribed a beta blocker for hot flushes. It did nothing to improve menopause symptoms. Thankfully I am now on HRT but I still think it needs tweaking. And I do not feel like I am dying any longer.👍❤️👍🇬🇧

As I got older and also she, she would always say she was a terrible mom to me but didn’t know why as I was a good kid. Now I understand!

Such a useful and conclusive video, thank-you! Testosterone does seem to be the missing piece of the jigsaw, but so difficult to get (I hope this changes) Not that easy to get HRT, my advice to anyone is to go to your Dr with a shopping list of what you would like to try and a long list of every single symptom - then prepare for battle and do not be fobbed off until you get to try HRT. Once on HRT you will need to experiment with doses, until you find what works for you. Good luck all and don't give up 👍

Omg, ive had every single symptom mentioned for well over ten years and not one doctor has ever mentioned being perimenopausal. Ive gone from perimenopausal to menopuasal in 7 years and suffered alone. I spoke to a gp after I watched the programme on menopause by Davina McCall a few months ago and after 2 lots of blood tests I proved to be estrogen deficient and so ive now been advised to go on HRT patches, which im now started this week. Im hoping to be feeling a lot better. Sadly gps in general for decades have been so uncaring and unsupportive to womens well-being and so very quickly dismissed. Thankfully there's more information out there but to honest so much more should be done.
Men being informed and educated in this matter is seriously important. Loving understanding and supporting your partner will encourage a more loving relationship. 😀

Great to learn about Oestrogel and Oestrodose. With this knowledge I was able to raise this with my GP and asked her to actually write Oestrogel on the prescription. Interesting she said that would be ok as the cost is the same...just goes to show they’re all for prescribing the cheaper stuff unless you specifically ask for what you want! Even the pharmacy tried to fob me off until I told them the PIP number and where they could obtain supplies. Knowledge is definitely power. Thank you Louise for the amazing work you do to provide better education for us women do we are empowered. I now share my findings with my work colleagues and friends. The information has helped me not only daring to take HRT as I had been scared off, due to the breast cancer scare but it also helped me ask my GP for the best solutions and in genera know more about and understand all the various symptoms. I have been on HRT just over 2 months and sleep has dramatically improved. I have also used the Balance app to track my symptoms and it seems. I still have joint pain on a daily basis as well as foggy brain and not sure if this requires testosterone to improve...so thankful for what you are doing.

The past two years have been awful for me, the worst symptoms being terrible insomnia, anxiety, brain fog, lack of concentration and night sweats. I was very worried about being able to keep working. Somehow I hadn’t put all of these things together. Life just seemed like such a pointless drag.
I’ve started HRT now and *already* feeling better.
The sweating was the first thing to level out, what a relief! I feel calmer and my mental capacity has gone back up a notch already. This after only only 10 days!!

I was just getting my hotflashes followed by anxiety and i was frantically looking for some respite in youtube and i found this video. Listening to these awesome doctors really helped me to calm down a bit. Thank you for acknowledging that these issues we are facing are real since most of us are made to feel that it doesn't exist and it is all in the mind. Its like either ur menopausal or not . There is nothing like perimenopause and transition which is really sad . I am 42 and i got ny first panic attack this year with anxiety and slight fluctuations on the cycle days like from 28 to 24 and again 27 back and forth. I get hotflashes every month now with worrysome feelings. But still no one seems to listen or accept what I am going through.. this is so crazy and sad. Why is women's health specially perimenopause and menopausal health so much neglected throughout the world? Even women themselves do not like to address this.

I’m watching this on behalf of my mother. We need more channels and platforms like this to challenge the narrative about the ‘risks’ of HRT. If you look at the ‘studies’ reviewed in the NICE technical appraisal on HRT you’ll see that an overwhelming amount are so poorly designed, poorly powered, lack control, decent tenure, are retrospective studies and we must absolutely be aware that ‘association’ can not inform on ‘risk’.
HRT for women and Testosterone for men should be made available for those who need it and the dose should be based on symptom resolution, not numbers from a one-off blood test.
    Thanks for this video.

Extremely useful as I am currently taking HRT and my symptoms became worse and I was unaware of the increase in treatment until I contacted my GP who has prescribed an uplift in my treatment. Most women don’t realise that their menopause will change and my GP initially never mentioned symptoms getting worse or stated that there would be a review of my treatment. I only went back to my GP after speaking to other women so this is very hit and miss.

Absolutely fantastic information. Why are GPs not taught about menopause to this level. It would save so much money on the NHS . Woman would be feeling so much healthier and able to do so much more. I wonder what the Statistics are of woman having to have given up work in their 50s when deep down they didn’t want to. Due to menopause they became so Inconsistent with energy levels and suffering so bad with health issues. . Yet there wasn’t any need for that to have happened at all.
yes I was also one who thought HRT would increase cancer. Doctors ended up giving any old thing without knowing what they were doing. So I Had to take my self of to a sexual health clic to get help which was many years down a line, I he was someone who understands menopause. Yet his hands were tied. He wasn’t able to give me full treatment because it was a sexual health clic not menopause help. Never had I been so along. I so wish I could visit you guys.

Thank you, I wish mor GPs were as knowledgeable as you both. My GPs wouldn’t entertain the idea of menopause until periods completely stop. Didn’t even ask me or talk to me about peri-menopause. I did my own research as I often do, and discovered so much more, but those experiences with GPs was incredibly demoralising and disappointing, treating me as if I was imagining things. Interesting as soon as I mention I’m a psychotherapist their approach changes... and I really don’t think it should be this way. It would be helpful if GPs listened to their patients more whilst using their own discretion to work with the patient.

I m listening again to this after a Hysteropathy and am upping my dose of oestrogen gel again with vaginal utrogestran as I got my symptoms back. I was crying suddenly, not sleeping again and felt terribly anxiety. I need my hormones to live independently and work on in this world of equality it is essential for me to remain self supporting. Without my hormones I can’t. I would not want to be disabled in later life by lack of hormones. And the fact that 75% of menopausal women are obese and suffer osteoporosis and dementia which can be prevented is criminal. This is a huge failing on the part of UK gov that they raised the retirement and state pension age for women and have not expanded healthcare provision for women. We can’t work with the debilitating symptoms of the menopause. If I didn t have hormones then I would be useless
