- Continuing on with songs from The Lion King 2 :)
Facts About: "Upendi"
- It's Swahili for "love"
- Sung by Robert Guillaume, Liz Callaway, Gene Miller, and Ladysmith Black Mambazo
- Sung by Rafiki and his animal friends, it's Rafiki's song to Kiara and Kovu about love and happiness.
- Also the equivalent to "Hakuna Matata", from the first film, as well as "I Just Can't Wait to Be King" visually.

Mufasa: This is my ship. Make it happen.
Rafiki: A'ight. To UPENDI!
Me: I just hope Simba won't be too upset. As we all know how he feels about Zira's pride as they were still loyal to Scar.
Is this Canon?
@@296801 yes
Nothin’ like getting your granddaughter hitched from beyond the grave, eh Mufasa? XD
Hehehe, Grandfather knows best after all. ;-) @@beastmaster0934
rafiki shipped these two SO HARD.
rafiki: the worlds greatest shipper
he could find me someone...lol nope xD
I nearly shit myself when I read that.
Rafiki : *NOW KISS*
Technically it was Mufasa's idea, Rafiki was just the catalyst...
Nekromeowncer When someone shows you their OTP and you end up loving that ship! ;)
Katie Blessings true
"Without a worry or a care"
Sounds a little like a Hakuna Matata
jess so true
+jess what a wonderful phrase
Just fuck it, ya know?
Nathan Mitchell hakuna matata, ain't no passin craze
because love is supposed to be like hakuna matata.
Am I one of the only people who would say that some of the songs from Lion King II: Simbas Pride, are some of the greatest ones I have heard in an piece of animation? :/
Orange Pixel Studios the first movie is so much better but damn did they did a great job with the music.
There are some really good songs in this film so I wouldn't blame you. This song has a nice beat and there is also We Are One and He Lives In You.
dont forget love will find a way
Not One Of Us is also pretty good.
@@CynderSpirit so is We Are One
Rafiki- the inventor of "shipping".
Wow, 4 likes. My personal best..... now I'm sad...
Heather Evans Make that 15 I just liked ;)
20, so did I.
57, my dear! :D

“You can beat the bush like there’s no tomorrow”. That’s the part I never understood as a child, but now I knew what Rafiki meant..
Baboons do that a lot.
Awimbawa
Down...in your panty way down...in your panty..
This is how to make a Disney sequel.
1. Keep the spirit of the original
2. Keep the timeline straight and stick to canon
3. Don’t ruin a character
real. And one of the biggest critics I've heard about the movie was Simba acting a bit too ooc with his animosity with Kovu from the get go (as opposed to TLK 1, where he only decided to banish Scar and after pushing him off the ledge peered out with no malicious intent of making sure he was dead), and that I do agree.
But for the most part, this sequel did really great by exploring unresolved conflicts from the first film (quoting the behind the scenes vid, Simba's remaining hate for Scar) and led to further development of characters both from the first film and the new ones. Also c'mon Kiara x Kovu is just too sweet to not ship
4. Create a killer female role-model for a protagonist.
@@sampeacaml9307 wouldn't say killer, but a decent protangonist is good enough, just one with a compelling arc and grounded character like any other male protag would have (/or deal with more female exclusive problems but that's asking too much of disney's writing abilities)
But no apparently we can't have that (or any good characters in general) with what we've seen in 2019 Nala, 2020 Mulan, the star wars remake and basically every Marysue they're cooking
can't wait to see Kiara 2024 act all lifeless and dull and want to be queen *skull*
Rafiki shipped them 110%
kylee Tyler technically Mufasa did
Such a delightful track from a pretty good sequel film (one of the better direct to video sequels Disney ever turned out). This song resonates with so many positive, upbeat, and even sensual emotions. It also proved that not only was the late great Robert Guillaume a great actor, but also a pretty good singer too (the fact he sang this while remaining in character is a testament to his talent). No matter the meaning of the word, Upendi still ranks as a musical gem in the Lion King's legacy.
This movie's soundtrack is just as great as the first one. But less popular lol
Yeah sadly
Agreed. I had the CD of it and loved it it was called "Return to PrideRock"
Not really. The score of the original movie is better, as are the Elton John songs.
But for the pop-like, surface level songs - yes they’re about the same and they’re both very good!
Actually, no. Even then - the original music had more meaning. Songs like I just can’t wait to be king had archetypal significance behind them. Upendi is fun and catchy but not philosophical by any stretch of the imagination and not really tied into the plot very much
Right
I had this song stuck in my head at work and realised that Upendi means love 🤣
Must admit, Robert Guillame had a good set of pipes!
Kiara & Kovu's version of "Can you feel the love tonight?" and it's actually nighttime for once.
“Love Will Find A Way” is the Simba’s Pride equivalent of “Can You Feel the Love Tonight?”
Imo (don't hate me for this) I see this as the second movies "Hakuna Matata"
It's just the really upbeat feeling of the song reminds me of that song. Plus it is also taken from a Swahilian saying
I also have had the same for the other songs
"He Lives In You" - "Circle of Life"
"We Are One" - "I just Can't wait to be king" (ik they're entirely different vibes but that was Simba's song so that's why I see it as that
"My Lullaby" - "Be Prepared"
"Upendi" - "Hakuna Matata"
"Love Will Find A Way" - "Can you feel the love tonight"
Girl no
I love that even though Liz Callaway voiced Kiara here they kept Neve Campbell's laugh.
This film deserved a full theatrical release, was better than a lot of films and it was only direct to video
"You can beat the bush like there's no tomarro
From Tanganyka to Kilimanjaro
But you'll find Upendi in wherever you aro"
#relatable
This song is so great😃😁😂😂😊☺
Henrique Carballo Aranha qqqqfccvcdsaaqqygf

