  • Internet Analysis: Family Vloggers. These videos take forever to research, film, and edit, so I hope y'all enjoy!!
    I have many comments, questions, and concerns regarding the 'family channel' genre, but I could only put so many thoughts into one video. Stay tuned for the next video about privacy in family vlogs.
    #internetanalysis #familyvlog #familyvloggers #familyvlogging
    This video contains many clips from the Slyfox Family and Cole & Sav. They're not the only channels that use these strategies / make this kind of content... but they are solid examples.
    Teenage and pregnant, surprise pregnancy announcements, birth vlogs, and more. These videos get milllllllions of views. The family vlog part of youtube is growing more and more everyday. Documenting the lives of your children is one thing, but a lot of this content is questionable. Is it fake? It it just for clickbait? How many times can your house get broken into or robbed?? Come on!!!

      Seriously. I hate when people say things about literal babies like "oh he's such a flirt, look at him!" or "she's gonna be such a heartbreaker when she grows up". They're 6 months old, and just smiling like babies do, why do you feel the need to ascribe adult things to them. UGH it's icky.

      I also think it's so messed up when parents sexualise their own kids online. I mean, there are a worrying number of people who go online to fetishise kids and parents making videos like that feels like they're getting a big neon arrow and pointing at their children, instead of trying to protect them :(

    With child actors they have a maximum number of hours they can work and a certain portion of their money has to be set aside in a trust fund. A lot of these kids in family vlogs are working a lot of hours, sometimes everyday, and they are not guaranteed any portion of their money. It's sad really. I have a feeling in about 5-10 years we're gonna see the consequences of children being raised in such an environment.

    The "day in a life of a teen mom" vlogs piss me off. I really do think they're encouraging teen pregnancy because they never talk about the difficulties. They all make it seem as if raising a whole human being is easy peesey lemon squeezey.

    • @shaunnicolewheeler872
      @shaunnicolewheeler872 Před 5 lety +452

      jalapeno1119 Thank you! I was a teen mom (my oldest daughter was born right after I graduated high school). While I would never change it for the world, my husband and I both worked our butts off to build a good life for our daughter. It was hard seeing other teens my age going out and having fun and starting college, living in dorms, etc., while I was staying up all night with my baby and screaming at my husband because we couldn’t make the pay check stretch through the month. It was all 100% worth it for me, since I’m still with my high school sweetheart and we’ve now also got four beautiful sons and we’ve built an amazing life. But when I see that life being romanticized as being super fun and ‘goals’. Idk, just very weird to me.

      I saw a video the other day of a girl that's 17 and pregnant with her third child
      The scary part is that 99 percent of the comments, teenagers, were praising her. I saw at least 10 comments of girls saying their ages (14-16) expressing that they were soooooo excited because they were pregnant. It's scary to see that these young girls idolize teen pregnancy and think is a walk in the park. I blame the parents too. At 14, all the computer access that I had was using my dad's computer in his office.....while supervised. I know times have changed. But most parents are not aware of wtf their children do with all the easy access to technology

      @kenzij Před 5 lety +69

      Maybe the videos were better a few years back, because I remember being a little obsessed with a few teen mom vlogging channels when I was a teen myself. Pretty much all of the videos I watched the girls tried to seem put together and on top of their game but there was like always a cut where they came back and explained that baby just screamed for 90minutes or they got super emotional and had to pick up another day or something. It never really seemed glamorous or easy, though the girls did always have their or boyfriend's parents to help out which I know often isn't the case. Odd that time would've changed that.

Throw around some buzz words and it's about "kindness, inclusivity, respecting differences etc". Absolutely no substance. Family bloggers kill me. Somethings should not be filmed. In a recent Cole&Sav video they have a very serious conversation with Everleigh about the new baby. How Cole, her step father, will still love her just as much. This is very important for her to hear, she is at a sensitive age and in a sensitive position (as a step child). You could tell she was so uncomfortable with it being filmed. Somethings are too important for the world to see.
    Side note on the Reborn dolls, my mom works as a prek teacher and lost a son at 5 months to SIDS 32 years ago. A kid brought in a reborn doll and my mom held it, but had to put it down. She said it felt exactly like a lifeless baby and brought flash backs.

