- This educational video explains that the placenta is a fetal organ and how aging of the placenta may lead to death of an otherwise healthy fetus. This aging process is complex and not affected by the behaviour of the mother.
Based on research conducted by Distinguished Laureate Professor, Roger Smith AM and his team from the Mothers and Babies Research Centre at HMRI, the video seeks to address the feelings of guilt often experienced by mothers after stillbirth.
Researchers and artists from the Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) and the University of Newcastle have collaborated to create a tool to help women who have experienced stillbirth. - Krátké a kreslené filmy

My wife told me about stillborn babies a two weeks ago. I didn’t think it’ll happen to her. One day She was having contractions and told me while I was at work. Got off work early to take her to appointment. I thought today was the day she gave birth. Only to find out that the heartbeat couldn’t be found. Then the took the ultrasound machine and she saw the doctors face and she knew right then the baby was gone. I’m actually in the hospital right now for her to give birth to a lifeless baby and I came across this video wondering how this would happen.

I lost two babies to still birth back in the early 70s there didn't seem to be any empathy at that time for women like me. I was kept on a ward full of happy mothers with their babies. I was even treated by one nurse who left me in a dark room alone in full labour right up until I was ready to give birth. My husband wasn't allowed to stay with me. Nurses didn't talk to me because they didn't know what to say. I was 18 /19 years old. Ten years later did go on to have a beautiful baby girl. I am so glad that women who have to suffer a still birth are now treated with care and respect. My two personal experiences were just horrific on so many levels.

Nothing was better here. I was alone when I found out had to drive myself home. Then delivered with the same ward of happy families with visitors. Everyone treated me weird and only one nurse hugged me and cried after delivery. It doesn't take much to have empathy. I will never forget how they treated me.... and I still have no idea why she passed 2 weeks before her due date. I will forever be alone and have no children. It still hurts me the same. I don't know how I'm still here. I will say I never understood a mother's love until then. Unconditional love.

Coming here after learning my brother and sister-in-law have a stillbirth after 28 weeks of pregnancy. They were so close to being able to see their daughter and hold her. Knowing that they still have to deliver their daughter, with no comfort in being able to see their daughter alive at the end of the process, is just too much.

My son was stillborn and was severely UIGR. It was all placenta and a part mthfr. I pray nobody experiences this. I was only 19. We have got to figure out what's going on. Every mama deserves hearing their baby cry, and to watch their baby grow up.

I'm 39 years old and a male. I only learned of what a stillborn baby was a few years ago through a show I watched. I couldn't believe such a thing could happen.
I think about this often. I am not sure what led me here tonight, but thank you God and thank you whomever made this video.
This happened to my family. Weeks before the birth I was excited to have a new brother. It’s only after my parents got home I was ttold. I could of had a brother. Luckily they had another baby and this time he survived and every day I am so grateful for my baby brother.
I’ve lost my daughter around 27 weeks in 2021 because I had unexplained preterm labour… This year, July 7th, once again, I received bad news. I’m currently 28weeks with a baby boy but he doesn’t show any heart beat or kicks last Friday. So devastated. This video really enlightened me of what’s actually happening and somehow, I can actually accept what has happened. I pray that all expecting mothers to have a full term healthy baby. My little sister and her partner just lost her baby at 34 weeks, it was their first child. We are all trying to understand how this could have happened but nothing seems like the right answer. I don’t know how to help them aside from just being available to them in anyway possible..I just hope that they can lift each other through this grief.

I sure hope that they do find a way to prevent stillbirth. I lost my baby and the pain is unbearable. Not having any answers is the worst part. If I had something or someone to blame I might be able to focus my grief or anger towards that. But having no answers just makes me feel lost sometimes.

We lost one of our twins yesterday, she was super healthy and well-grown and was breathing really well during our last check-up, but when we met the doctor heart rate was not there we couldn't believe what unfolded in front of us. I'm the dad and I would do anything to keep the baby but we couldn't save her. She was 32 weeks old.
Lost my baby boy at 32weeks too. This was just few weeks back. It's so horrific. Baby movement one day and nothing the next.