🤗🤗lol
2:38 looks like kovu smelled her breath
I’m 30 next year. This was my childhood movie. I’m crying
All I have to say is Rafiki knows how to live life ❤️
I'M IN UPENDI WITH THIS SONG AND THE LION KING ❤
These lyrics are a lot more sexual than I remember.
I'm sorry... "you can beat the bush like there's no tomorrow" ?!? Jesus Rafiki!!
haven't you ever heard the saying "beat around the bush"? it means wasting time.
He went from "Rafiki" to "Rafreaky".
XD
I just got hip. my god
+Kelsey Stone I know, still it was weird. beat the bush actually means dropping hints
+TheLadyShyla interesting double meaning there lol
Everyone is talking about the bridge but I really love the first and second verse. The first one because it really paints the scene with a beautiful intro. And the lyrics delivered in the second one is just hilarious.
Rafiki ships it like FedEx
i love this song so much i could listen to it over and over again.
Tinder: Rafiki style.
Fun fact: This song was the first time I heard of Mt Kilimanjaro.
Upendi means love
I live in South Africa
+Rebecca Coetzee oh
Rebecca Coetzee Cool
I thought this song was a fever dream from my childhood.
huh
2:38 kovu is me when a playboy tries to flirt with me 😂😂😂😂😂
This brings back memories from when I was a kid. Good old days 💗
2:22 2:37 Look at Kiara's face! Poor Kovu is trapped with a crazy ape and a high lioness in a place where animals are addicted to passion fruits...
at 2:24, Kiara is like "I'm in loooove!!"
Rafiki ships people and animals so hard!!!
Upendi actually means love in Swahili
That's the point.
Dan Mellow Fellow It's actually upendo...upendi isn't correct
Upendi means "like them"
@@shizgorg google translate isnt correct
@@fulinight8381 I got the same thing from a whole seprate translator website. Actually more than one website at that.
This song makes me feel so happy...enjoyable!
Luarin루나 lion king 2 songs just hit so different
If a girl sang me this, I would fall in love. English is one extraordinary language!
Always loved this song and probley one of the few sequels that were actually good, but hey it's lion king it's gonna be good
I loved it do much too
Btw hi from the future
Am I the only one who is waiting for someone to take the do you know da way meme and put the one line that Rafiki said "You follow Rafiki he know da way"
Omg this song is just soo groovy *.*
This is coming from a musician's perspective, but I believe it's catchy because it uses the same chords and structure as a rock and roll song. Believe it or not, a song like this is related to rock and roll. It's probably because it has that "African" or "western" sound to it. And that kind of music inspired rock and roll. The first people to sing/create rock and roll were African Americans.
So if you like rock and roll, maybe that's why you find this song catchy. I know I do! LOL
Mr.Sickboy Rock and Roll is from African Americans? Really? Interesting?
Well, yes. Look up Little Richard. He was the originator of rock and roll along with Chuck Berry.
Kiara: Upendi, it means love?
Rafiki: Welcome to Upendi!
I love how closer to Neve Campbell Liz Callaway sounds here.
For some reason in "Love Will Find a Way" she is not even close and it sounds too much like Anastasia.
😭 Beautiful. Who is falling in love in 2019 here.😊
Thank you for this! Been meaning to find one without the movie's sound effects. And great quality too!
When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie... oh wait, wrong word for love.
Am I the only one who thinks that this entire song is about how "the act" is so magical. Hell even the pictures look wrong and when the girl starts singing toward the end it sounds like she is moaning
Whenever a Disney film suddenly turns into a trippy music video, I tend to suspect that what we're seeing is a metaphor for what's "actually" happening. And then all it took was a couple of comments pointing out innuendos for the whole song and accompanying animation to take on new meaning...
"Your heart will lead you there" :)
Rest in peace, Robert :
Excuse me but beat the bush like there's no tommorow *insert snickering *
It reminds me a little bit of when Sebastian is singing "Kiss the girl" in The Little Mermaid :) :)
You can beat the bush like there's no tomorrow" Well then lmao
He's a baboon, baboons love to beat the bush like there's no tomorrow, usually in front of an audience.
I wanna go there
at the end it sounds like "in you panty" and yes, i just said something everyone has said
+Sandra Henriksson Now that you mention it, it does sound like they are saying "in you panty."
+Sandra Henriksson STAHPH!!! YOU MEAKE ME UNHEARD THISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!
omg i always thought that too lol
Rip my life
Tammy Hayes lol yea when I was young I taught so lol
My friend used to sing this as "in your panties" and it fit the theme so well I've never unheard it for more than 20 years 😂
It takes the right kind of man to teach his daughter EVERYTHING for HER. Best father ever honestly, he knows it too, or he wouldn’t have been so confident in raising me.
Disney needs to come out with an album from their movies...
I always come back to this same lyric video when I wanna be happy
OMG My Beautiful Memories😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭.
lovethis song!!!
“you can beat the bush like there’s no tomorrow.”

