That's the pinnacle of modern defense.... that's why no more dribblers like ronaldinho or zidane in these new era because defenders will never try to take the ball and just anticipate their path. Unlike back in the days defender will mindlessly launch a tackle to take the ball
@@D3MZIR would be a slow process but it’s not impossible if you have the vision and the right people look at Leicester city even though they got relegated last season they still worked their way from the lower leagues to win the premier league. I can’t listen to sheep on the internet and the media who exaggerate and make things look worse than they actually are I use my own brain.
Thing is pressing can be outmatched by a good dribbler of the ball everyone knows that and am not even talking messi-level. Press is an attempt to cut on the passing options
It depends on your teammates as well... If you press like Mane does, but your teammates don't block other passing options, then it's useless... Eventually you'll stop doing it as well... This requires proper coaching and instructions, and everyone sharing the same vision
Mane was brilliant at pressing team’s defences so was our whole attack and midfield but it felt like Mane got the most goals out of it the FA Cup semi final against City for example
Missed the most important part: you don't generally press to instantly recover the ball. You press to lock the opponent into a position with no outlet and force a mistake. As a striker you press the ball out wide to the fullback while covering the passing lane back towards the centreback. If your teammates on the wing, midfield and fullback help the fullback has nowhere to go. That is the whole idea of pressing. The Liverpool example was actually a poor one. If the opponents' midfield was more proactive they would have easily circumvented the press by dropping deeper in the hole behind the pressingstrikers to give the goalie an outlet since Liverpools midfield did not press up behind them and there was a massive gap between attack and midfield and massive passinglanes between the front 3 when the GK was on the ball. Liverpool is great at pressing but the example used was bad and it went Liverpools way not because of their pressing but the opponents complacency. I'd think twice about signing up with someone who can not make the distinction between lucky successful pressing and actual good pressing.
I'm not even a football player but I feel I learnt some valuable information. Information I will never use but nonetheless I seem glad I hv gained this knowledge
It wasn’t long ago Harry redknapp, who was an actual manager at the time, was saying he didn’t believe in this and ‘we always put a shift in’. There are not many people left in the game who won’t adapt to new tactics and ideas
Different situations. In the first take the defender near by the center circle of the field while the second clip the defenders were in the back in their zones 😂
Heres a tip that works wonders for me: you and your teammates have to "press" slowly, what i mean is that you have to move as a block while getting closer to the ball and blocking possible passes, when the player that has the ball in possession doubts for a second the nearest pressing player has to sprint full speed towards him (and still trying to block the pass) but when you are about to get to his position you slow down, again you make him doubt and this can lead to a weak pass (loses tempo and has to hurry up so you dont snitch the ball) or imprecise or a risky one with the goalkeeper or cdm, or excessive power on the passing leading to a harder control on the receiver. The best way to counter this is by luring the pressing player after he slowed down and dribble past him but that is super risky and the majority of defenders lack the technique or skill to be able to do this (compared to attackers) or even dare to do it (specially when they are the last man)
My son never stops pressing he’s like a machine I don’t know how he’s gets the energy but he makes teams make mistakes then everyone else joins in but that’s in under 10s football
It will be different if your opponent Mancity, they make you feel good enough for pressing but suddenly they flow the ball and make you exhausted, then attack your team
if the middle player pass is it to the wing back and the wing back takes a touch wide u need to press them, the striker needs to know when to press and when he presses the other players need to follow
it's not about reading the pass, if you ever played in a real match you can notice the worst ball keeper in your opponent, the worst players on the pitch, which usually defenders, when they have the ball, that's when you press, you don't press someone that could beat you one on one
