    Nice job Mike,I got the spool gun for the omnipro 220,welded up a little tool box out of 1/4" alum diamond plate.Worked real good,but I do remember tweaking the settings a little.Important for your viewers to know 2 things, both of what looks like you did.#1 try to use a push angle to keep that argon ahead of the puddle,and #2 aluminum mig is a spray vs short circuit process,so keep a longer stickout,1/2"-3/4" keep em coming,they are great vids!

    • @Mikefestiva
      @Mikefestiva  Před 5 lety

      Thanks for commenting Jeffrey! Definitely good points to mention. I did posted that in the text info along side the video when I was welding, that I ran 1/2” stick out, but maybe I should have talked a little bit about that and why to run 1/2” to 3/4”. I also should have mentioned that there’s a lot of good info on Welding tips and tricks channel.
      I also noticed on my Omnipro that I had to play around with the settings to get it a bit more dialed in, at the time I figured it could have been because of the fact that I adapted a Miller spool gun to it rather than the stock Vulcan, but now I realize most welders just weld a bit hot on the stock aluminum charts. Take care!

    Great video Mike. You really give us weekend warriors the info we need to make an informed buying decision. Harbor Freight has really stepped up their game with this line of welders, especially over their basic Chicago electric brand. You always show the machine in action which is much better than just talking about it for 20 minutes. Thanks!

    Thanks Mike for this helpful review. I was scoping out the HF spool gun, and instead I'm pulling the trigger from your link. I was not excited at all about the prospect of having to unspool and disconnect the wire feed for the standard steel welding setup on my Titanium welder, so your explanation on how that isn't necessary with this model changed my mind. Much more convenient and I can spend more time about how to make my project AWESOME instead of how to avoid tangling up the spool wire inside the machine. Looking forward to learning and practicing.

Have fun. Take care. Doug

      I have a slightly older version of the Klutch 220si welder. It came with the same spool gun. The welder is very similar to this titanium 200 model although without the led displays. I believe they're made in the same factory based on the similarities. It's been a very good machine. And it's actually pretty well made if you look inside.

      Yes it’s a bit more then the Spool gun Harbor Freight sells now for it. Keep in mind they released the Titanium line and didn’t release the spool gun till a year after. The HF model sells for $169 so it’s a bit more affordable, but you need to pull off your MIG lead and coil up your MIG wire to connect the spool gun to it. Take care

    Dang, I wish you had done this about 2 months ago. I bought the Titanium (off your Titanium vs Vulcan video) first. I was told by the store at the time that the Vulcan spool gun worked with the Titanium, which it does not! I had to order both over the phone and have them shipped to the house because the store is an hour away. So, I returned the Titanium and bought the Vulcan OP220 to go with my spool gun (the Vulcan was actually 10% off at the time). I had emailed HF and they said it wouldn't be until late summer or fall before the Titanium spool gun would be coming out. I didn't want to wait. Had I known that another brand gun would work on the Titanium, I would have kept it...I'm pleased with the Omnipro and spool gun, but I do have to pull the mig gun and wire to hook up the spool gun.

      go ahead and just pull the trigger and get it, i was so back and forth on the Titanium or spending more on a Miller 211, i went with the Titanium 170 mostly because of size and weight and it'll easily do 3/8" steel with a bevel; i use $1500-$4500 Miller machines daily and im very impressed with how good that $550 (with -$50 coupon & +2yr warranty) Titanium welds.

    Some time ago I saw a vid of you using a Hynade Mig (flux only I believe). I bought the Hynade 175SG (spool compat, removable euro plug) and they were out of stock on Hynade's spool gun, so I picked up a cheapo PreAsion for $100 and it actually works quite well. A bit flimsy but ok for home shop work, used it to reassemble an ancient 17ft Grumman canoe, and throws down a nice weld. (Now I'm on the hunt for a Suzuki Carry) Learned a lot from your videos. Thanks!

      I actually just installed a rear locking Diff into mine finally! It’s really good off road now. If you plan on doing a lot of technical rough off-road I definitely would recommend a locking rear Diff model. PS all 4x4 Suzuki’s have (Axle lock) that is basically push on the fly 4wd you want the extra (Diff lock ) button ( this locks the rear diff )as well as the axle lock button on the dash 🙂👍

    Oh yeaaa that 2nd bead looks like something I might have done. I do kid! I've only tried a spool gun once at the local Miller welding show where they had any kind of welding setup to try . I did lay down some nice beads with it before I had to let the next guy try it. Also a propylene torch that would cut through a 5 inch steel pin. They had a little test going on with that 5 inch pin to see who could cut a slice off against a time limit. I came close to winning it but it was my 1st time using a Propylene torch and I think I timed out with like 3/8's of it left. That's been some years ago man!
    I love this Titanium 200 though with the spool gun. I like that it has old school volts and wire speed with a simple digital readout. Maybe less likely to fail?

