  • The 257-foot Great Lakes Engineering Works SS DELPHINE is the largest steam yacht built in the U.S. still in existence today. Her original owner, Horace Dodge of the Dodge automobile fame designed SS DELPHINE’s unique quadruple-expansion steam engines, which still work today. In 1942, she was placed into naval service and renamed USS Dauntless. After the war SS DELPHINE served as a steam ship-training vessel for 18 years. Various people owned SS DELPHINE and she later was left in increasing despair.
From 1997 to 2003, SS DELPHINE underwent a massive refit and restoration. She has been returned to her former glory thanks to investigation and extensive historical research by her owner’s daughter, SS DELPHINE again is capable of sailing the seven seas. She sleeps up to 26 passengers in 13 gorgeously appointed staterooms. The interior of SS DELPHINE artfully recreates the bygone era of the roaring 20s, however, she is fully outfitted with modern amenities and communication.

A unique piece of history. I hope whoever buys her takes good care of her. A genuine steam yacht is a rare and precious thing these days.

Enjoyed seeing the super Yacht that the Dodge family once owned, and also great full for the owner who restored the Yacht/Ship to it's former glory. Was also entertained && educated by your video. Thank you.

I have to question your claim of serving for 18 years as a Steam Training Ship after the war! My Father was a Deckhand aboard the Delphine during the Depression. During WW-II, it served as Admiral Kings Flagship. Many years later, with my Father being employed with Detroit Bank & Trust Co., the entire Dodge Estate & the Delphine were in his Portfolio of Trusts to maintain! Talk about coming full circle! When I was in the USCG, running a patrol boat out of Belle Isle CGSTA. in the mid 60's, she was still tied to the dock in front of the Dodge Estate!

Wonderful. This stern is amazing. When i saw propellers working was beautiful. The classic Style is good, because a boat seems a boat in my opinion.
