  • Competitive commander decks are all trying to win the game with some form of a fast combo. That is forcing all decks to include interactions to deal with it. That is making Counterspell into an almost must have.
    But in this cEDH video we looking at cards that can win the if they are left unchecked and interact with your opponents at the same time.

    I am sorry if you get irritated on some strange sound in the background. It seems my microphone got old or something.

      If you need a new microphone, I can really recommend the Rhode NT 1 A together with the scarlett 2i2. However it needs a quiet room as it picks up background noise.

    Breya is another example of an interactive wincon. I particularly like her as a commander. When you have yet to assemble your infinite mana combo she can still deal with creatures (hate bears or combo pieces that are creatures). She also provides an excellent color combination.

    Good list. I have a cEDH Kraum & Tymna deck that has zero infinite combos in it. A lot of what is in here is stuff I try to explain to people in my playgroup when I win.

    great qualitiy as always, you might remember me from older videos, we talked about what deck would be the best to build for me and i settled for blood pod, i have been able to pay with it a bit, also through the discord you promoted which has been great, blood pod is perfect for me because it allwos me to do what i love most, tinker wth decks and try out new things, your channel has also helped me to understand cedh and the cedh meta better which is of course important if you wanna play it, especially with blood pod, i'm still not sure what my final list for now will be but has definitly given me a lot of fun so far, thank you very much for the amount of help that you offer and for how much your videos help people just like the close interaction you have with fans

    • @cedhtv
      @cedhtv  Před 5 lety

      WOW! thank you. Glad to hear that the deck is working for you. Blood pod is a difficult deck to pilot and build. It has soo many build options and tweaks you can do with it. And during play, I guess you have a feeling of several different options that you can go for?
      Wizard is also getting better at making good hatebears. Sadly Lavinia is a blue creature. But I think that deck will get stronger over time. Or stronger might be the wrong word. More options might be the correct one.

    • @Niko-sy1sd
      @Niko-sy1sd Před 5 lety

      Yeah definitly, i think i am lucky because i play the game for more than ten years now so getting comfortable with a more complex deck isn't as overwhelming for me as for a newer player
      The different options are definitly the fun and strength of the deck just like they are the difficulty, i saw your take on it with the "landbase hate" style but i have chosen to go a bit of a different route because part of my meta is more casual so landbases often still run a good number of basics, i focused more on rule of law effects and things lile root maze to slow the game down because those are good in more casual and fully competitive games, similar to that i have included grave hate and a few tax effects, of course blood moon stays in the deck but i run a mana base with duals and shocks and all that none the less, to be better suited against slower match ups i have added ulvenwald tracker, serra ascendant, survival of the fittest, fauna shaman and a bit of reanimation to go with the survival, the two big targets are elesh norn and sire of insanity and i have had pretty good results so far

  • @Tacklepig
    @Tacklepig Před 5 lety +3

    I've been running an Anafenza the Foremost hatebears deck for a while that focuses on beatdown as the main wincon. I haven't really built it with cEDH in mind - mostly because I didn't know about it at the time - but it turns out it's pretty competitively viable to consistently put out a 4/4 on turn 2 that can screw up graveyard-based combos entirely.
    I generally prefer more interactive wincons to pure combos btw, it makes for more interesting gameplay usually and a lot of the typical "go off turn 3" decks have a problem handling it. If anything, I usually make the combo my plan B so I don't have to worry about consistently getting my combo pieces so much and can instead focus on disrupting opponents.

  • @AndrewWoodford

    I recently retuned my Derevi deck to be more interactive and have more card production effects. Verity Circle, Devoted Crop Mate, Counterspell Drakes, and of course the Stax Pieces are still there but have been trimmed a bit. It feels so much better than hitting a Stax piece early just for it to get removed and drawing Lands and Dorks for the rest of the game.

