One correction here. Expired backup are those backups which have been deleted manually and not updated in RMAN repository. Obsolete backups are those backups which have crossed the retention configured in RMAN repository.
Candidate initially said 5 team members and later said 12 team members. Doesn't have any tool experience implies.. either he has lab experience or very small companies. For, Entry level, the candidate is theoretically good for maintenance of non-prod env's.
Ok. Here's the deal. This sounds to me like its an arranged Q&A (Which btw totally sounded like real). Eitherway, No regrets. It was a time spent good. :)
how the physical standby in read mode ....Alter database mount standby database command will bring up our stand by database in mount stage ....we can find the open_mode value from v$database for standby database mode
Interviewer was wrong for RMAN Expired/Obsolete. Interviewer doesn't seem to have extenstive real time. Extract from google : RMAN uses this terminology to say that the tape management system has expired the file. It is no longer available. Therefore, the backup piece is expired as well. A status of "obsolete" means the backup piece is still available, but it is no longer needed. Candidate has low communication skills, good technical and average real time skills to his 3.2/3.6 years experience.

interviewer was not correct in his explanation
Rman repository is not the place where rman keeps the backup ..it is the place where it keeps the metadata of the backups that it performs.
