Between 1971 and 1977 Ali fought 25 times including Jerry Quarry, Ken Norton (3 times), Joe Frazier (3 times) and GEORGE FOREMAN, RON LYLE and ERNIE SHAVERS. Ali's skills: Legendary, Ali's chin: impregnable; Ali's ring generalship: Supreme; Ali's Legacy: Immortal.
Ali's chin wasn t impregnable; it was his speed and the fact that his head was usually moving backwards when he got hit, which took the sting out of his opponent's punches. The hits that hurt him, were the ones that he didn't see coming: Best example, was Joe's left hook that decked him, and when Ken broke his jaw.

@@ATATURKdusmanlarininAMK_NJ One of the best but not the best of all. I would give that title to Archie Moore. Ali beat Moore but Archie was about 49 years old when he fought Ali. At the end when he’s standing saying to the crowd I am the greatest gave me shivers. Like he knew it was getting harder but he was not prepared to give up his throne. A true great warrior in a modern era.
Ali always promoted that ref's should stop fights earlier, because when a fighter takes 20 shots in a row, that's sufficient evidence that the fighter can't defend himself, and another 10 or 20 can do permanent damage or even kill him. When I think of the best part of human nature, this aspect of Ali always comes to my mind.
Lyle had the uncanny ability to remain standing when he was out cold almost. Foreman hit him with some bombs, but he just stood in the corner. Finally, Foreman stepped back and let him fall. This was a good stoppage.
Nonsense. If that's the case, then you could make the same arguments during the second and third Frazier-Ali battles, when Joe had Ali all but dead on his feet. Joe had the reputation of being able to fight back while VERY hurt. Why didn't the ref stop those bouts and give the title back to Joe?

Everything he did was purposeful.
Ali is unbelievably smart in the ring. After watching Foreman and Lyles war and how Ali took him out in about a minute is pretty unreal. Big respect aswell for the way he backed off waiting for the ref to wave it off wen he knew Lyle was done. That's a really decent thing to do. Legend
It's just funny how Ali can look scared -because of his movement- away from other fighter at the beginning of his fights. Next thing you know he's standing directly in front of them, beating the hell out of them with nothing but short and accurate punches 😂
Ali and Howard had a special relationship and they obviously liked each other a lot. When Howard goes into his phony speech about Ali being utterly shaken before this fight Ali's eyes light up with humor and Howard is laughing as the interview ends. Not enough has ever been said about the power of Ali to take punches and not get knocked out. Ali was special for many reasons but his ability to take punches from the hardest punchers of his day and just keep fighting is mind boggling.
Smart . Ali was the athlete of the 20th century. People can debate who is no. 2 but there is NO debate about no.1. He is the GOAT in the world of sports. At his peak he was probably the most famous person on Earth.

Another all-time great, the late Alexis Arguello was also a gentleman in the ring and showed concerned for his opponents. He destroyed them with sheer power from both hands, but never wanted to seriously hurt anybody.
As Ali starts to dance, his opponents know right away that this shit gonna end bad for them. By the end of round 10 or 11 most of the boxers are tired and are vulnerable. Ali waits for that time and knocks them out effortlessly. That's the beauty of his boxing style. Just dance and chill....
Bernard Liu He comes across as a principled person in the interviews but then again he was due for a hearing for shooting at his wife so you can never be too certain
Rope-a-dope is NOT an easy tactic to execute. Otherwise every boxer would use this. Norton tried it against Shavers and got KO in 1st. Ali was able to improvise knowing that Lyle was not falling for it. He wore him down, got the opening and moved in for the kill.