    Hey cedhtv, so I've run this idea for najeela aluren to you before, but I forgot to mention something important. So originally I mentioned that I included spellskite specifically because it was a 3 cost or lower artifact creature and that allows you to gain infinite life using nature's claim. The payoff to this is that you can now replace lightning helix with a more impactful spell that doubles as a wincon. Kolaghans Command, Earthquake, and Collective brutality were some ideas my friends and I had but maybe you can come up with an even better outlet. Also, I went 14-1 with the commander package at my local gp playing the deck, thanks!

    • @cedhtv
      @cedhtv  Před 5 lety +1

      Wow, that is really good. I went 11-4 at my local GP with Aluren. I have started to include Grand abolisher in my deck instead of spellskite. It kinda doses the same thing. I can find Grand abolisher during the hulk run before I slam Aluren into play. So I can protect myself vs Aluren actually.
      I haven't tested it because I am not sure if it is better. Knight of autumn can be used to destroy artifacts and enchantments. But we can also use it to gain infinite life. I really should test that one.
      But spellskite and natures claim is a good idea too. I think your version opens up more slots.
      Glad to see other Najeela Aluren brewers. A lot of people have tested it now and presented happy results with it.

    • @cedhtv
      @cedhtv  Před 5 lety +1

      YEAY! Najeela is kinda okay vs blood moon being mono-red. But still. I have plans of making a mana base that is more resilient to those moons.

    For Staxy/Stompy, I suggest Sire of Insanity.

    • @cedhtv

    Question if I have kozelik butcher of truth in my tasigur deck and I mill my whole deck with infinite mana don’t I end up with my whole deck in my hand? I’m looking to upgrade my tasigur deck.

    • @cedhtv
      @cedhtv  Před 5 lety +1

      Yes, you get your whole deck in your hand. Kozilek is a trigger on the stack. you can respond to that with Tasigur to keep collecting cards into your hand. Then when all lands are in your grave and every other card is in your hand (including kozilek). The kozilek trigger resolves and all cards in your grave are shuffled back into your library.

    I've also been told that Tireless Tracker is a monster if left unchecked. I've also been informed that it isn't an issue until it's too late if that makes sense. Is there another out past W Ballista?Is the 2 life lost with D Shaman good/relative? I run him among the other two cards I mentioned

      @cedhtv  Před 5 lety +1

      Humm what do you mean? are there other ways we can win without walking balista? and is the deathrite shaman any good? Yes deathrite shaman is good. The loss 2 life isn't that big but it gets big if it's sitting there doing that every turn.

    I was wondering about Avatar of Woe which you have on the tapped out list. In my experience, most times it feels like a dead draw even in my dredge based deck. How does this work as a win con compared to scavenging ooze which doesn't require a threshold to start working?

    • @cedhtv
      @cedhtv  Před 5 lety +1

      Avatar of Woe demands A huge creature oriented deck to work. If you have a deck that can get Avatar of Woe cast for only two black mana. Then it is close to a scavenging ooze.

    Great video but there is a very important condition: interactive win cons are better the smaller the Pod is. In 1v1 you may not need a single combo in your deck and can just win with a commander like breya and in 3 player pods it is much easier than with 4 but if you often play with 5, 6 or even more players, it is nearly impossible to kill everyone with combat damage from an ooze.

    Question: is Teferi’s Protection cedh viable?
    Also what are the viable partner commanders?

    • @cedhtv
      @cedhtv  Před 5 lety +2

      Teferi's protection: No, not really. You could go for some fringe strategy where you destroyed everything after this resolved. But in general no.
      Partners: So every partner is kind of valid because they give color identity. Tana is a good example of that. She is mostly there for color identity. The only thing that deck wants is Tymna and green red. So let's answer it like this.
      Partners that are good without color identity: Tymna, Thrasios, Kydele, Kraum, Silias renn and that is kinda it.

    • @alannisbet1646

      There are some different piles that sees play. Check out tappedout.net/mtg-decks/grenzo-ft-dj-doomsday-competitive-primer/ for a primer. At first i played a casual Grenzo gobbos deck there Goblin Assassin was the best card, it was alot of fun but not competative. Now i play a more strict combo with very few creatures, only fast mana and tutors + combo pieces. It wins quick but its not all dat fun, many games play out the same way.
