  • Hello, friends! Welcome back to my channel One Blessed Mess for this 2nd grade homeschool curriculum video! My 7 year old Maddie will be going into 2nd grade next year, so we are planning out the 2021-2022 school year and the curriculum is starting to roll in!
    If you are new here, hi and welcome! I'm Christie, and I'm a 2nd year homeschooling mom to 5 kids (ages 10, 9, 7, 2, and 5 months!) My husband and I pulled our kids out of public school last year, moved to our new house in the country, and haven't looked back! I love sharing my (authentic + honest) journey with you all, and hope you will join me as we navigate our footing in the world of homeschooling!

    Best advice ever: take a break and focus on what they are struggling with. Homeschooling is awesome because you can take it at their speed. Way to go mama!

    Your videos always inspire me😊 We were having a snag the other day and you just confirmed for me that its ok to just take a break and focus on basics. Thank you for sharing your picks, I'm definately going with the spelling and explode the code this year.

    I had to drop Level K for a few months with my little girl too. She’s finishing her first grade year, just finished level k. So starting in second grade she’ll be mostly in level 1 👍🏼

      Yes!!! It's encouraging to know that sometimes we don't finish a level "on time", but that homeschooling timeliness are completely different than public school! 🙌🤍

    Love your channel and thank you for sharing. We are using The Primer 1 from Cottage Press as part of his LA, and adding in some U.K. curriculum books too from Oxford English for Cambridge Primary, as well as Explore the code, TGATB handwriting, gratitude journal, reading book reviews, the Usborne First Creative Writing book, the Evan Moor spelling and lots of readers. So a few items similar your child x

    I am thinking about using TGTB math. My son is using Masterbooks right now and he’s bored, we have 1 month left and I don’t want to get another book. I really like how small the manipulative’s are and I’m hoping TGTB pace isn’t as slow as masterbooks.

  • @jerilyn-ourhomeschooltable

    I will have a 2nd grade girl next yesr too! We are using MathUSee Beta, BJU English 2, All About Spelling 2 (and possibly 3), Explode the Code 6, finishing Sonlight Science A from this year then using Abeka Health and Science 2, Sonlight History B, Song School Spanish 1, possibly some cursive, and BJU Bible Truths 2. I’m also trying to find some character resources right now. So we’ll see how that goes.
    We have an Art unit from Yellow Spot:Sun (Impressionist), but we never got past lesson 1 or 2 this year...so maybe we’ll work on that. 😂

    Can I ask how you plan your week plz? I’m having a hard time deciding if we should do math, LA, reading 5 days a week history and science etc. or do everything every day? We are doing sonlight for LA and science, Beautiful feet books for history, happy cheetah for reading, touch math for math, artistic pursuits for art. This will also be our third year homeschooling. Wow time flies. But I still can’t figure it out, we have had a HARD time finding curriculum that works for my daughter. We finally did and it’s all over the place

    Hi. First time homeschooling a 2nd grader 😅 For the good and the beautiful (Lang. Arts and literature) do you suggest to start at level 1? According to my son's first grade teacher he is reading at a 5th grade level. Do you also use any online programs? Homeschooling was a last minute decision so I'm trying my best to get his curriculum together 😅

    • @OneBlessedMess
      @OneBlessedMess  Před 3 lety

      Hi there!! They have placement tests available on their website to better guage what level he should be in! ☺ I use Teaching Textbooks as part of our math curriculum and love it! It's all online and has an app you can download on any device!

    Does your spelling workbook cover spelling rules?

    • @OneBlessedMess
      @OneBlessedMess  Před 3 lety +1

      It doesn't - however, it does split lists into different "themes" (like words ending in -ed, or compound words, etc.) It also has a section about different spelling strategies!

    Hi! I have an upcoming 2nd grader and kindergartener for 21-22 school year. Do you feel that my 2nd grader should start in Level 1 or should we stick with the Level by grade?! I'm very torn! Thank you!

    • @OneBlessedMess
      @OneBlessedMess  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi!! They have placement tests on their website to better guage where your child should start! 🤍 There is nothing wrong with being a level (or even 2!) below their grade level because it tends to be on the advanced side!

    • @kerricrofutt6560
      @kerricrofutt6560 Před 3 lety

      @@OneBlessedMess Thank you! I did review their placement tests but feel that she already learned most, if not all of the level 1 curriculum in her online program this year in first grade.. but they said that if she doesn't pass the level 2 assessment that she should do level 1... just confuses me a bit!!

    • @kerricrofutt6560
      @kerricrofutt6560 Před 3 lety

      And I did see that your 2nd grader was on level 2, so I thought maybe I shouldn't be too worried about moving to level 2 as a first timer with TGTB?!
