- An excerpt from the February 9 episode of the Julie Andrews Show, in which Dame Angela Lansbury and Steve Lawrence were guests, along with Rich Little. In this portion of the show, where the three discuss their careers in the theatre, Dame Lansbury talks about Dear World, and the song that replaced another one which was cut. Taken form the master tapes.
Oh my darling Angela . I miss you like crazy . You were such a beauty and talent on stage tv and big screen if I only had the words to tell you how much you have inspired me to become an actress on stage I’ll always enjoy watching or listening to you
And she does that sitting down. That's talent.
Superb phrasing and vocal control. Great lyrics and poignant melody.
And THIS is why Angela was so revered in the theater....she was superb
One of my favorite songs. I can't imagine anyone singing it better.
She just gave a brilliant performance while seated! Genius!
Thank you Donna Murphy for adding another great Angela gem to Encores after Anyone Can Whistle, having also won the Tony for The King and I which Angela had done in 1978.
I had the true honor of seeing Ms Lansbury perform in person. A night I will never forget.
What an Awesome performance!!!
angela rocks this song is amazing
Marvelous performance of a great song. I love Herman's ability to have captured that French sound in his music. It's remarkable. As for the song, I'm feeling increasing rapport with it as America collapses.
I saw this when it was broadcast on tv. My sister & I were big fans of Bedknobs & Broomsticks, so we tuned in because of Angela Lansbury's appearance, even though I wouldn't ever hear anything further about the show Dear World for several decades. Song was still very nice, even if abbreviated (and they had her sing from her interview couch, unaccountably...!). Good to see this clip again after such a long time.
A wonderful talent Thank you Ms Lansbury
This is just priceless!! I’ve heard about this clip in a recent chat and it’s great! Thanks for sharing!!!
I saw Ms Lansbury in Gypsy. She was, of course, fabulous, but the most remarkable part was that she made one understand why Herbie would put up with Rose for so long.
Wow, she was amazing. That musical should have been another hit for her ; and it seems even more appropriate these days with Climate Change, deteriorating manners & politics, and the general hate & distrust everywhere.
Its hard to project like that sitting down, but I guess if you can get your voice to fill a theater 5 nights a week without a microphone attached to your ear...
Problems can't be fixed if they're not acknowledged. Maybe that was the point, idk.
amazing hearing her accent before Murder She Wrote
If the song was cut why did it appear on the cast recording, yet A Sensible Woman was not