@mortcola george chuvalo walking through todays Hws? Don't make me laugh he gets beat by majority of top comp.
Ali was awesome, no one before or since like him, an American treasure!
A global treasure we should say!
Ron Lyle…deserves to be more widely remembered. What a good boxer. Very dignified. I don’t think the prison thing needed to be brought up twice over in the second interview. Yet he kept cool about it.
I was thinking the very same thing he was well spoken polite and dignified something that a lot of people could and should learn from.
1 of muhammad ali toughest opponents
It can be hard to watch fights in this era of Ali's careee when he starting regularly absorbing punishment. With that being said, it was also the period where he established himself and the 'GOAT' with crafty performances.
Can't think of any other champs who have their mother at their fights and who talk so lovingly of him! And Ali's pre fight interview just so entertaining. And all before fifteen brutal rounds! RIP GOAT👊
Such a true CHAMPION! Ali looks to the ref, you need to stop this right now, What a sportsman & gentleman you were Ali, the greatest........
He was a genius. First he tired the monster Lyle then he stood in front of him and exchanged strikes moved faster and connected, Lyle was vulnerable then, and so he got the TKO, definitely Ali's condition and intelligence place him as one of the best boxers in history.
the best...
Not one of the best he is the best of all
Bless your heart.
@@ATATURKdusmanlarininAMK_NJ Ali is whole nother level of fighter. The cleanest hardest shots with composure in the ring
@@ATATURKdusmanlarininAMK_NJ One of the best but not the best of all. I would give that title to Archie Moore. Ali beat Moore but Archie was about 49 years old when he fought Ali. Moore fought 219 professional bouts and won 184 of them, about 130 of them by KO's. Moore was a light heavyweight but fought many heavyweights during his career. He KO'd more opponents than any other boxer in history. His boxing career spanned about 27 years.
Lyle looked even scarier than Foreman at that time, very intimidating face and physique
For real Lyle is jacked here, what a unit
Ali was just brilliant because he had Ron Lyles thinking he was going to use the rope a dope. Ali STILL managed to make Lyle use up his stamina and finished him! BRILLIANCE!

Ali after what I'd say was his prime physically but his intelligence! Amazing boxer, the true greatest!
At the end when he’s standing saying to the crowd I am the greatest gave me shivers. Like he knew it was getting harder but he was not prepared to give up his throne. A true great warrior in a modern era.
Thank you very much for posting this! What a personality Ali was!
@@demef758 Ali in those fights wasn't taking several punches unanswered though.
@@jeffmurray1681 but foreman was the opposite in the fight of him and Ken norto gave him two blow almost on the ground there is one of that that the referee is separating and however he hit it while Ali saw him fall and did not make him more shot when he could take off foreman's head ali the boxing legend
@@demef758 because Joe never saw himself winning the first fight they had against Ali vs. Joe Ali was the winner came out clean while Joe could not see it, and the fight that you say Ali stayed upright for Joe to get tired and the second fight was by choice. and the third knocked out

Great tactics. To stop a beast like Lyle, it takes a master boxer.
That was a great fight. Ali was victorious but Lyle fought a good fight. Ali showing concern about the referee not stopping the fight and him not wanting to continuously pound the guy Ali was such a good humanitarian. Rest in peace Muhammad Ali.

Muhammad Ali always No 1
Ali was a tactical fighter with beautiful movements .RIP greatest of all time
Ali was giving him breaks rather than viciously knock him out . He invited the referee to stop the fight. He was a great man. RIP GOAT
No lies. Watch the finish of Foreman and Ali, as Foreman was falling Ali could have hit at least once but held back to watch him fall. Foreman acknowledged that fact and praised Ali for it
Twice he stopped and waited on the ref. I don't think Lyle was aware how bad off he was.
@@wjopw4889 You're 100% incorrect. Foreman punched himself out, he fell from exhaustion not from anything Ali did. Re-watch the fight.
Lol this is false.

A heavyweight, who could move the way Ali could (eg: round 5), is an extremely rare, and truly incredible thing, to be sure.
Everyone will remember Muhammad Ali forever
Lyle was up: Bill Kipp 49-43 | Art Lurie 46-45 | John Mangriciana 46-46 at the time of the stoppage.
And Ron Lyle is not a bum. He was a powerful underrated boxer who could knock you out with either hand. Whoever said he was a bum should do their research.

The absolute beauty of how he finishes. He doesn't want to injure his man. What a great sportsman. Men like Ali and Fury have a voice and a presence that make them great. They deserve to be champs because they are genuine.

