Hey man, I'm really enjoying your analysis of Dark Souls 2 and Elden Ring!
I was drawn to Vendrick and Godfrey's characters as I played each game, each this mighty hero archetype who defines their lordship by the strength of their arms and their will.
I think willpower has a huge role to play in the strength of a Lord, for they must impose their will above all other to rule. Will shapes different ages, as we see from Marika's rule and the beginning of Ranni's age.
In Dark Souls 2 there is much pondering on what age you will make when you succeed the throne, and in Elden Ring you have different ending to compare how your Will impacts the composition of the Elden Ring, and therefore the world order.
I appreciate what you're putting out!

While I agree that Godfrey is a skilled and accomplished warrior, I do not think that these qualities mean he will be a good ruler or king. His desire to control his ferocity by limiting his strength with Serosh is a far more important quality for a deserving ruler. He knew that strength wasn't what was needed to be a good ruler, but a clear mind.

I can definitely see that. The idea is though the we assume the “legend” of Godfrey which may not be 100% true to what he actually is or behaves. The rage could be seen as what led us to beat him too, making us the better ruling candidate. Thanks for checking out the video!

A crown is warranted by strength, but it is maintained through other qualities. It mirrors human history, the first rulers of any state were almost always brutal warlords who built their realms by destroying their peers in war, their subjects and history venerating them as great rulers for their might alone. But an established and secure realm doesn't need such a ruler, in fact a warlike ruler could be its downfall, and so in such ages, reformers, philosophers and generally kind rulers are the ones being venerated.

Hey i thought of smth the other day and wanted to suggest this, the possible Parallel to Rykard and the Old Iron king.
Both are leaders of a powerful military source (Rykard being a Praetor and O.I.K being the commander of Iron Warriors/Soldiers aswell as Alonne knights)
And both discovered an ancient power which is antithesis to the current ruling power (The O.I.K discoverinf Gwyns soul, Vendrick does not like the Gods/ Rykard discovers both the Gelmir Sorceries and the pagan Serpent God within the mountain)
And begin a cruel campaign to kill and torture a class of people (OIK with undead, and Rykard with Erdtree loyalists and sometimes Albinaurics)
Are both consumed by indulgences, and then literally consumed by the cause of them (The OIK by the molten iron he dominated the world with, and Rykard by the Serpent which awakened these urges) and transform into something other than human,
The King becoming the Molten Devil, and Rykard becoming one with the Serpent.
I think like with most of this series, they are very different characters but with very simular foundations. Cruel people in power who would fall from Honor and lose their comrads respect and loyalty, as they descended into such depravity that it literally mutilated their bodies into monsters. Albiet their sanity after this transformation is cloudy at best.
As a die hard ds2 fan i ADORE this series and i woukd love to see you cover this!!
And- not to sound to self important, but if you HADNT previously thought of this(which i doubt ur very good at this) than a shout out to this comment would be rlly appreciated- yknow if you cover it
Anyways again thank you for this series!!!❤👍👍 looking forward always

It takes 5 Giant Souls to defeat a stray Hollow that doesn't even have a soul.
King Vendrick is just like the player character. Vendrick had a low opinion of miracles and gods. In battle, he preferred soldiers who relied only on their own raw strength. Vendrick defeated the 4 Lords who existed in his time and founded the Drangleic Kingdom, which was almost the size of an entire continent, on their graves.
Vendrick brought the Giants to their knees and turned their power into his own. He could easily be a Lord of Cinder if he wanted to. Instead, he sought a new path. He looked into the essence of the soul. We see how powerful Vendrick is even without his soul. Vendrick can use the power of the crowns and literally break the curse with just Vendrick's Blessing.
He is the "Old King of Want". "Shield of an ancient king who was cursed by an all-consuming thirst." Vendrick can do anything if he "wants". He has a power that surpasses even the Gods. He has the most STRENGTH in the entire Dark Souls trilogy, surpassing even Yhorm the Giant and the Gods/Everlasting Dragons.
Imagine how strong Vendrick was in his prime. He is definitely stronger than Gwyn or Manus. Only Ashen One, SOC and Gael can be compared to it.

love your vids, please keep making them! also, do you think you can make some theories on er dlc about miquella? like do you think theres a "miquella" in ds2?

    • @xLevelT
      @xLevelT  Před 6 dny

Probably when the dlc comes out. There are similarities between st Trina and the god quella from ds2 which I will be covering at some point. I am sure once we get the whole picture on miquella trina and the other characters from the dlc there will be lots to compare. I am sure there will be lots of material to work with once the dlc is out. I also wonder if the dlc will be structured like ds2’s three dlcs. Thanks for checking out the vids! I really appreciate it

So this may sound a bit unrelated but hear me out...
So ER has a good deal of inspiration from Celtic cultures and people have said that Godfrey is CúChullain but I disagree.
Firstly and most importantly it is canonical that what calms Godfrey down is a lion and not ***MARIKA'S TITS!*** The first spasm of Setanta (CúChullain before he became the hound of Cullan) was calmed by milk and tits.
Secondly is that Setanta is effectively an incarnation of the god Lugh. Even though, or perhaps because, his father is Lugh. He was also conceived and born three times.
Thirdly Setanta never became a king. He committed murder on a day of prophecy that guaranteed he'd be legendarily powerful but doomed to a short life. In the Táin Bó Cualigne he is younger than 18.
Fourthly he's not really a hero. I mean he's portrayed that way but the man not only cheats on his wife whose father he murdered in order to marry but when training to gain approval he defeats and holds at swordpoint Áine and says he'll only spare her if she bears his child. So rape at swordpoint. But not only that he ends up unwittingly killing the kid. He also serves Conchobhar who forced a pregnant horse goddess to run a race. She then cursed Ulstermen to suffer the pangs of childbirth in winter. Which is why Setanta is the only fighter in the Táin for the most part.
Although on the other hand Godfrey committed genocide so he's not exactly a good guy either.
Lastly though is a warp spasm includes a halo of light, lungs and liver flapping in the throat, limbs bending backwards, knotted joints, a sunken eye and a popped out eye.
Anyways my point being that him being Setanta would undercut the theme of strength without magic or divinity.

Finally someone talking about the impact Gaelic lore had on these games. Heck the other day I found an old philosophy named Sirash or Siroch 😂

I wonder who taught Godfrey that style of fighting? I ask because in my time helping folks I've noticed something and it's a reach. We see Godfrey and Radagon perform very similar moves. Stomps to be specific. Now where do we see a group of people Ritually Stomping? Ancestral Followers. Idk what it is. The flowing techniques and stomps seem loosely connected.

Interesting idea! It might also be just something From wanted to use since there’s the jump button in Elden Ring. I imagine the DLC will delve into how Godfrey became the legend he is in the base game since there is all of this crucible stuff going on based on the trailers we’ve seen. Thanks for checking out the video!