    I bought the 140 multiprocessor. Which works really well. The only problem is with aluminum and stainless. You have to short arc transfer with it for bigger wire and thicker materials. Which is fine I guess. A trimix with 90 argon, 8 he and 2 co2 works wonders. Normally tris have 90 he and 8 argon. But for me this works amazing cuz the helium helps hear the puddle a bit more. Been debating on trying out the 78argon, 20 helium and 2 co2. A bit more heat. Then you can run ur volts lower and wire speed same or run same heat but with slower wire speed and run a bit quicker for small welds. Heliarc was used for alot of years and still used to this day. But if you used 80argon and 20 helium. It will help wet out the toes of ur welds more and make em flatter. And you'll love it as it can tig weld anything too cuz it's non interactive gasses

    • @Mikefestiva
      @Mikefestiva  Před 5 lety

      Dude that’s great to hear you also make videos! I will definitely go check them out!
      I also have been working on refining the overall length of my videos, the thing that’s helped me out is I will work on trying to only keep what is needed to tell the story and get the point across, and cut the rest out of the video, then after that I will sometimes show the video to my girlfriend ( she doesn’t really understand or know much about what’s going on in my videos) and she has no problem telling me that a part seems to drag on, or I don’t think you need that shot in there, this gives me a different persons perspective on how my video will be viewed from others that may come across it, this also shows me where some people may get tired of watching it and click off. I tend to not ever go over 20 minutes on a big video and if it’s a more simple project with less facts I’m trying to convey to others then I will shoot for 10 minutes or less, I also feel people are more likely to watch a 10 minute video on there lunch break rather then something longer. Sorry for going on but this is definitely something that I have been noticing and working on over the years. Dude 800 is good for the first year, I have been posting for about 4 years now and it’s been a slow build with subscribers, but in the last 5 months I have gained 3500 so it’s gaining momentum, the only real downside of growing a channel is the TROLLS, they suck, I only get a small percentage but they definitely make me less interested in posting videos. Yes I plan on doing some aluminum welding with the spool gun in the near future on some motorcycle parts, I also just picked up the Vulcan PROTIG 200 so I’m learning how to TIG weld aluminum as well so there will be some videos posted on that too. Take care and I definitely will check out your channel :)

    Great video. I’m now very interested in buying a HF titanium 170 or 200 and either their new titanium spool gun or this one here. I LOVE the fact that you don’t have to undo the steel wire and cable with your set up. I think the HF titanium spool gun requires the main lead to be undone and their spool gun to be inserted so your set up might be the better way to go for going back and forth. I had contacted them after hearing that they were using my 125 video on there page and after talking about welder stuff they sent me the Titanium plasma 45 to try out about 8 months ago 👍 and they just sent me the new ProTig 205 to run. Ps keep in mind a have paid out of pocket for all my other welders for my review videos, ProTig 200, Omnipro 220,Titanium 200, titanium 125 and the Amico cts160 so I definitely have invested a lot into trying out these welders over the years. Take care and thanks for checking out my channel!

      Also, have you tried using the spool gun on 110v? I'd like to find out what the realistic thickness is at 110v. I will be using mines soon to repair cracks on an aluminum boat, which is pretty thin.

    • @bobbyisking
      @bobbyisking Před 5 lety +1

      It was a gr8 deal at $899. And two weeks after I purchased it, the priced dropped to $869. I requested and got the $30 refund.

      I also bought a dinse connector and put it in place of the ring terminal. The Titanium welders used the smaller 10-25 dinse while the Klutch uses the 35-70 dinse. Ask me how I know, lol.

      Conventional sense says no but only because the TIG isn't using AC. I'm not sure what makes the Spool gun able to do it but apparently it makes it does make it possible.

    0400! Get to bed man! Love your content. This vid was extra interesting as al welding is new to me and want to go in that direction. The hook up procedure was very handy. You are right. HF should have replied to you. You have really showed off the V and T machines for them. But I do like that they sampled a T plasma cutter for you to show us what is coming. They chose well. Sleep well good prince of the arc flame!

      Thanks for checking out my video and commenting 🙂 it’s definitely nice to have aluminum welding capabilities in your shop.
      I just found out recently that HF will finally be selling the spool gun sometime early 2020.
      When you get a spool gun just follow the basic things I point out in this video and practice on some scraps before you tackle your first project, you will realize that welding Aluminum is not that hard it just takes a little adjustment to what you’re use to, mainly the travel speed feels to be a bit fast paced. Leave about 1/2” wire stick out past your tip and you should be good 🙂 take care

    Cool, I was not so much interested in the spool gun though that was interesting, but wanted to see more of the 200 welder, I am thinking do I want to spend the extra money on a machine that will do more than I probably need it to do in hopes I may use it in the future verses buying the 125 which is probably 95 % of all I will ever need. Thanks

    I would have like to have seen the under side of the weld leaves peaces to see your heat affected zone if it had a light tan line is ok if it. Burnt through it would look bubbled just curious to compare it to tig because it did look good

    • @Mikefestiva
      @Mikefestiva  Před 5 lety

      The welds did not burn and melt though the back side. I feel the settings were the best I could possibly get with the spool gun, i tried out a lot of tests off camera and that was a big part of dialing it in, making sure it was not melting through the back of the plate. I have just started welding with my AC TIG and I have to say it’s a hell of a lot easier to lay nice looking welds with the TIG on aluminum then it is for me to lay them with a spool gun, the biggest problem with the spool gun is the travel speed, it’s really fast, if you slow down much it really effects the heat transfer to the weld. TIG is a much more relaxing pace to weld with. Take care