I’m watching it in 2024! I think of my uncle every time I watch classic boxing.
He doesn't want any amateurs to try this. There was never one as funny and charismatic and never will be

Back then, even convicts had more class than the foul-mouthed boxers we have today.
Today's bunch are not in that class of 70s
You said it and not only that I really believe any top 10 boxer from those days could wipe the floor with every boxer that's stepped in the ring in the last 20 years with the exception of 3 could be 1 maybe 2 others but I doubt it
You made that comment here. Ali started the crap talk, he is the OG. Ffs.
@@doublecrossedswine112 Yes, but he didn't lace his trash talk with expletives every other word like the guys are doing today, for all the boxing fans and their kids to hear on TV or online. I don't know who started that profanity bullshit, but it wasn't Ali and his peers in the 60's and 70's. And Ali wasn't the original trash talker. Even at an old age Ali was still The Greatest Boxer
you can see how far from his best ali was and yet he performs so well
Ali's Mother is sweetheart.
We've lost a one of kind superstar. What he did to boxing was unparalleled!
I can't comprehend Howard Cosell ever saying that a fight with Ali in the ring could or would be "boring" or "dull". Ali was and remains the ONLY boxer who had the ability to stir excitement whether he was throwing or strategizing. Watching Ali has always been like being in a master class. Everything he did was purposeful.
You obviously never saw his bore of a fight with Joe Bugner,
Ali is unbelievably smart in the ring. After watching Foreman and Lyles war and how Ali took him out in about a minute is pretty unreal.
Big respect aswell for the way he backed off waiting for the ref to wave it off wen he knew Lyle was done. That's a really decent thing to do. Legend
Ali hit a lot harder than we give him credit for. The timing, unreal.
It's just funny how Ali can look scared -because of his movement- away from other fighter at the beginning of his fights. Next thing you know he's standing directly in front of them, beating the hell out of them with nothing but short and accurate punches 😂
57:35 “Muhammad Ali, The Way He Can BE at 33” Nice 👍 rhymes Howard Cossell
Man, that 5th round when he starts to dance again… Not as fast or smooth as his younger days, but still a thing of beauty.
Ali not only was bigger than boxing but also a wonderful person. May God grant you eternal paradise!

So good to see Ali's mom. May they RIP.
Beautiful Fight Beautiful stop
Ali and Howard had a special relationship and they obviously liked each other a lot. When Howard goes into his phony speech about Ali being utterly shaken before this fight Ali's eyes light up with humor and Howard is laughing as the interview ends.
Not enough has ever been said about the power of Ali to take punches and not get knocked out. Ali was special for many reasons but his ability to take punches from the hardest punchers of his day and just keep fighting is mind boggling.
I have seen Michael Jackson perform and Michael Jordan on the court. Would trade both to see Ali in the ring.
Smart . Ali was the athlete of the 20th century. People can debate who is no. 2 but there is NO debate about no.1. He is the GOAT in the world of sports.
At his peak he was probably the most famous person on Earth.
Big facts
Blessed are u and give thanks for havin to have such experiences! I can’t say I’d go as far as to trade the two but man I’d have loved to see Michael Jackson, Jordan, and Tyson all perform at the prime of there respective crafts, but unfortunately I was either a lil baby or hadn’t been conceived!
lol Ali was the greatest troll of all time. That opening bell walk of his was great
I hope Lyle worked with young offenders because when you consider his background and listening to him speak, you just know that he could have had an enormous influence in turning people's lives around.
When he talks, you listen.
Loved the way they used to introduce other current and retired Boxing legends before the bout.
What a sympathetic guy, Ron Lyle was. R.I.P. Lyle was totally defenceless when the ref stopped the Bout. Most Fighters would have gone down. What a chin Lyle had.

Rope-a-dope is NOT an easy tactic to execute. Otherwise every boxer would use this. Norton tried it against Shavers and got KO in 1st. Ali was able to improvise knowing that Lyle was not falling for it. He wore him down, got the opening and moved in for the kill.
