- I ignore the electronic issues on the engine for a bit to focus on some leaks in the LHM system... and the the electronic stuff sucks me back in!

Hamsters are born to escape, and Citroens are born to leak.
UK watchers have you noticed that Seppo uses English expressions when frustrated?
"This bloody engine is a load of crap!"
He is precious in our lives!!!!
Kitch has a unique sense of humour.........always worth a watch.
Only citroen owners understand the joke : sometimes ignoring a fault fixes it😂
This was exactly my old Renault Megane. Sometimes it would give an ABS system fault light, but the brakes worked just fine. I eventually learned to just ingore it and usually it was gone the next day.
You could have a new series, "Citroën leak of the day". 😂
Congratulations on the live stream with Kitch. Excellent stuff. I would also like to say that the presenter is the most important element of why I choose to watch any video. You are so easy to watch, just like we are having a chat in your workshop. Add that to the unusual stuff you show us makes the perfect channel. Many thanks for all the videos you share with us.
Thank you! first time for me being live in english!... :O
glad to hear that the video was helpful. I also once had a similar problem. the charger only started charging when I revved up. the problem was a broken wire at the end of the charger. Btw that front end is really easy to remove. I can do quick writeup about that when I have time.
i have a manual gearbox 50,000 miles 2.0 liter XM year 1990 if u know anyone needs one
Thanks for your videos man!
I have already had the front off once.. ;)
Was great seeing you on the Livestream yesterday Seppo, and considering you did it not in your native language you completely nailed it! Just helped my friend fix an intermittent speedo issue on a 3.0 XM yesterday here in Sydney, so the dash part was ironically releveant. Such striking cars XM's! Currently working on a 1985 BX TRS we got off the original owner since new and reviving it so it can live again. Have replaced all the return lines, done the timing belt, water pump and new spheres and new power steering seals/boots. Hopefully got rid of all the LHM leaks. Cheers Steve
Thank you! Much fun to be in the charity show with Kitch!
UpnDown has a great Rant video about modern rubber hoses.
An well done on the live stream with Rich.
The fluid doesn't return through that return line on the back of the strut.. .. that hose is for internal leak return when seals inside the strut wear and fluid passes.. when the car sinks fluid returns back via the main feed lines..
Love the journey but also can't wait for the day Niller presents it in showroom condition (if only).
You are doing excellent. I like your cars, especially the W123 Merc and the Cx and this Xm. Ian you and Richard are my favourite youtubers
Chasing electrical gremlins in a French car... rather you than me!
Tbh it wouldn’t have surprised me on a French car if a blown bulb stopped the alternator charging 😂
😂
???? A blown dashboard bulb on the charging circuit would have stopped any car charging pre 1990 ...the bulb makes up the circuit ..
Thats how the circuit actually works! if the bulb on the dash burns the charging circuit is interrupted. My fiat had the same issue
I had the same leak on my V6 Si and it was the easiest one to fix. I just cut around 20mm off the end of rubber hose and pushed it back on and that leak never happened again. Good job the rubber return hose was still in good form as that car was less than 10 years old.
It had numerous other leaks both before and after that - mostly the metal hydraulic lines and even some high pressure lines.
sorry if i sating the obvious, i would have a good look at the engine earths to body where they connect as well as the wires for breaking (hanging on by a tread) may be cause of intermitten running bad and not charging
did my first xm generator for about 25 years ago, ohhh, 10 minutes the generator was out ,change the carbon and in with it , you take the generator out from the right wheel arch.
Once in my youth I was driving home at night and the headlights got weak. Then the radio started to behave strange. It turned out the alternator was not charging. This came without warning just like in your case. The day after I found out the b+ cable was loose, actually the study where it was attached had broke. This failure mode does not trig the charge warning light as it is on "the other side" of the alternator. By the way, it was an Opel Rekord 2100D, 2-door sedan.
Having just watched a set of three videos here where a guy tries, not entirely successfully, to just diagnose an intermittent (and horribly complicated) electronic/programming fault on a 2018 Land Rover Discovery, much of this here today is delightfully analogue, reminding me of the world where anyone mechanically inclined, and armed with basic tools and a Haynes manual could fix anything in a normal car.
Was intrigued by the alternator and battery indicator light issue. As you noted, on some cars including the Saab classic 900, the indicator light in the dash is integral to the charging circuit. On the C900, the indicator light (lamp) is ‘special’ of a higher amperage than the other dashboard lamps - swapping a bulb over won’t work. If you’re sure the battery indicator lamp isn’t burnt out, then mute point but thought I’d throw this out there just in case.
It was funny having the Haynes manual for an XM as after I got rid of the XMs and got a Volvo 940 estate, the Haynes manual for that car was like a pamphlet by comparison.
Re Altinator.. get her up on the ramp, and just check from underneath if the thin exciter cable isn't broken off the back of the altinator. You can easily see the altinator and connections from under the front.. that would be my next check..
Its there and intakt... :(
But you can not see the connections easily! trust me..
I do, and I've had 2 v6, I have another one now as a project and will have another v6 24v project next year..
Sounds like she needs an accumilator sphere when she was pumping up there was a lot of regulator clicking..
nice
Undercoat ur car with Owatrol Oil. It's the best stuff out there and it hardens after penetrating rust and the steel. I paintgun spray it under all my Veteran cars and on old steel rims, they then get a glossy look and you can paint over it if u want too.
If the rust look dry after using it, you need to do it again til u get the shiny look, then its all soaked.
End of the story: it will NEVER EVER rust again from the side you use OWATROL! 😀 (It takes some days to harden)
The restart while warm issue: I would put my money on leaky injectors or coldstart injector. I had the same issue on a Volvo. I could only start it while warm if I opened the throttle fully. The problem went away with new injectors.
Hello. I am installing my own XM. I am interested in the tool between 4.02-5.40s.
Have a nice day.
And epic the livestream was😊 especially the hour with Seppo, thanks for that!
Maybe the thing Kitch said on the earth-block will fix the problem with the alternator. Looking forward to the next one! And the gearbox video of the Merc!
What was tha livestream? Not pn youtube?
@@MarcoEjs livestream on the channel of UpnDown, honestly great channel as well
@@JasperV70-205CT-BX thx for the tip. Just watched it 👍
I think kitch is very much on to something!
I had this on my BMW e38. It was leaking so i cut the line like: "it is leaking and probably no pressure is inside" ... HAHA... and this bombastic green stuff suspension line exploded to my face :D .. Yummy, that was tasty...
Now i don´t like it :D
Nah, those aren't leaks, that's automatic self-applying rust protection of course, it just happens to be green, that''s all... :P
Think I heard somewhere that the cars earth connection was as good as it should be !
"All aliens bleeds green stuff"😂
couuld it be a fuse in the fusebox?? Really hope it is something small and easy. Greetings from the Netherlands,, Kitty.
no... :(
Oh... shit :(
lol, love the humour.
👍🔧🙏
someone here said alternator will be removed through wheel arch
wont be easy!
Lexia i think the diagnastic tools name?
Yea but the machine is called Proxia... :)
C'mon man. Check the exc wire on the alternator for voltage, ground it and see if the battery light comes ON ! If yes , the circuit is ok. THE voltage regulator is NOT ground ing the battery light ! Rebuild the alternator !