This is a great love song That's from the second Lion King movie thanks for uploading the lyrics I couldn't remember them
Luv it
So beautiful ❤️
I cry every time I listen to this.
Same
I love this song
Great song
Love it 😃❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This song is so dark... In "Upendi"(u panty)... And the sultry scent of the lotus bloom will carry you away in upendi, where the passion fruit grows sweet... you can beat the bush like theres no tomorrow .... Then the "way down in u panty" at the end just confirms it lmao literally pronounced it u panty the last few times ... Yea my childhood is literally fukd...
THANK YOU!!! I thought I was crazy
I sweat Rafiki is on crack. I mean did you seem in the first movie he was crazy and it only got worse in the Lion King 1 1/2. And we didn't see him much in this movie. BTW lover's leap is a reference to a suicide pact made by two lover's. He is my favorite character.
"Beat the bush like there's no tomorrow." LOL!
It's true, hi from kenya! :)
cool song
this the first movie we hear rafiki sing
man i miss this song it makes me cry
The entire song from the start to finish is all sexual EVERYTHING ...

This is great just wish the track Included the characters dialogue
love this song lol
I have no idea how this got recommended; but R.I.P Mr. Guillaume.
XD This is funny!
I love this lion
@MarvelousMeister
A lion pride only has one male because if two male lions get too close, they'll tear each other apart to prove who's the alpha male. Which would explain Nuka, Kovu's nutty older brother's hatred towards him, and the desire to prove he's better than his brother.
***** Oh. Well I stand corrected. My information was from an old wiki article. So I'm sorry if its out-dated. But I would prefer less bashing...... I bruise easilly :'(
***** Actually.. that only happens if the males are related. If I'm correct, both have mating rights and defend their family and territory.
i love the lion kin soo much
2:22 Kiara looks high!
But she looks more like she's having sex
She smoked passion fruit😂😂😂
way down... in your paaantiiiies.
