    Update, I just got hired on and went through orientation. The first day is all video training, the 2nd day you get 7 hours of forklift training. The 3rd day your paired up with your trainer and you start doing the job. I hope this helps Also I'm at Sams Club distribution center so I don't know if theres anything different. I can also tell you we don't have to pick orders we basically do cross docking out of my center

    What happens if you don’t meet your times for receiving and they hold you accountable do they fire you or put you in a different position I don’t wanna transfer from my other job if they just fired you like that I have a mortgage payment I just came from my walk around. I need to decide if I’m going to take the job please let me know as soon as possible.

      They give new hires now 6 months I believe to reach 100 percent. It used to be 3 months. Each week you are expected to improve a little bit. First week think your required to run like 50 I think. My first day I ran 78. Very few don’t make those requirements. I wouldn’t worry about that
      Really the hardest thing at first is the stacking. So many boxes are different sizes and heights and it can be hard at first how to stack. You’re going to brake and drop trips at first. I can guarantee it
      Ask your trainer and other co workers for advice on what to do and what they recommend. If they can tell your willing to learn and will try they will help you out

      Things have changed now in the last couple of years.
      Some dc’s will let help come in. Some of those that come in to help still may not reach there 40 hours or they may go just right past it but not by much. I’ve heard of some dc’s who employers working 50+ hours if they want to. May just depend on how far behind your dc is

    Great video man! Very informative. I’ve applied at my local Walmart dc. Was just curious in your opinion, would you see the position as a freight handler being a long term career or just a short term job?

    • @tb12olemiss
      @tb12olemiss  Pƙed 2 měsĂci

      I enjoy the time off, pay, and benefits but there’s not many out there that do this 10-20+ years. It is hard work and it’s a young man’s job to be honest. Most either transfer or quit and don’t do it for 10-20+ years

    • @kylecunningham6636
      @kylecunningham6636 Pƙed 2 měsĂci

      I know every dc is probably different but would you say there’s room for advancement if you start out as a freight handler and maybe a few years down the road be able to say move up to supervisor? I was just curious the work I do is similar to it but where I’m at the vacation stinks and there’s no room to advance. I was hoping somewhere like Walmart you could start at the bottom and work your way up

      @@kylecunningham6636 lots of opportunities to move up. Of course you have lots of different opportunities on the dry side and cold side. Orderfilling, hauling, loading, lift driver, etc. Have office jobs, managers, supervisors, yard drivers, truck drivers, maintenance and so many other things to choose from. Some are not worth it at all to me but some are worth doing. Also on my shift it’s harder to move up because it was a hard shift to get on in the first place and most of the veterans are on this shift. Most of new hires go to weekend and night shift. Also weekends and night you have more people quitting. Opportunity’s may come up on something your interesting in but may not be on the shift you want. That’s a problem me and others run into is we don’t want to change shifts
