Interview with Rudolf Carnap on German TV, 1964. I don't have copyrights to this video, just share with the hope that someone could translate it. Captions: d.pr/f/VsvO
In my courses on these famous philosophers in history, I find that the only true way to understand what they were thinking is to watch interviews with them. Obviously this is only possible with "modern" philosophers, but it always surprises me the convoluted nature in which their works are presented to students, like jigsaw pieces far removed from the rest of the puzzle. Hearing interviews like these demystifies their works and provides necessary context. Thank you for posting, and thank you to those who helped translate it.
It is so great that you have posted this video. Thank you so much. It is really inspiring to see Rudolf Carnap himself talking. Do you have the full interview? I soon will post the translation of this part of the interview.
Dear issoeocio1, Andreas Wimmer, I am very grateful to you both for making this happen. I don't speak German, so I have come to this page countless times since issoecio1 uploaded the interview, trying to understand one more word each time, without much progress. Thank you very very much for your effort.
There is nothing in the same (old) web address in Wuala (Dokumente: This file, folder or group is private or does not exist.) I added the captions on the description of the video.
Thank you. I also found further misspellings. I have uploaded a new pdf to the same address. Unfortunately I could not view the page with the transcript adding "w w w." At the moment I don´t know if I have done something wrong trying to view the page. Concerning the translation I ask myself if it is correct for example to say "...branches, physical and mathematical." or if one has to say "...branches, the physical and mathematical one(s)".
When you view the Wuala page and it shows "This file, ... does not exist", please check the address spelling in your browser. You might find that it has been changed automatically, having copied the address by pasting it into the browser. Just correct it and the documents are available. When I paste the address into the browser the word "Dokumente" of the address is changed, and when I correct the word, the Wuala page can be viewed.
Thank you. As I first tried to view the page having removed the spaces, this wasn´t working, but suddenly as I tried again and again this was working... But I don´t know at the moment how to manipulate the page...maybe a login is needed... I have uploaded a new version of the translation and a comment justifying the changes to the same web address
It would be nice if someone would translate this and the other segments of the interview. Perhaps better would be if someone did this AND posted a link here to their translation.
I have uploaded the translation of this part to wuala.com/PrimaLuceSounds/Dokumente/?key=4WxujVOcgfOv It is temporary available. Maybe you could review it and tell me, which mistakes there are. As is known, there are sometimes difficulties to find the appropriate expression. With regard to that translation, I had to decide if I translate "Bestätigung" as "confirmation" or "corroboration", "Satz" as "statement" or "sentence", "sprechen über" as "talk about" or "speak of/about" etc.
Almost synchronized. There are some misspellings "Fege", "philosphers" and "non-euklidian". Perhaps now you can find others. Also, two small phrases are not translated. Thanks for the job! Here the transcript: h t t p : / / d.pr/f/Iwe6
You just need to remove the spaces between letters of "h t t p : / /" There is no need add "w w w" Would be great if you could edit the transcript directly.
Thank you. As I have tried to view the page having removed the spaces this was not working, but suddenly as I tried again and again this was working... 🔥
I already compared the two pdfs and performed the modifications. :) 1 - 'a' to 'one'
2- 'mathemathics' to 'mathematics'.

8:30, "Kugeln" should be translates 'spheres' not 'balls'...
Done.
+Gilson Olegario No, balls is right. A sphere is the boundary of a ball.
devide body and mind and you will get this perpetuated bullshit!
