    Just replaced the timing chain , cam , had heads redone , lifters , distributor , plugs , wires ,fuel pump , and a brand new edelbrock 1406 carb on my 1972 C-10. Adjusted the timing and it fired right up ! Then I went to drive it and it kept bogging down at acceleration and sputtered and wouldn’t shift right ! I went over everything so many times I was getting pissed that I didn’t do something right ! I was ready to give up ! Then I thought it can only be the carburetor. I took it off and took it back where I bought it and they gave me a new one . Installed it and it runs great ! Perfect ! So keep in mind that sometimes you just might be the lucky one who buys a defective carburetor new out of the box ! 🤷‍♂️ ps. I thought I lost my touch ! 😂

    Is this carb for a 1971 ford 302? Been thinking about getting the av2 650cfm but then did my research and discovered it too big now I’m considering this 600cfm . Still too big or can make it work ?

    Question: (asking for a buddy) What if you bought a 600 CFM Edelbrock #1406 and needed a #1403, 500 CFM but didn't want to buy new carburetor?
    The 9.5 to 1 compression, 302 motor is running really rich now. The stock 600 CFM primary Jets are .098" and the secondary are .095". Rec gas is always used and the fuel pump is mechanical.
    According to Edelbrock, one jet size equals 3-1/2 % fuel air change. I was going to recommend dropping the jets 4 sizes (15%) on both primary and secondary. Yes that's a big change but it needs a big change. When I drove the car it was loading up and backfiring in the muffler at 0-50 mph. It's so rich at idle it chokes you and the idle Jets don't do much.
    Thanks for any experienced replies. 2003

      @Nater-zq5yh Před rokem

      I did this, the booster sits a different heights between the 500 and the 600. It will mostly work but your idle and part throttle will be very wonky and inconsistent.

      @SummitRacing  Před 3 lety +1

      600 cfm might be a little big for a 305 if its stock. I would look into tuning the carburetor first and if that doesn’t work then a 500cfm might be a better choice EDL-1403

  • @Texasmule
    @Texasmule Před rokem

    Had to get a 650 for my 350 9.5 compression. Then I got a 297/305 cam and had to get a 700, still bogged out at full wide throttle so I went with a 750 dp holley brawler and that kinda solved it. Anyway this is an awsome carb but for like 40$ more you get the 650cfm with mechanical secondaries and annular boosters( the best fuel delivery jets for a carb) love these out of the box tuned carbs, tho I wish the didn't jump from 650 to 800

    I had one of those that came with a truck I bought. I must have gotten a bad one because that POS never ran totally right, and I spent hours trying to make that thing run right. And I'm pretty good with carburetors. Replaced it with a summit 600 cfm carb 6 years ago and its been great ever since.

    • @EitriBrokkr

      Then you clearly did not adjust everything right. These things run like an absolute dream when tuned right

    • @MattsRageFitGarage
      @MattsRageFitGarage Před 3 lety

      @@EitriBrokkr I adjusted that thing by the book and tweaked the adjustments as you would in the typical fashion to accommodate altitude and engine changes. Thing was a POS no matter what. I have a early 70's Holley 4548 450 CFM 4 barrel I rebuilt and modified to my
      liking and it runs all over that Edelbrock. That Edelbrock 1406 never could get the choke pull off adjustment set right to the engine's liking, you can only bend the rod so much and have the choke flat still close fully. Stumbled when you took a left hand turn every time, float levels weren't too low either. Gas tanks are spotlessly clean so not a contaminated fuel issue. Fuel pressure was set to 5 PSI with a regulator. One side of the engine ran richer than the other due to the primary drivers side jet being countersunk deeper than the other primary jet. One of the power pistons seemed to hang up occasionally on a rough edge in the bore left from sloppy machining. Yeah, this one wasn't ever going to "run like a dream" no matter how much you tried.

    • @EitriBrokkr
      @EitriBrokkr Před 3 lety

      @@MattsRageFitGarage so you had problems with a single used carb of unknown origin and you are going to use that as an example of why they suck? The edelbrock 1406 is a modern replica of a carter 9000 AFB. They go all the way back to 1957. Every single American car manufacturer used AFB's on everything from corvettes to the hemi's. Either you were too dumb to get it tuned correctly, Or you were too dumb (and cheap) to recognize you bought a used, probably messed up, POS and replace it. You entire story is completely irrelevant to the functionality of this design. Then again you go out of your way to own 80's ford trucks so I'm sure its a waste of my time discussing the finer points of carburator design with someone of that cognitive function.

    • @MattsRageFitGarage
      @MattsRageFitGarage Před 3 lety

      @@EitriBrokkr Well, you are quite the asshole now aren't you? I bought the truck with the carburetor installed. 3 months old and less than 1000 miles. Even had the receipt and the box. As far as owning 80's ford trucks this is the only truck I have ever owned, it cost me $900 10 years ago out of a grocery store parking lot and it does everything I want it to. It hauls stuff that needs hauled. It's paid for, and the insurance is dirt cheap. It's really not my favorite truck in the world but I can't find anything better for what I have into it to replace it with. I have worked on a lot of carburetors, several of AFB's, and really not a fan of them. Most worked better than the one I wound up with which was probably a lemon. I am done trying to explain myself to you. You are just like my deceased mom, in one ear and out the other and will argue to the death over something so stupid. Please, stop harassing me over an overpriced carburetor that's not even made by Edelbrock. I am WELL aware of their history and design. I have enough shit to deal with.
