  • A Palestinian-American Lawyer & Jewish-American comedian break down the latest Palestine-related news with commentary & interviews every week.
This week Lara and Michael sit down with Associate Professor of Law at Queens University, Dr. Ardi Imseis. Dr. Imseis is the author of the UN and the Question of Palestine, a study into what historically went wrong in the UN’s treatment of the question of Palestine since its inception. Dr. Imseis exposes how at various critical moments in the last century, the prevailing international law of the time was flouted by the UN in favor of policy that violated Palestinian rights and democratic principles. The work reminds us how the law can be used as one of many tools, but certainly has its limits. Laws can be oppressive (like the Nuremberg laws, South African Apartheid laws) and the choice to respect them or not is inherently political. We discuss how a lack of accountability for Israel’s violations has only caused the Zionist occupation to become worse and worse over time, what public international law principles require of Israel in terms of reparation for its international wrongs against the Palestinian people, and the handful of current legal efforts brought by Palestinians and their allies to use the law for emancipatory aims including the ICJ case in relation to the illegality of Israel’s presence in the occupied Palestinians territories, a case where Dr. Imseis acted as part of the legal team.

I'll definitely be adding this book to my collection. It seems like a much needed update to Lilienthal's _What Price Israel_ especially when so few other books give much detail on the 1947 Partition vote in the UN.

great stuff and perfect timing! I think this was the first time in some 20 years of supporting the palestinian liberation struggle that I heard the in and outs of the diplomatic backdrop to the partition proposal so clearly defined. Looking forward to reading Dr Imseis' new book.

Great channel, thank you for the important information. I didn’t know the history of Palestine. I understand now the injustices done to Palestinians by their neighbors. Thank you for bringing up such an important history to the public.

Mankind makes laws to benefit those who make those laws. As flawed Mankind, when its laws don't benefit them anymore, their self created laws no longer apply to them-double standards. Just because it's the law doesn't mean it's just. These issues go way back to WWI (Arabs, Ottomans, Britain, etc). "Indeed, mankind is [generally] most unjust and ungrateful." Qur'an 14:34 ⚖️

Very informative! Thank you. At 44:41 min., the quotes read, of the various founders of Israel, are absolutely chilling. These are the historical facts that Israel absolutely does NOT want the public, including their own citizens, to know.
I urge you to publicize these quotes, this great interview and guest very broadly to inform and educate the masses.

So the evidence is there. In the archives, in the writings of politicians, everwhere. Undeniable but ignored because it doesn't fit political goals.

You know, obviously, I do not have the expertise on this topic that Dr Ardi has. But my word, I could read between the lines when I read months ago now about the Balfour declaration and the newly founded UN, mostly made up of countries from the global north in 1947, deciding on the partition of Palestine. The racism, the arrogance of the declining empires of the time, the derision with which the indigenous Palestinians were regarded, the farce of adherence to the fledgling rule of international law (you can already see how this was selective). It screams out at you, what happened.
Palestine WILL prevail and it will be the last nail in the coffin of this supremacist, exceptionalist arrogance and malfeasance of the global north.

The international system has truly failed the Palestinian people, right from it's very conception. And yet it still might be what saves them.

What we have now is what happens, over time, when political sociopaths are afforded adult authority in a society. A political sociopath is someone who is willing to do harm to another for the sake of opportunity, social capital, hierarchy, profit and/or pleasure.

Did the Palestinnians talk and wanted to to talk with unscop investigators? I got the impression that Palestinians did not wanted to talk. Maybe based on the idea that they are right and did not need to defend themselves before an foreign power. Resulting in a onesided report based on only jewish input.

In a lot of discussions people point out to other conflicts in the world and say why dont you protest for them but only against Israël. Its only because you are anti-semitic, hate us and have double standards. What arguments are there against this point of view? A short list will do for me.

      - at first, the "Palestine cause" is there for decades
      - its all over the place 24/7 so you got an almost "livestreamed" genocide happening and see all the pictures 24/7
      - there are the other conflicts/genocides happening and all of them (Sudan/Myammar/DRC..) are absolute cruel/horrific - the thing is in none of these the Western governments supports one side to commit the most cruel atrocities to an almost "unarmed'" / light weaponry
