The SATs is why I like the German system more where you have a test in all different classes instead of having one big test for everything.
You just have to be good in the things you need for the career you want so if you suck in languages you can still become an engineer or if you suck at math you pick a different path that doesn't require much higher math.
I went into electrical engineering and they basically just looked at my physics and math results, most other things were more a bonus.
You just can't judge everyone the same because not everyone has the same things they are good or bad at.
They don't need to be though.

Teenagers if allowed will choose the worst things of all time to study subconsciously as an escape from what they studied till date. And once they hit a dead end, they start complaining to the system about less opportunities. Half hearted approach in studies is OK. It will fetch you a job for sure one day.
Now when a crazy-ass kid tells he loves playing guitar and will become a musician (while subconsciously he just wanted some attention from his high school peers) will have to settle for a waiter's job.

@@hotaru8589 That is the reason why there is always an adult to supervise these things and give advise.
I don't know how you do it in America but in Germany when you do your Abitur (in America it would probably be compared with High School) you can choose your subjects but there is always a system you have to follow. The subjects you will always have to choose are Language and Math because you WILL need those things in daily life and/or work even though you thought you didn't. Then you can choose two subjects you want your main focus on and it can be any subject as long as enough students choose it and a class can be formed. What I actually like about the system is that when you choose a subject you mostly always have to choose a subject of another category. For example if you want to concentrate in art you have to choose a mathematical subject (Math, Biologie, Physic, Chemie...).
This system does work but only if you are truly sure of what you want to do in the future. I for instance regretted having chosen history as one of my focuses and had to go through with it with bad grades and that ruined slightly my over all grades.

there are programs made for further studies after high school (högskoleförberedande program) and programs that will almost guarantee you a job in the particular branch/subject after your studies (yrkesprogram, usually not enough to go to study in a university/college after, you will have to go and study the required subjects you didnt study in high school depending on what you wanted to study in)

@Safwaan This is emotional pain that is speaking. You will get over it, it is just part of life and it will pass. It is not okay to criticize education system because we can not create a system that can benefit all. The system can stop you for a while from moving ahead but it can never fail you. So its pointless to complain about it. Not getting admission in college of choice can not define rest of your life. This may not sound good now but later in life when you will find everything just worked because you kept moving forward, a college degree never had any power over you. Its discipline and persistence that takes you places not your college degree.

Yes there are free responses in N/A type but even then it tests you quite differently. Ngl I will say that it's better since you learn much more and encourages you to think beyond what you learn. I'm sure people will have complaints about not testing students there properly but to be fair, she did graduate from a top university and had excellent teaching skills so it is an outlier. I'd say if it's designed optimally, NA tests would allow more people to get more basic understanding of more material whereas UK type of tests would allow you to get further in but a much narrower scope for most people. Maybe if I'm more motivated, I'd like to try studying in UK but for now, I'm definitely good.
