BESCHREIBUNG
Für 2020 war ein anders besetztes Frisell-Trio geplant. Der Künstler, der damals den visuellen Part im Konzert übernommen hätte, fällt 2021 weg. Das mag einerseits bedauerlich sein, andererseits öffnet dieser „Verlust“ ein Tor, das in die Weiten akustischer Landschaften führt. Und der Vorteil ist, dass die passenden Bilder in den Köpfen der Zuhörer entstehen. Dies wiederum ermöglicht ein maximales Maß an Individualität. Für Exkursionen solcher Art sind nur wenige Musiker besser geeignet als Bill Frisell. Einer, der alle Zeit der Welt in eine Note packen kann, der melodische Einfälle auf 1001 Art variiert.
Bill Frisell ist ein Zauberer an der elektrischen Gitarre und wurde zu Beginn der achtziger Jahre durch Platten von ECM bekannt. Er war nie ein Schnellspieler, ihm geht es seit Anbeginn um jeden einzelnen Ton. Jeder erhält eine herausragende Bedeutung, so wie jede Pause eine solche erhält. Kein Gitarrist, der derart Stimmungen erzeugt, der dermaßen unverwechselbar ist, wie Frisell.
Was Bill Frisell (auch beteiligt an den Filmmusiken zu u. a. „Walk The Line“ und „Finding Forrester“) besonders auszeichnet, sind seine Fähigkeiten als Kommunikator und Klangmaler. Es geht ihm nie um solistische Zurschaustellung. Mit seinen Partnern Thomas Morgan und Rudy Royston (vor Jahren schon einmal mit Donny McCaslin beim Jazzfrühling) besteht eine enge Verzahnung. Hier reagiert jeder auf jeden und der Schlagzeuger ist gleichberechtigter Melodiker. Überhaupt ist Royston ein feinsinniger Vertreter seiner Spezies und Morgan liefert die inspirierende Basis für die fesselnden, immer wieder variierenden und doch so nachvollziehbaren Exkursionen der Mitmusiker. Melodien schwirren umher, werden umgedeutet, zerlegt, wieder zusammengesetzt, verändern die Farbe und kommen zurück zum Ausgangspunkt. Eine Reise um die Welt in 90 Minuten.
Auch weil Frisell stilistisch keine Grenzen kennt. Blues, Country, Folk und natürlich die ganze Jazzgeschichte werden zu einem eigenständigen Ganzen integriert. Besucher dieses Konzerts haben die Möglichkeit, akustische in visuelle Eindrücke zu überführen und wieder zurück - ganz nach eigenem Belieben. Wo bekommt man schon eine derartige Bewusstseinserweiterung in den Schoß gelegt?

He presents as an absent minded professor, but what a beautiful musical mind, and fingers to match. Fantastic band working quiet miracles behind him.
I recall meeting him before a performance of his back in the mid 90s. He was *extremely* shy, and he had the most timid handshake. But, oh, what a performance! One of the top five shows I've ever seen, and I've seen a *lot* of shows over the years. Yes, very much an absent minded professor, quiet, retiring. I can see why he doesn't want to have to interact with the public. I wouldn't, either.
Bill is always spiritually calm and brilliant! Awesome musicians and music.

Lucky enough to see this trio in Boulder a few years back. What a great experience. Over the last few year's I have seen a few of my favorite guitar players. Pat Metheny, Julian Lage, Dweezil Zappa and Adrian Belew but Bill was my personal favorite. So smooth it isn't funny Rudy and Thomas both fantastic player's as well.I hope they come back to Colorado in 22
