You can tell how Lars is uncomfortable here talking bout this. He even defends himself "uhm i got slight punch but i did stand up through rest of the night ..."
I read it was not their only fight. James used to beat up Lars because of his poor performance, and Lars would get him back by starting a wrong song on a concert deliberetly or miss first couple of beats.
That's interesting considering Lars is (admittedly arguably) the leader of Metallica.
James used to throw Lars into his drum kit.

Lars wanted to play Helpless. James wanted to play Blitzkrieg. Blitzkrieg is a much simpler song to play on the fly. Helpless is stop/start janky and if you havent practiced it recently, which apparently they hadnt, it can be a real problem.
I kinda see why James was pissed.
Metallica is the best band in the world, it makes me really happy to see them all looking well, especially James. I know the struggle within and it’s real.

@@WillowandGrace so he didn't play on the first demo and the first few shows big deal. He was still there from the start. He only missed the first 6 months or so.

@@christopherjaskowiak9327 You are correct with "Helpless". James, I think suggested Blitzkrieg a song the band knew much better but Lars started up Helpless which the band barely knew and hadn't practiced. They were not happy.
