- Gir or Gyr is a famous milk cattle breed of India. The native tract of the breed is Gir hills and forests of Kathiawar including Junagadh, Bhavnagar, Rajkot, and Amreli districts of Gujarat. This breed is also known as Bhodali, Desan, Gujarati, Kathiawari, Sorthi, and Surti in different parts of the breeding tract.

Sahiwal and gir both having Surya Ketu nari but sahiwal milk quality (pure A2 if you check lab results ) and quantity both are better then gir and other desi cows
but the reason why its not much populer sahiwal is best for punjab and haryana area and second is gir cow is advertised so much because ages ago Brazil import it in their country.
Deceases resident power of sahiwal is also best moreover it is very clean cow which prefer clean place around it.
Sahiwal is smaller than gir cow. By the way both are desi cows . Choose according to area.

Gir is better for dual purpose for dairy and pasture. It is similar to Brown Swiss/Montafone cow.
