    I just purchased a Sayl and am enormously happy with it, and owe much of that decision to this video - thank you! I did want to note for anyone considering purchase, that the forward tilt is a custom option and not part of the standard fully loaded Sayl specs. It's not even an option when placing the order online, you actually need to call Herman Miller directly and there is an additional cost associated (over $100). I didn't think this would be a worthwhile upgrade for me so I just purchased the fully loaded standard.

    I got the Sayl with forward tilt and height-adjustable armwrest (not sideways). I tried Ikea chairs before buying a used Sayl.
    Positive:
    -Herman Miller quality (although I got a used one, it still feels great)
    -Forward tilt is great for more intensive tasks
    -Adjustable seat
    -Good cushion
    -Cheap everything considered. An used one may match the price of a new Ikea chair,
    -Back support without being aggressive like Ikea Markus or Järvfjället
    -The wheel can change how easy it is to lean back, järvfjället did lack this
    -You can lock the back in different positions
    Negative:
    -Probably fit short people the best

    I bought this chair recently and it is without a doubt the worst build quality chair I've had in my life.
    Seating cushion does not fix in place. It just moves back/front and left/right. It also clicks and rattles when this happens, making chair extremely uncomfortable.
    Arms are very wobbly, like they would fall off.
    My biggest worry was sail backrest. Worry about this not, it is brilliant, rubber like material, way better than mesh on aeron and super nice.
    Overall seat base moving around made this chair not fit for use and I returned it.
    I bought directly from Herman Miller UK, they charged me £49 to return it. Looking at how bad the quality is, I understand why they charge for returns - their satisfaction must be record low.

  • @Biesteh
    @Biesteh Před 2 lety +7

    I've been thinking about buying the Sayl for a few weeks now but the one thing I am not certain about is whether or not to get the adjustable lumbar support. Compared to the variant without the lumbar support, how big is the difference and would you say you get plenty of support even without the adjustable lumbar support? Also thank you for the detailed insight, definitely the best channel out there when it comes to office chairs.

  • @klean1620
    @klean1620 Před rokem +10

    I gotta say the Sayl is really dependent on your height. As someone who’s over 6 foot I found the top of the chair really dug into my shoulder blades and felt much less comfortable then even my $200 Ikea Markus at home. Though the lower back support was admittedly much better and less intrusive than my cheapo Markus. But my Steelcase Leap at work is just the gold standard in comfort for me.

      @@damianlua9282 I definitely like it. It’s quite comfortable for me with just 1/2 exceptions, mainly the lack of a headrest. For the price, I’d say it’s incredibly well built and has good support. Given our height, we’re also relatively heavy, and I’ve found the butt cushioning could be a bit better for long sessions. I’d personally recommend one of the more expensive herman miller chairs that has a headrest. Aeron or higher..
      It definitely depends how long you’ll spend in the chair though. I’d recommend going to a local herman miller dealer and sitting in a few to help decide… The Sayl might be comfy for you- it also depends on use case. I use mine at my work desk, so the lack of a headrest isn’t an issue as it helps keep my posture correct and keeps me from being lazy in the chair lol

    There is a plastic cover that has a sticker on it reading "Do not remove, needed for warranty claim".

    I bought this chair a week ago, and I am quite surprised with the positive reviews. This chair has three major issue, the first one being the deal breaker.
    - The hard mesh hurts the bones of my spine. Even after using the chair the pain persists. Keep this in mind, specially if you are somewhat thin.
    - The armrests move off place too easily. I have to reposition it in the place I want several times per day, it doesn't have some locking mechanism, so it slides off through the day.
    - The lumbar support add-on is plain useless, I've played with it, and it doesn't make any difference because it is attached to the mesh itself, not the fixed back of the chair.
    I mean, given that not even with the cheapest chair I ever had issues with pain on my spine bones, I can say this is the worst office chair I've ever used.
