Anclote Key Fishing Report - Inshore Fishing (Redfish, Snook, Trout)

- Anclote Key is a small barrier island on the Gulf coast of Florida (about an hour drive north of Tampa).
I actually first learned about this key by peering out of the window of a Delta flight from Tampa to Atlanta and just couldn't stop wondering what type of fish I could catch along the shorelines of that beautiful island out in the Gulf.
It has a nice white sandy beach along its west shoreline, and it's east shoreline is full of nice healthy seagrass.
This "Anclote Key fishing report" video shows the fun we had on our exploration trip to that area.
During this fun day, we had the pleasure to meet and fish with Chris Clark, who has won multiple Strong Angler Challenge tournaments.
And we ended up finding a lot of great fish (mostly trout, redfish, and snook).
Best of all, we had some unique experiences including a rod that got taken overboard by a trout... which was later tracked down and caught.
Plus, a formidable situation involving getting stuck in knee-deep mud while wearing flip flops (bad combo).
And for anyone who is looking to improve their ability to catch redfish, snook, and/or trout, we offer an online course that guarantees results.

So cool seeing you guys fishing in my back yard. I fish at the Anclote river park almost every day. Awesome place to fish.
I don't get to go to the Anclote Island much anymore. Since not having a boat. And at 62 years of age kayaking there is a bit to much for me anymore. But there is a lot of good fish around the Island. Enjoyed the video. Thanks Salt Strong .
question for ya, me and my buddy fish there about every weekend but havent found a good spot to catch any greenbacks or other baitfish, do you happen to know any hot spot where they tend to hang?
Great video. The quick sand part was hilarious.
+Mitchell Barrios Thanks for making time to leave the comment Mitchell. Yes, that bout with the quick sand was funny. I wasn't happy at the time because I though my lucky flip flops weren't going to make it out, but they proved to be survivors and all hands made it back to the ramp safely so I can chalk it off as a fun experience. Fish On!
Killin it guys! Love it!
+Christopher Calvo Thanks Christopher! It was a great place to fish, and the water was crystal clear!
+Salt Strong I know, talk about beautiful conditions! I think this is going to be one of the better summers for fishing in the Tampa/St. Pete area.
NICE VIDEO THANKS
love the video
+Bobby Freuler Thanks for making time to leave the nice comment. Fish On!
Jumped approx. 100 lb tarpon while trout fishing on the deep grass east is of the island on 8 lb mono. Fight lasted around 30 min. Was back in the 70s on soft plastic grub. Also caught large spinner sharks on the north sandbar.
That's why I love saltwater fishing so much... never know what will strike next!
What cork knob did you put on your fishing reel handle?
Hey Luke if you're ever going to fish the Anclote river again.

I know this was a long time ago but I love this video... what time of year was this?
It was on April 29th. Here's a link to see the detailed Insider Club report from that trip where we showed exactly where we caught all of the fish and explained why they were holding where they were in case interested: www.saltstrong.com/insiders/insider-exclusive-content/anclote-key-april-2016/
If y'all ever want to come down to Estero Bay or Marco Island, come on down.
Were you using a Pflueger President Limited Edition in this video? If so, what size? Thanks!
One of the reels in this video is a Plueger President Limited Edition (size 30). I'm testing it out against other options for light inshore reels and so far have been impressed.
Salt Strong Awesome, I plan on getting one in that exact size too!
What artificial soft plastic were you using for reds?
I of course match lures to conditions, but the reds shown in this video were caught on gulp jerk shads rigged on a weighted hook... here's a post we did showing the best way to rig them: www.saltstrong.com/articles/gulp-jerk-shad-review/.
I just moved to Pasco down the road from this spot anyone want to share info I’ve been using bobbers or free lining live shrimp
how can I enter the tournaments
