  • This is the Harbor Freight Tools/Pittsburgh Blind Hole Bearing Puller Set (Item 95987). It is listed on the Harbor Freight site as "5 Piece Slide Hammer And Bearing Puller Set". The regular price was about $70. But with sale price and coupon, I got it for $45. It did a good job of removing a pilot bearing from a treadmill roller. It would have probably come out easier if I could have somehow clamped the roller down.

    Awesome. Just bought one for $49.99 - 20%. Worked great on the treadmill bearings. Mine were tight. Had to hold it vertical to add gravity to the force.

    If you keep the piece in the bearing snug up to the other side of the bearing it would have come out in half as many hammering pulls.

    In some cases you can also hammer on the mandrel from the other side, it'll be easier to apply a lot of force that way than by using the slide hammer.

    • @RIchardDavidson007

      @@RJTheBikeGuy Hope not they didn't use loctite. I've got a second treadmill roller that needs another bearing removed. So I'll have a spare if this new bearing goes bad. It's seems it was really pressed in. I would recommended getting a bearing puller with a 5 lbs slide weight verses the 3 lb slide for better throw weight on the bearing. Again thanks a lot for the tip. You saved money some big doe.

    Mine had too big a range between pullers. Ended up collapsing the fingers that extended past the internal ball bearing that expands the fingers. The tool could not stay on the inner race without slipping out. Failed to function for me.. It would have helped if the fingers had s step instead of the rounded edge that catches the inner race.
    Brought it back and purchased proper industrial tools made by OTC. Yup they were 5 times the cost but they worked!

    What did you use to install the new bearing?

    • @RJTheBikeGuy
      @RJTheBikeGuy  Před 8 lety +1

      +Joe Guzman A hammer. I just softly tapped the bearing in by tapping the outer edge. Do not tap the inner ring as that can damage the bearings. You can also take a big socket that is a larger diameter then the bearing, place it with the flat side against the bearing and tap it with a hammer to drive the bearing in.

    It does not work for motorcycles bearings because of the spacers between the them. There is noting to grip as the inner bearings and spacers are one smooth continuous surface.

    • @ow-my-achilles1106
      @ow-my-achilles1106 Před 8 lety +6

      He didn't watch a CZcams vid first that showed how to use it. The collet should just "barely" get through, then should be TIGHTENED inside the bearing NOT LOOSE as was shown, then the slide hammer attached and used. I think the first collet he picked up and rejected was the correct one. He needed to remove the collet expander first. It would have been just right to push through, then expand and tighten. No sloppy fit allowed when using a pilot bearing puller, you will damage the collet AND the bearing can be yanked to pieces, leaving the outer race still inside the blind hole.

    I have used several professional sets like this and have over thirty years as a professional Maint tech. I needed to pull the bearings from my two motorcycle wheels. This kit is not worth the effort. The fixtures are not hardened to any extent. They bent and distorted before any bearing could be removed. Plus the slide hammer is much too light for the size Jess rings they would be pulling.
