  • On April 9, 2020, Google made an exciting announcement, Android’s TalkBack was getting a Braille keyboard. Well, the update is available, and we take a look at the TalkBack Braille Keyboard in this video. I will show you how to set it up, and we go through the tutorial. We then take it for a test drive, and I show the various settings.
    A few notes:
    1. I am using a Google Pixel 3A for this demonstration. Depending on your phone model, things may vary slightly from what is shown in this video. However, these steps should work.
    2. In order for me to type, I had to put my camera down. So, there is unfortunately a black screen throughout the video.
    3. I have done my best to explain the gestures and position of the Braille dots on the screen. You will likely find that it becomes easier when you try it on your own phone. Experience is certainly the best way to learn this keyboard.
Hopefully, you will find this demonstration helpful. It is an awesome feature, and Google should be commended for the work that they put into this keyboard.

Thanks for the tutorial. I began using the talkback braille keyboard since November, 2022. It was first difficult though, but constant practice has made me to use it for all my typing on the phone. I normally use the screen-away mode for that. The table-tap mode is good though, but the phone must be laid flat on a desk.

First of all, I don't know to use braille. I use the double-tap method for every key on a standard Samsung keyboard when typing. When I purchase a new phone, my google keyboard doesn't use the double-tapping method. Are there other alternative keyboard using this method? Thanks. From my sister Alyssa...

good to see google coming out with its own inbuilt braille keyboard. Just out of curiosity, does it work with messages, and can you select the emojie keyboard to display in your list of input methods, so if you wanted to put an emojie, in the middle of a text message for example, then switch back to braille screen input you could? Do you find the talkback braille keyboard as good as the IOS version? does the ' submit ' gesture work everywhere, so for example fb messenger whatsapp.... just any place a keyboard is available, you can type with this one? hope I've made sense 🤞🏻

It would be nice if VoiceOver had the feature where you could use two fingers to delete a word. Reminds me of mBraille.
