The largest combat ships I'd even consider for my group, even in-game, is the Perseus and maybe the Polaris. The Idris is a lot of ship with a lot of crew positions.

Yup. People forget the K-kit Idris has 4 auto turrets. I think this makes it much easier to use less crewmembers. With 4 auto turrets you could get by with 5-7. Pilot, 6 gunners and an engineer. Not optimal but no one out there without an Idris is gonna test you. And let’s face it. 90% of the big ships are gonna short crews.

Thanks again Steakuwu & Orian of Omega Org for the clutch assistance in capturing that Idris.
We parked it next to Stanton overnight so no sector security would hassle us & put 3 folks on it for redundancy.
All in all, this just makes me more hyped for the Ironclad; More room for activities, fewer hallways 👾

I could already see three big use cases for it. If you just wanted a standard frigate, you could do a Hull, -a, gladius and a vanguard. And that would give you a basic carrier. A way to restock and refuel basic supplies and defend yourself. The second one I could see is a Hunter interdiction model, where you have a vanguard sentinel doing e-warfare, a terrapin doing scanning, and a mantis doing interdiction or just running their systems from the hanger Bay. I think the last one I'm excited about is the idea of scavenger Idris; this one has a Vulcan, a vulture and a cutter scout. This configuration goes out scans for wrecks in the cutter and then launches the vulture to do salvage work and maybe the Vulcan if this is something that could be repaired instead of destroyed. All of the cargo goes in back into the idris again for repairs and supplies

The Idris is really cool to have in-game, even if I don't think the game is ready for players to be able to just spawn their own whenever they want. But having an Idris that players can capture and keep for as long as the server lasts is really cool. I hope the Arlington Idris gets and update. Though, since that's _stolen,_ it should probably _remain_ flagged as stolen even if lawful players are in control. Maybe give it a 30 minute "tresspassing timer" like with the bunkers.

@Billionaire Ninjas - Hoping you see this, and would like to know what you think.
I really hope you see things a little differently when Engineering comes out.
This ship is almost Twice as big as the Polaris. And you will need a full crew to take care of the Polaris.
The Idris is a ship of war. It can only really dish out the pain and intimidate. Just like the Polaris. This ship is designed to be supported.
So when you go into the verse. You are going to spend 50x times as longer getting the ship prepared and ready compared the the Polaris.
Just the size of it alone will dictate that. The sheer size of it internally will just cut your productivity time in less then half.
One person is going to be doing the job of almost 10 people. Think about that.
I can not use the Torps on my Polaris, I have to have a Weapons officer do the targeting just to have somewhere for the torps to go.
Then "" ONE DOES NOT SIMPLY FIRE THE Sx10 TORPEDO'S ""
The order is given. My order on that matter. Someone has to deal with power management.
    Others will deal with Engineering.
Others will need to man the turrets even if not offensively jus to that we don't have to take fire on all sides of the ship/
Then I will be dictating how things will go down just to survive a particular situation that we managed to get into.
You on the other hand will be having to figure out where your going to go after you get into your escape pods because you have decided to have your ship under powered.
And yes I said under powered because your crew is an extension of your ship and an extension of your ship's power.
If you just have less then the bare minimum and go into combat... an entire fighter escort will make short work of your Idris and will have scrapped any plans you made for the next month or more nit including the month's you have spent preparing for what ever you might be doing before you got in a jam.
We need to stop thinking of things before they were a year ago. Fighter's are no longer the meta. You need to start thinking of mostly multiplayer game play and the more players you have to help you the better.

  • @twelvewingproductions7508

Great video... Keep them coming. I enjoy hearing your take on things.
About the Idris and other large capital ships... things like the 890 included.. what they lack is the functionality they imply.
At least the 890 and Carrack have functional med bays. I expect the Idris will as well, but the way I see the Idris, it's main functionality will be as a mobile base of operations. You can't camp what you can't find.
The Idris is 200 yards of diplomacy. When you identify an area you want to mine.. you send out your mining ships and you land an Idris. It's THE way to tell everyone else to back off... and that for the next several hours this patch of land isn't worth your life.
To pull that off... when people go to the galley... they need to find food. Go to the hangar? They need to be able to refuel and repair. Go to the births... they expect to be able to bed log like a hab.
These things are really non negotiable. And CIG needs to get to work NOW and figure out how to make those things happen.
Boring interiors I can handle... so long as they actually do what they are supposed to do.

I like the comment about your Idris being "under powered" but id also like to add my thoughts on engineering. The idea itself is interesting. BUT... (And its a big but) no one in their right mind is going to be able to consistently, or even very rarely, find 8-10 engineers to run around this ship just in case something threatening enough comes along where youll need them. Your idea if 8 as a minimum seems valid, but youll need just as many engineers to have everything covered. So 15+ is sounding a lot like your 20 guesstimate. And if they dont do engineering correctly (i own the idris, javi, orion, polaris, kraken, etc etc...) they wont be viable for use. They SHOULD be that rare moment or ship to see out. And i dont WANT to have 30-50 AI to man these ships. But if they make engineering what it seems like its going to be, 8-12 seems accurate for the idris. 25-35 for the javelin. And ill never even want to convince people to do that. Hell let alone i can get that many people on just to stare at a panel "just in case" is ridiculous

    • @billionaireninjas