This happened to us on the 8th August 1997. She would be 26 now. The pain never leaves me, the acuteness just lessens a bit over time, but most mothers never fully get over this awful loss. Baby moving one day, then nothing the next, all a terrible blur still. My poor 6 yr old son, home alone with me as hubby was working afternoon shift as a prison officer. My little man has to run to our neighbour, sobbing himself too, when she started to come out at home. He ran and got our teacher neighbour who had some first aid training. She called the ambulance, and my poor husband who had left work, followed the ambulance up the highway with its lights and siren on. Our boy never forgave God for taking her, he wanted a sibling so badly. Oh this is still so painful.

There should be a blood test that can test for the placenta aging to quickly. Baby deliver early!
This is the goal. By understanding how it occurs the next step will be further research to prevent it from happening.

My mom’s friend, her daughter had a stillborn boy born at 20 weeks. She had to do the natural birth at 20 weeks pregnant and she was devastated by the loss, she didn’t want to see the baby. That made me very sad

Doctors and researchers are working to discover why a pregnancy does not succeed: why stillbirths occur. Though it is devastating to the mother, there are things we can learn, for future mothers to be. And from the worst, can come some good.
And we wish, a day will come when there will be no stillborn incidents. It leaves a lifetime scar in one’s life.
I hope this don’t have to happen to anyone.
What causes placenta to age, how can you prevent it?
I lost my baby boy 3 month ago, during labor at 40weeks.. the last time I felt his movements, hi was moving extremly, like never before and suddenly stopped...I think he lost the supply of nutrients, ... The post-mortem showed nothing wrong... i am scared because I have no reason of why this happened and dont know how to prevent this in the next pregnancy...

In my case, the blood vessels in the placenta were too small. The placenta was doing fine for the entire pregnancy, but suddenly, just shy of 36 weeks, it gave out.
The specialists have told me that it's likely to happen again with future pregnancies. So the plan is for me to take baby aspirin when trying to conceive & for the whole pregnancy. And to get the baby out early next time (34 weeks).
Have a talk to your doctor about making a plan for the next pregnancy. I hope they will agree to deliver a bit earlier.

There is a couple Stefanie and Kameron, it happened to their baby girl, Stefanie text, that one day her babies movements were extreme, she, and I believe many others, didn’t/don’t know that this is a warning sign and the mom should go to the hospital immediately, you might look up Stefanie,,,she is expecting her second baby

There should be some way to text the placenta to avoid the aging issue. Now it's more the norm to not go past 40 weeks or past your due date maybe because if the aging factor. There also should be a way to find out if the cord is around the baby's neck so that a c-section can be done and not a vaginal delivery which could kill the baby. My son almost died because of that. His apgar score was 2/7.
I had a stillbirth about 2mths ago which is 22wks. I don't know what to do my self when i was told your baby is absent I nearly collapse I can't even stand on my legs. A lot of pains and tears I can't sleep.

Lost my baby just 3weeks ago..at just 1week away from due date. Am still in so much pain!! Just a week before I had contractions.. we'd been to our regular checkups. And saw baby. She was perfectly fine. And heartbeat strong! A week later I get back with contractions and the Dr can't find my baby's heartbeat. 😢 I can still hear her say that "ag am very sorry, I can't find baby's heartbeat" to date.. my heart! My very first Baby.. am left with both a Broken heart and a Million Questions! 😭 Waiting for lab results for some answers and 'closure'.
I’m sorry this has happened to you!! I had a similar experience a week ago, I gave birth and delivered my baby at 36 weeks. Doctors were unable to find his heartbeat after experiencing contractions and bleeding. Praying for you and your family!! It isn’t easy!! 🤍

@@jedidoo5579 I had a placental abruption and one was a cord accident and then 5 other losses between the first and second trimester and later got diagnosed with a clotting disorder and went on blood thinners and have 5 healthy children now. I’m so sorry. It’s really unlikely to have it happen again. It’s so unfair. Do you have answers yet?

I've had a near death experience and I believe stillborn babies occur because the soul that was destined for that body was kept from it thru either Devine intervention or because someone was either recessetated or revived somewhere hospital or wherever they may have been when they passed were all reborn until we learn enough and learn to love enough to be welcome in heaven deaths never the end just a move forward or sometimes backwards on life's journey
