Jakdaws are not as aggressive "nest robbers" as many other corvids. It either tries to steal food or is having fun. I've seen jackdaws joyfully demolish a gull's half-built nest and take the materials for their own nests. I've also seen magpies tugging at hedgehogs' spikes just for the hell of it. No attempt at injuring the pincushions, just entertainment. Not all behaviour exhibited by birds is related to food or predation in any way.
This was very strange, corvids usually are nest predators but this guy didn’t seem interested in killing them and seemingly even started feeding them! Thanks for sharing!
I think he was trying to take food out of their mouths - he didn't seem to actually give them anything. Surprise he didn't eat the little runt on the right!
@@firsargentum5920 True! Maybe this is some not so well documented behavior? If it was there for a meal alone it would’ve killed the chicks but it appears to have another goal in mind
Jackdaws aren't predators in that sense. If they're desperate enough they would. And magpies would utterly destroy the nest out of pure spite. But ultimately this Jackdaw was interested in the dead rodents delivered by the parents.
Was the nest abandoned? I've always been lead to believe that the mother may flea and leave the nest if something attacks it. Maybe that's why the mother isn't there, if this is a regular occurrence?
0:02 do you see how terrified this chick is? Like they stand absolutely no chance because of how small and young they are. The jackdaw could’ve just swallowed them 1 by 1 but it didn’t fortunately.
No it’s actually intelligent - animals with higher intelligence will display behaviours not just related to survival. This bird’s a Jackdaw, a corvid, which are generally pretty intelligent and often display play behaviours. This may have just been a play behaviour.
He's annoying them so they call out for there mother, the mother brings food and he steals the food if he kills the chicks the mom has no reason to bring food anymore if he kills just one of them to eat the mom wont leave the nest anymore, so he is just annoying them to make them call for mom. very smart

Imagine that I no longer see pigeons, birds, and parrots. I do not see pictures of black birds everywhere, so I hope that everyone who watches this video will Reading about Islam
Dude shut up, we don't have to kill the jackdaws, just protect the victims. Don't try to spread religion for the sake of a bunch of birds. I stopped respecting Islam completely once I got to read the verse of An-Nisa, 34.

Hello, I haven't seen this video " live" , because the camera is continuously recording . In the evening , I look through the recording of that day , and only then have I seen this . You have no idea what I have already tried to scare away the jackdaws , but nothing seems to help for a longer period. On the back of the breeding box , you see that there are vertical rubber flaps hanging down . Well if I spot a jackdaw in the nestbox , I can push a button and the flaps rotate to give the jackdaw a kick . That keeps them away for a short period, but they always come back . But though the jackdaws have bullied the chicks much, there is not a single chick that was killed by the jackdaws. Chicks that did not survive , died because there was not enough food supply . Greetings

i've seen the full video, the reason Jakdaws keep coming back to that nest is because the Kestrel's stole its home

The mother won't bring more food to steal if the chicks are all dead
