    Just got my large parcel post big mail box on my big daddy post hit by a driver. Yep mail box was destroyed but minimal damage to big daddy post. Can say there was probably more damage to hit and run drivers truck. My damage was $$ thinking theirs was $$$$ exactly why I had it built!😂

      Thanks for watching! I'm glad the post held up so well. We had a similar hit-and-run event with ours and about the same results. I picked up a lot more car parts in my yard than mailbox parts!

    I just finished making this mailbox post for my extra-large mailbox and used your dimensions and instructions. Turned out GREAT! I didn't realize how heavy a 93" 6x6 would be :-)... so I enlisted the help of my grandson to install the post. He did a great job.

    Hay, Dennis, I found a mailbox matching the size to your mailbox, I found it in our local hard ware store and right at $62 /24"×15"×11",
    I plan on adding some extra boards for reinforcements, yeah, mailboxes can be made to look nice, but you know as well as I do, government regulation will only allow us to build it only so heavy, I'm sure we all have each other's back on these mailbox ideas, carry on fort Knox 😎🇺🇸👍

    Thanks so much for your time and effort on this instructional video. I followed your lead and am quite happy with the results. My equipment was a bit more crude, and as others have posted, a 6 x 6 is no joke. Ultimately the end result was well worth the effort. I did use your link for the purchase of the mail box so I hope it helped. Happy Easter!

      Thanks for watching, Barbara! That's really why I opted to build a post with 6x6 instead of 4x4 like most posts. I'm in a rural area though, so these mailboxes are common to see.

    • @barbaraferron7994
      @barbaraferron7994 Před rokem +1

      @@dwcoffey The shipping box was way bigger than the actual mailbox which was still pretty huge but when it was mounted on the post 4/4 plastic with a sand weighted base, it looked okay and I noticed others in my rural town had boxes as large.

    How far should the mailbox be from the curb/road? Too close and it may get hit by cars, too far and it is an arm stretcher for the mailman

    • @dwcoffey
      @dwcoffey  Před 3 lety +2

      Thanks for watching! In the US, USPS wants the front of the mailbox to be set back 6-8 inches from the edge of the road or the curb.

    I currently have a standard mailbox and I too receive packages. Since I moved here to S.C. my mail carriers think the box is large enough to shove boxes inside. It isn't. When I first moved here the mail carrier shoved an Amazon box in my mailbox that barely fit and it broke off my flag. I had a hard time pulling the box out and almost fell over backward doing it.
    This man would do this all the time because he was fat and lazy. After he retired his replacement or replacements did the same thing. I can't tell you how many times I have complained to the Post Office about this and they continue doing it to this day.
    Not only this but EVERY mail carrier will not close the mailbox door. I get so angry about this. The mailbox is plastic and to close the door you have to make sure it's closed or it won't close.
    Today I ordered a brand new steel mailbox and it's listed as an Architectural mailbox 6300B-10 Oasis locking mailbox extra large. The mail carrier won't be able to shove boxes in this mailbox; only letters and maybe thin padded envelopes. She will have to get her lazy butt out of that mail truck and bring my packages to my front porch. I won't have to worry about having any mail stolen. I haven't had any stolen that I am aware of but for sure none will get stolen when I install this new box.
    I don't need a new post, just the box. I hope it fits.
    Thank you for your video. It was very helpful!

    Hello SIR , not gonna worry about names right now, but I'm gonna put it this way, l absolutely love the size of your mail box, I'd like to know where did you find that size mail box, that's exactly what I want, I've just recently been studying mailbox post and different videos, and you just made first place, the winner at 1st place design, with your mailbox being 12" wide, I plan on using the biggest possible post I can get away with, but not only am I gonna use the cross base for the box ,itself, I think I'm gonna use a piece the very same size over the top, and I wasn't sure about the regulations about postal residency rules, and apparently there are mailbox spec's that you have abide by, now I've got it, I absolutely love that monster mailbox, perfect ! ! !, and I also plan on putting plywood pieces on the inside and outside, just to match the contour of the mailbox, I'm not crazy about only being allowed to be only 2ft in the ground, ,but I have another idea to cover the given back up with the security of the mailbox itself, if you have a tree, a flowered Bush in your lawn/yard, or a handy security night post ,close by handy, a lot of deer hunters use a lot of trail cameras, and some of them use motion detection,,and you can also use a high quality security camera mounted somewhere close by, and if it does get hit , you have video proof, and I just decided the penalty will be ,repair cost plus fine cost, that would give them a reason to bitch about it for a while, stories are always drifting around, creativity of the mind never stops, my door is always open, wayneeden95@gmail.com

    Hello, I live in Belgium and I would like to build the same thing but I do not know the dimensions of:
    the height of the mailbox from the ground
    Thank you
    Very good work anyway

    • @dwcoffey
      @dwcoffey  Před 4 lety

      Thank you for watching!! In the US, the Postal Service requires the mailbox to be between 41 and 45 inches above the road surface . So this would put the bottom of the mailbox between 104cm and 114cm above the road. I'm not sure what the Belgian Postal Service requires, I'm sorry.
