  • Had to get a new vice because the little tiny one that came with my house shit the bed. This is the Yost 905-AS. It's their "workshop" grade vice and so far I'm pretty impressed. There is nothing really professional about this vice but it appears to be built very well. Much better than big box store vices.

Houston we have a vice! To bring back a old vice from trash heap is logical thing to do!! Keep the movies rolling restoring crappy vices it's very relaxing!! Bye bye Chow!!!

The enclosed sheet is not a template. It clearly says, "Not to Scale. For reference only. Do not drill holes into the work table until you have received your vise and marked the holes using the mounting tabs on the vise." I have the same vise. It's great.

Don't forget about getting vices used mate. I recently got a used Record vice from eBay. Which are as highly regarded as Wilton vices. (Not the newer crap made in China after they got bought out by Irwin, but one of the older ones made in the UK) and the thing is a beast.

Agree, a UK made Record is excellent. IME, $100 budget only leads in one direction - buy a quality used vise and restore it. It's almost astounding; folks who do tool videos know zero about vises.Oh, wait, some have heard of Wilton. Great.

yeah goes to show a vise isn't where you get stingy and try to save money, you just gotta give guys with cheap vises credit that they're saving up for a really nice one and just need "a" vise right now. Congratulations on the arrival of your new baby. You're going to love that thing.

x1134x originally this was just going to be a temporary solution till I could spend like 400 on a forged vise, but this thing is actually plenty bad ass for many years of use

That old vise looks pretty low end. Homeowner grade tools are really only good for very light home use (cutting/drilling 2x4 lumber, cutting PVC pipe, etc). That vise is made in Taiwan out of steel so the quality should be pretty good. They also have a Taiwanese made forged steel version, which is stronger than a Wilton Bullet at half the price. TAIWAN NUMBER ONE! 中華民國萬歲!
