  • Restored NASA documentary about the Saturn I rocket development. The first ten launches are shown in detail.
AI upscale (Topaz AI) was used to resample the film to full HD resolution. While it works in most cases, some artifacts are present in some sequences.
To prevent any issues, original music was removed and replaced with generic themes or ambient sound.
Sound and image cleanup, conversion to original 24 fps frame rate, geometry correction and AI upscale and color restoration by RetroSpace HD.

Awesome AI upgrade picture! Really REALLY awesome!! I know all this footage by heart being a space nerd and all, but I'm constantly saying "wowwwwwww" out loud over and over. Thank you for the hard work you put into this

The other nice thing about Saturn I is it's flight record. 10 vehicles for 10 successful launches!
No one could top that until Saturn V upped the ante with her quality and reliability.
And then Falcon 9, cranking off launch after launch like a Saturn Missile Battery, now how do you beat that?

So funny how I watch a ton of Space YT content but have never seen Retro Space HD until today. I mean...if Scott Manley supports these efforts, it's gotta be good. :D

Once the Saturn I test programme was completed and NASA moved onto the Saturn IB NASA missed an opportunity for the Saturn I Block I and II rockets to be used for the launch of large satellites especially ones on interplanetary missions.

Something else that this documentary doesn't mention concerning SA-6 and SA-7 is that SA-6 also was the test of the LAS jettison rocket-motor (It had inert abort and pitch rocket-motors) under operational conditions and SA-7 tested the backup jettison mode (It had inert jettison and pitch rocket-motors) of the LES using the abort rocket-motor instead.

On the side, this is a useful documentary for the flatearthers and nonbelivers of the moon landing

    Vertical Assembly Building?

According to the wiki it was named the Vertical Assembly Building prior to February 3, 1965 and the Vehicle Assembly Building after February 3, 1965. This film must have beeen before that date.

    我认为土星一号很强大很实用,但是为什么没有别的国家模仿这个设计呢?

SpaceX Boca Chica has the same sense of awe as this film evokes.

Agreed. Building the launch pad, booster and manufacturing facilities at once while testing everything. Insane.