    This reminds me of a family channel I found a few weeks ago, their son passed away from a chronic illness. But they literally made a video about the "last moments of his life" because of course they filmed everything of these kid's lives. It was actually horrifying to see this child literally out of body in most of the clips while the mom just rambled on and ignored him. Like the daughter literally brought up he didn't look well and she just kept filming her about her coloring books instead. And then the clips after his passing she just kept shoving the camera in the kid's faces like "how's life without your brother????" it was just scary to watch tbh.

    Family vlogging is honestly sickening to me. Something that REALLY bothers me is parents using their children in sponsored content. One that comes to mind is the Sacconejolys. I can’t remember what the specific item was, but they were coaching the kids so hard to say how much they “loved” some product they were pushing and I felt so uncomfortable. When you say things to your step daughter(concerning your love for her and a new sibling), on camera, for the world to see(Cole), and you’re saying things like, “now I’ll be in this baby’s life from the start, unlike how I wasn’t in your life,” and other things that there’s absolutely no need to say, just for the sake of getting a reaction from her for the camera, it IS child abuse. When you won’t get the camera out of your 12 year old who just got her periods face even though she doesn’t want to be filmed, it IS child abuse. When you tell your kids their house has been broken into because they have to believe it, too, or it won’t look real, and they’re scared to death, that is child abuse! Not even to mention child exploitation. These kids ARE being directly hurt and we won’t even know how bad they’re being hurt emotionally until years to come.

      Now they're doing "mini Justin Bieber and Hayley Baldwin", where they recreate pictures of the celebrities with the kids, and they had their 11 year old daughter wearing a pregnancy bump! They're whacked. Their friends, the Johnson Family did a vlog right after the hurricane flooded Houston, with their backyard flooded, and said they "had to leave" their home. They were going to a YT convention anyway, and their backyard was just a little flooded, and they don't live in Houston. People were worried about them, and people who lived in Houston were angry because they were implying that they had been flooded out, and they never apologized or even mentioned it. And they do all these fake "Justin Bieber FaceTimes our daughter!" And it's never really him. It's just their uncle who maybe slightly resembles JB.
      Sorry for rambling, but it's just so good to see this addressed. You should talk about the way people worship these vloggers. If you say anything remotely negative, even constructive criticism, you get crucified by their fans. They will delete negative comments because they say they want to "spread positivity", but their fans can attack people and call them names, and curse at them, and _those_ comments stay up.

You can tell the difference by watching the videos and seeing who it's focused on. There are channels like ThisGatheredNest where it mostly features their mom and talks about parenting and advocates for adoption etc and doesn't divulge her kids stories or their private information, and then there are channels like those SlyFox people where it's all about exploiting the kids to make a quick buck.

    i haven’t even watched the video yet but i can say that family vlogging skeeves me tf out. it is literally CAPITALIZING OFF OF YOUR CHILDREN. and the thing that makes it different from, say a commercial, is that it’s not industrialized. there’s no agents or whatever involved, there's no separation from normal and onscreen. it all seems innocent bc their parents are the ones creating the whole “brand”. these kids don’t understand that their videos are being used to make money and that they are technically part of a job. i just wonder how many family vlogging channels start out innocently and how many are made bc families see how popular they get. i feel like a lot of it could be in the parents’ subconscious so they think there’s no ill intent when that’s not really the case. anyway i love these internet analysis videos you’re making and i was so excited to see this one pop up.

      The right to privacy is incredibly important - which is actually why it's encoded in the European Constitution of Human Rights - and this is something that the parents are depriving their children of. It's the responsibility of parents to protect their children, and showing them on camera to the public constantly is not doing that. It is also inappropriate for parents to use their children for money - both inherently, and because of the threat this can pose to the welfare of their children.

