Assuming one is familiar with their PL, Okakoro actually had good experience as game streamers prior to Hololive. It may also explain why Korone went on by recommendation - while only Okayu auditioned, her attachment to Korone must have been known at the time.

I’ve always had the impression that GAMERS was Fubuki’s way of convincing Hololive to invite her friends so she can stream games with them. And then she said “yeah sure!” as Hololive ran with the concept.

This is the way I read it between the lines as well - it didn't seem that Hololive had tight recruitment until Gen 3, as an example when you consider the apparent backstory behind Subaru it seems to follow. If the GAMERS plan was ever seriously managed it never seemed that way on the outside, it always seemed like Fubuki was the one championing it.

I imagine Hololive learned that forming a group around a particular activity didn't really work out so well, hence their new HLZNTL (Holizontal) initiative is more of a general gaming-focused brand, rather than an actual separate gen.

    • @tw-cq6xr
      @tw-cq6xr Před rokem +18

@@StrikeNoir105E If I had to guess, it limits their content focus too much to be just a tournament level gamer. Being professionally good at a game is a heckin' time investment, and streaming practices probably doesn't function well with interacting with/entertaining chat--the streamer brain debuff is real. As much as I like watching Aqua being batshit insane or Ayame getting her 2-3 kill rounds in, I couldn't *just* watch them do that, especially if they focused on the game more and only the *one* game. At the end of the day, their popularity is from the entertainment they provide and (imo somewhat lesser degree) viewer engagement.

Hololive is like a family and Yagoo is the father.
He gets all these kids and has such high hopes and specific expectations for what they will be and tries to set it up that way and promote them that way. Then he sets it all up, sits back, and watches in anticipation.
Then they go do something completely different like a kid that wants to become a theater actor instead of a doctor or lawyer which their parents had been pulling strings to try to arrange.
But even though it never quite works out the way he thinks it will, these girls are talented and charming and they make it work anyway and are successful regardless.
And someone like Coco coming along just broke him entirely. She was really pushing limits and against every possible boundary and going waaaaay off the beaten path and she ended up changing the whole industry as she corrupted all the other girls.

He saw a trend and a hole in the digital market , and made an investment. He had alot of ideas and adapted with the talents he hired. That flexibility makes me respect him SO much. Most CEO’s, want their way or no way and kick themselves when they miss a trend.

The age doesn't matter. Also, I think Hololive is more than just his income stream that he selected for wealth.
Imagine it was a baseball team instead. I mean sure they make money, but who is going to invest in a team or buy a team and manage a team unless they REALLY enjoyed it? And do you think people that own these teams really just count money and don't care what happens as long as the money flows? Of course they get invested in what happens and how their team is perceived and what their scores are and how their players are doing, etc.
Just because you have high hopes and expectations from an employee doesn't mean it is creepy to be proud of them or watch them grow.
I think Yagoo has been so successful precisely because he cares so much. That is what makes him a good CEO. If he was just a money man, he wouldn't involve himself and management would be way more detached like it is in most companies.

Been meaning to watch this clip for a while. This whole thing is just... funny. The whole esports angle that just never seems to have been mentioned again, a theme song that... I have no idea if it's been used. Do they even remember they have a theme song?
I love all of gamers, but I find it kind of amusing that I mostly pay attention to them for music now. Mio's karaokes always get me, and now that I'm thinking about it Okayu's songs and covers are pretty consistently bangers.
But I do enjoy them doing other stuff and catching clips of them goofing off together.

I love that you compiled all this info. Its like 85% stuff I've learned here and there (some from prior clips of yours) over the course of the last 4 years, and 15% new info to me like their never used theme song and fortnite video, lol.
This is the third time my recs have gifted me with something off your sub channel, and I gotta admit this "mini documentary" style format is so cool. We really appreciate your knowledge and translations, especially when talking about a group you've specifically been very passionate about for years. Its very well cited and not speculative as well, and I always like that. This was a must do video for this sub channel. Looking forward to stuff like history of SMOK, OKFAMS, OKBR, Ayafubumi, etc in relation to Gamers adjacent groups, and eventually other group histories like bakatare or shiraken or whatever interests you.
Anyways, don't want to count on algorithm luck again so ill be keeping an eye on this sub channel from now on. Want to encourage more of this.

1:37 Oh, that's interesting that they actually went for including the competitive angle. I mean, with vtuber Fall Guys tournaments and official collaborations and all, that would seem like a solid direction. In the beginning I assumed all these GAMERS subsets of groups were formed because people who had a specific interest in games were getting up in numbers, later on my perception of it barely shifted as I realized live gaming with commentary wasn't actually the early focus of vtuber livestreams and I understood that "focusing on games content" actually could warrant its own label. Funnily enough I actually did see a full NoriPro Gamers team participate in a Shibuya Hal Custom not too long ago.
8:51 Fubuki participated in Vsai 2 (January 2021) with Roboco and Noah from Vspo! Kinda fitting to bring up Vspo considering they actually styled their first three groups like the initial plans for Hololive Gamers. Nowadays they're just enjoying higher level gaming with a more casual attitude.

Hey JShay, good of you to create a new channel for these different style of videos (I'm posting ghis comment before I've even watched any of them) but you've got to push this out there. I think there's enough cross-appeal between both channels to warrant it! Fortunately, the algorithm is doing it's thing otherwise I'd probably not know about this channel...
Edit: after reading the community post on your main channel, I stand by my comment here even more!
The whole 'like and subscribe' thing can be grating, but I think even something as simple as a short outro with a channel link and a short, concise message about it would go a long way.
Sucks how CZcams demonised your main channel. One thing I love about your work is that you don't use generic and/or obnoxious meme edits.

I still remember watching that specific trailer many years ago. I did wondered why no one in Hololive (the few JP members I knew at the time) ever played that game. 😅
Personally? I feel the current timeline has been the best outcome. Rather than a generation or unit being artificially created for tournaments, it is currently the individual members deciding if they want to participate.

I remember hearing them say somewhere that they were "gamers" because they all enjoyed playing games, never knew that at the beginning they were actually meant to be a group of serious gamers.
I think anyone who's been in the rabbit hole for a while will recognise Gamers' logo (I believe it's still used every now and then), but what the heck they had a THEME SONG??? I wonder if they themselves have actually forgotten about it, because they've talked about wanting to make a Gamers original song before but the topic of their theme song never came up lol

Considering the way this group was put together, this group is the most consistent theme-wise in all HL. I wonder if they chose the animal theme because Fubuki started as one. I believe that E-sports gained a lot of popularity in 2018, and it's a good idea to have Hololive participate in a game tournament. However, HololiveJP was still new at the time, so the talents were often recommended since no one really expected vtubers to become so popular nowadays. All the members of Hololive have experience in the entertainment category, such as streaming and participating in variety shows.
When thinking of tournaments, Towa and Aqua first comes to mind. I never considered Gamers was created for tournaments, but it's nice to see such in-depth details.

I basically haven’t touched fighting games since middle school cause it was either play at home alone or go to the arcade and throw quarters away getting stomped by the local kids. Korone was really nervous but went out there in front of a lot of people and learned a hard character to play to boot, so if she could do it I figured I could try again, too!
