    Many believe auto recycling is odd and take a "Just buy a new one" attitude. I flew from Singapore to Mauritius and someone ahead of me me had two front doors of a recycled Toyota Corolla as check in baggage!! Bravo to him.

    Very impressive. When I were a lad, running old bangers on a shoestring, the breakers yards were a muddy field, the owner would say, "There is one down yonder", and "Fetch the part yourself and pay on the way out".
    Of course you loaded up with light bulbs, nuts and bolts, and other small items concealed in your toolbox.
    I have recently bought items on line from breaker yards with great success.
    Good luck to Motorhog, always hard to do it right in this business, Health and safety, and Environmental problems abound.

Especially appreciated your operator's ability to pick the pieces from a car as cleanly as a crab might pick apart a dead fish. Hoping you have old VW aircooled parts and bits. Yeah, I've been in one of those yards and it's sad the amount of good stuff that's destroyed by people who will rip things apart just to get the part they want leaving many good parts that others could use broken and scattered. This system makes for cheaper parts but it's hugely wasteful because most people don't give a rat's left bum cheek about the next person looking for parts.

    Why does the UK junk such clean, low mileage cars? Where I live in the USA cars are run until either something very expensive wears out, rust sets in, or there is catastrophic accident damage. My own second car is a 20 year old Chevy sedan with a replacement front end after our teenager ran into something. Hard enough to ruin the front plastics, not hard enough to damage the cooling system.

    I wonder how often they have to go through the parts that are not selling and decide whether to keep them or move them on to the recycling section? I would imagine as parts come and go there will inevitably be parts that do not sell for whatever reason. They probably have to choose at some stage whether to keep certain parts for certain types of vehicles, and then probably rearrange their stock to suit the changing demands.

    Long gone are the days you used to go to a scrapyard for some parts for the family car, you always took your own tools as the scrap yard had none besides a hammer, a pair of pliers and a wheel nut socket on a welded arm, for the big jobs was a gas axe, those were the days that you could get killed in there no problem. They were dangerous places but you used to go home knowing that you had saved ten quid and had all the relevant nuts and bolts you had lost taking the part out. Them were great times. Unlike the modern versions that are like this one, an operating theatre that extracted that elusive part you always wanted but couldn’t get any of eBay as everyone else wanted the same bits.
    On a serious note this place looks epic , must be one of the biggest I have ever seen so far and wish them well for the future, plus keep the number handy just in case, no where’s my dads cantilever toolbox gone full of AF spanner....🤪

The key is to make it the manufacturer's problem--not the consumer's or the municipality's.

    It's shocking to see some vehicles with low mileage being scrapped. A little bit of work on them and they would be fine for a few more years. Very wasteful.

    • @garybrown5500
      @garybrown5500 Před 5 lety +1

      Yes but isn't this why they are being dismantled to save similar vehicles. New parts from manufacturers are ridiculously over priced.

      @@garybrown5500 That's true but it's better leaving the car in one piece and simply repairing it. Scrapping vehicles prematurely is very wasteful.