    Feel like the teen mom tv phenomenon, teenagers/young people are getting the wrong idea about how hard and expensive it is to raise a family. Crazy how life rewards some people who made really irresponsible decisions and they now live in huge houses with crazy disposable income. Most people who accidentally or purposefully get pregnant without an education, career, own place to live end up struggling and not living a luxurious life. The crazy part is that that young people who are tech savvy are also naive as to the business behind the internet. They are the ones buying the merchandise not understanding what a lucrative extra source of income that is and not being able to distinguish what a brand deal is and what products these influencers actually use. Also think there is a huge religious undertones in these videos that are no longer being kept quiet. There are so many mormon bloggers but that makes sense since mom's are usually at home and they have tons of kids which makes good content. In many ways I feel bad for some of these families. Would be hard to hit career/monetary success in your 20s and then spend your life trying to keep up that lifestyle. I see a few families who seem to be saving a ton and having a clear plan to transition out of the family vlogger industry. Same problem you see in tons of professional athletes. Some of these youtubers have fed into their popularity and think so highly of themselves and I don't get their appeal. What sickens me about Bratayley is how often they're shoving cameras in the girls faces. The last vlog I watched Annie was crying and clearly did not want to be filmed. Also they're brother died from a heart condition. I remember being sad and I still feel very bad for the family as no one deserves to lose a child. It's disgusting though how they have branded his death in to merch. Also the kids are hella famous and I always see random fan videos about the girls. Like "Annie caught sticking up the middle finger" or something like that and honestly a part of me feels that they don't want the fame. They live in LA now and Annie has quit gymnastics and left her normal friends for famous toxic ones. Same with Hayley. Also I find the Ace family and Cole and Sav super cringey. Also about pedos, my friend shared me a video once from a family blogger (I forget who it but they have a tween daughter) anyways the girl was filmed while wearing a sports bra. Honestly disguising.

      Bratayley used to be innocent and a normal family until Caleb died, then everything just went downhill. Sad history

    i think having your kids the star of your channel is just... weird? like growing up if I had a camera documenting some of the stuff I did I would probably cringe and just be uncomfortable. These kids don't realize the extent of being on the internet and who's watching, to them it's all fun and games. The fact that they are subjected to weird pranks and clickbait is like toddlers and tiaras of youtube, but even more messed up?? idk i don't get why anyone watches this content, especially since the target market is kids and such explicit stuff is insinuated (who even jokes about injuring a baby or a break in??)

    Wow so glad I stumbled across this! I’ve been watching Cole & sav for a while, not out of real fandom, but more like a.... wow this is kind of cute but also deeply unsettling but I can’t look away. You put the perfect words to what I’ve been feeling. Also you’re lowkey gorgeous! Subscribed

    The Family vlogger family I've always found the most interesting was Bratayley. They've been making videos for years upon years and throughout many heartaches (the oldest son Caleb passing away). And now they've become so popular that their children are living in LA, mixing with "traditional" celebrities (from TV, Movies, etc.) and they've literally become famous from making family vlogs. Craziest thing. Would love to hear your thoughts on that.

      Bratayley is CRAZY. They put fame over their kids education, they used their 12-year-olds first relationship to get views and keep peddling out songs that are super autotuned and show zero talent.

      They are by far two of the worst parents on social media. It started out so simple and sweet.

    Love this video so much and I totally agree with what you had to say. I also made a video about family vloggers because I honestly think that what they do is so messed up

    I admittedly watch some of these family vloggers and you raise many great points and concerns.

    The worst family vlogger videos are the ones where the title is "OMG (kid) GOT HER PERIOD! PERIOD SHOPPING VLOG!" or "(kid) STARTS SHAVING! SHOPPING VLOG!" Imagine having millions of people know you started your period or something like that. Imagine going to school after half the kids at school saw that content. These kids are probably bullied, and most of them probably didn't want everyone to know they started shaving their legs, but their parents shoved them in front of a camera to get views.
