ASUS ROG G752 Nvidia 970m Gaming Laptop Review

  • The Specific Model is: ROG G752VT-RH71
    I've had the Asus g752 for 2 months now and its been incredible! Despite some of the cons of it, it is well worth the money. I will eventually upgrade my hard drive to an SSD. The g752 has officially replaced my desktop computer and I'm so glad I went with this. The Gsync and 75hz screen along with amazing cooling is what sealed the deal of it.
    If you guys have any questions or would like to see anything else regarding this laptop then please let me know. Thank you!

    Very nice review...to the point, succinct and brief without leaving anything out of major importance. I only question your disappointment with the speakers. I haven't had any sound issues regarding clarity. I have the G752VY-RH71 (had it about a month now) and I concur with everything you mention expect for the audio. My one pet peeve is the font..hard to read and I wish there was white lighting available. other then that I'm glad I got one of these...wonderful machine!

      +Vore Tex Thank you! The speakers are definitely better than other laptops I've owned, but I'm so used to the incredible sound from my big jambox and mini jambox that when i listen to music from the laptop speakers it doesn't give off the kind of bass like the big jambox and the highs aren't as clear as I would have liked. I expected them to be better with how much the system costs. Thanks for your input :)

      Since you both have G752's, I would like to ask you a question. Within the past few months I have owned a G751JT, G751JY and a G752VY-DH72. The latter two models were provided by Asus after I fought with them over the poor wireless throughput and sound issues of the G751 series. Eventually I got them to upgrade me to the G752 due to all the problems. I bought my laptop to use as a laptop so I typically am gaming over wireless and have never had issues with my previous Alienware or consoles that I have wireless in my home. Every few minutes my ping will spike and I get massive rubber banding that will go away in ~4 seconds, but this makes playing anything online really frustrating. This seems to plague both Intel Wireless cards used in these ROG Laptops being the Intel AC7260 and the AC8260. There are many reports about the 7260 card but none yet on the 8260 but I am still having this issues with the new G752. Have you two noticed these issues?

    Just bought this including an official backpack, headset and mouse as a bundle for just £900 from Overclockers. I downgraded from an Alienware 15 with a 980m card and 4k screen, but so far I'm very pleased with the decision. It's far from perfect for many of the reason you mentioned. I also think that the laptop could have been much nicer inside, both the keyboard surround and display itself, as it's surrounded by a fat bezel! But there's nothing majorly wrong with this beast, just minor gripes, and it does have a good few legit positives such as the cooling, while I really like the display itself despite a bit of back-light bleed.

    Very good and REALISTIC review, some things i would like to point out:
    1. The boot up is slow because of no SSD.
    2. The sharp edges can be worked away if u put the laptop in an angle. e.a: putting it on a cooling pad. i got mine setup on the Cooler master Notepal u3 plus so my handpalms doesn't scratch the edge.

      @alkos7  Před 8 lety

      +Yves Martens Thank you :) I will eventually get a SSD installed on this because i am getting so annoyed with the slow boot up. And I've gotten used to the sharp edge so it doesn't bother me as much, but I end up wearing long sleeves to prevent it

    Good video, but I just wanted to point something out, that maybe somebody already did but I am of course not going to read all the comments lol. Anyway, the Gsync lag you refer to isn't actually Gsync lag, it's Vsync lag, the way Gsync functions (up until about a month or so before posting this where they added a feature to turn off Vsync) is by varrying the refresh rate of the panel (as you probably know). But what most people didn't realize, is that with Gsync enabled, it by default turns on Vsync when you go above the panels refresh rate (ie 75hz in this case) so that the image is still tear and stutter free, but this introduces the Vsync lag that everyone hates. With games that are easier to run (ie CSGO) it will turn on vsync at 75hz. This is the perceived lag you feel, now with Gsync you can simply tell it to turn off Gsync AND Vsync when you go above the panels refresh rate which is nice.

