    It brings a tear to ones eye to know how humane Ali was whilst defending his title, called for referees to stop fights early enough not inflict permanent damage to his opponents. You won’t see this kind of sportsmanship today.

    Between 1971 and 1977 Ali fought 25 times including Jerry Quarry, Ken Norton (3 times), Joe Frazier (3 times) and GEORGE FOREMAN, RON LYLE and ERNIE SHAVERS. Foreman, Lyle and Shavers have got to be seen as three of the hardest punchers in the division- ever . Ali's skills: Legendary, Ali's chin: impregnable; Ali's ring generalship: Supreme; Ali's Legacy: Immortal.

    • @d.e.b.b5788
      @d.e.b.b5788 Před 4 lety +20

      Ali's chin wasn t impregnable; it was his speed and the fact that his head was usually moving backwards when he got hit, which took the sting out of his opponent's punches. The hits that hurt him, were the ones that he didn't see coming: Best example, was Joe's left hook that decked him, and when Ken broke his jaw.

    • @mortcola
      @mortcola Před 2 lety +6

      ...and...Ali had a different kind of power. Efficient, accelerated, torqued, and placed perfectly. Listen - actually listen to the shot Ali landed to begin the end in the 11th. It sounded like a small explosion, and Lyle, who was extremely hard to hurt or keep hurt, lost motor control. Like most Ali KO victims, that blindingly fast and accurate shot froze his legs and disoriented him. Ask any of Ali's victims....
      Zora Folley:
      ""The right hands Ali hit me with just had no business landing-but they did. They came from nowhere. Many times he was in the wrong position but he hit me anyway. Blatt! and the punch connected. I've never seen anyone who could do that. The knockdown punch was so fast that I never saw it. He has lots of snap, and when the punches land they dizzy your head; they fuzz up your mind.
      "The first time I went down, I wasn't hurt, but I didn't know what had happened. Suddenly I became aware of the noise and then I saw Ali standing over me, and I figured I was down...He's smart. The trickiest fighter I've seen. He's had 29 fights and acts like he's had a hundred. He could write the book on boxing, and anyone that fights him should be made to read it first...There's just no way to train yourself for what he does: the moves, the speed, the punches and the way he changes style every time you think you got him figured...Ali is something else. I fought middleweights, even smaller men and they weren't as fast. This guy has a style all of his own. It's far ahead of any fighter's around".
      Chuvalo, who'd walk through today's heavyweights, commented that he was sure he could negate Ali's speed, but then saw that, in real life, its hard to comprehend what's in front of you, how the shots that you don't see jar you, feel like being electrocuted rather than hit by a club, or even just a punch.

    Ali always promoted that ref's should stop fights earlier, because when a fighter takes 20 shots in a row, that's sufficient evidence that the fighter can't defend himself, and another 10 or 20 can do permanent damage or even kill him. When I think of the best part of human nature, this aspect of Ali always comes to my mind.