    • @alkos7
      @alkos7  Před 8 lety

      I did notice with 1 of the driver updates, that it no longer turns on vsync by default which is nice and you're right it was vsync lag but has been corrected by default (who knows maybe they saw my video haha)

    • @EthanWord
      @EthanWord Před 8 lety

      On Point Reviews maybe so lol, it's nice to have it fixed. This video is a big part of the reason I actually own a G752 now, got the 965M model, added a 1TB SSD and it's awesome. Also added 32GB more RAM (this one had 12GB stock) so 44GB in total now, and eventually I'm planning on grabbing 2 more SSD's for the M.2 slots.

    hi there, Nice review, i do have a question about the Battery. if i cant remove it, this means that by playing with the power supply connected (so i dont use it with the battery only) i will reduce the battery life span? what i mean is? by no using it on by pass on the house and have it connected for long periods of time, this will kill my battery pretty soon, yes? if so, do have to unplug the power cord every full charge? this will be exhausting.... (sorry the grammar, my english istn that good) greetings...

    • @alkos7
      @alkos7  Před 8 lety

      No, i don't think it will ruin the battery. My battery life is still good. Plus, you need to keep the laptop plugged in while you play games. Otherwise, the games FPS will drop dramatically because the computer will reduce the performance so it can run.

    • @khazms
      @khazms Před 8 lety

      In my opinion, Alienware wins in the end. Though I do have the G752, I would buy an AW any day if I had a little more money. Here are some pros/cons IMO
      *Pros*:
      It's future-proof. You can buy an AW Amp to upgrade to GTX 980 TI
      Longest battery life for a gaming laptop of its price range.
      *Cons (Not that bad)*:
      For cheaper models, there is no SSD, however you can always buy an m.2 SSD.
      It tends to get hot, but not that hot. You can always buy an external cooler if it does.
      This laptop is just as good, but it isn't future proof. The only good thing about this laptop is you can upgrade its ram, but what's the point of that at 16 GB? 16 GB is more than sufficient. More than that is overkill. The only good thing is you can upgrade storage, but really for people like me, I'd never take up more than 1tb. (plus this model has a 128gb SSD) So, its "upgrade-ability" is not a pro nor a con for me.
      Overall though, for a gaming laptop that you want for long term (5-7 years) AW is the best option. In the end, desktops are the permanent (7-10+ years) solution.

    • @LordLancifer
      @LordLancifer Před 8 lety

    This is a year too late comment but i guess when you were using this keyboard for 2 months, you were just using the 1tb hard drive without any M.2 SSD installed. Maybe that's the reason why it took so long to boot up.

      +Mahmoud Nhmedo its because windows has your keyboard set to "united kingdom keyboard". You need to switch it back to "united states". To do that, go to "control panel" then to "clock, language, region", then "language" and from there you should be able to find and select as default "united states keyboard". If you are having trouble finding language then search windows for "language

      @alkos7  Před 8 lety

      When I got my laptop, they split the hdd into 2 with 250gb for OS and 750gb for everything else. Every game I installed went to the OS partition. (maybe theres a way to switch the default path to the HDD). You can still download things to the HDD if you select "save target as" and then select the folder on the HDD. You can change the default path of your downloads in chrome by going to settings then to advanced settings. Also, the storage shows a little less because Windows has always calculated hard drives as powers of 1024 while hard drive manufacturers use powers of 1000. You can see more here: www.howtogeek.com/123268/windows-hard-drive-wrong-capacity/

    DO NOT BUY THIS LAPTOP. I bought the G752VY about 5 months ago and it has given me endless hardware and software problems, most of them unsolvable. The only tech support comes in the form of user forums, which are of minimal help. As of now my laptop is at an asus service center awaiting a screen replacement. (I have never moved the laptop from its place since i bought it. It has been treated very well.

      Im pretty much stuck with it. In Malaysialand, there are no such things as refunds, or consumer rights. Latest update, the screen and keyboard was just replaced about a week ago due to hardware failure. They fucked up and fitted a non g-sync capable screen instead, so now i have to go there again tomorrow morning for them to sort it out. Fuck ASUS.

    youre too nitpicky😂 you go into personal reasons that no one cares about,you say "minor" things as cons. Change youre structure of youre review and stop the monotone
